Daybreak in Dixie

Daybreak in Dixie:  Poems of the Confederacy by Linda Lee. Privately published, 2019.

For those of us who value the history of our Southern people, these are the worst of times.  Public discourse is pervaded by a Cultural Marxist hysteria that wants what we love to be dead, forever.  I rightly use the term Marxist because the campaign against us, and indeed our entire air, reflects a typical Communist  regime, lacking only the full development of a police state.  History has been abolished except in a form that is altered and twisted to fit a party line, a la Orwell.  Only one opinion is allowed.   Meaningless ideological abstractions like “white privilege” replace facts.

Yet we should be comforted.  What is true and noble cannot be entirely extinguished, and reminders of our heritage,  like this wonderful collection of new poems by the Florida writer Linda Lee, continue to flower among the dead landscape of contemporary culture.  The poet delivers   a wonderful and fresh contemplation of the heroism, sacrifice, and suffering of our people, fighters and civilians both, in their struggle against a brutal invader.

For one example, among many, she reflects on the destruction of “Silent Sam” at the University of North Carolina, a monument to the University’s Confederate soldiers.  “The Sin of Silence”:

He watched them spray paint evil words
With minds filled up with hate.
He watched as crowds be began to curse,
He felt them pull him down,
He felt the crushing of their feet
By others standing ‘round.
Sam wondered why the cops stood by,
No lifting of their hand,
Would no one there protect him now,
Back home on Southron land?
Our history now is being lost
By those we’ve never known
And those that went before us now
Are never welcome home.
Somewhere along the path of time
Some things have gone awry
And they expect us to stand down
And watch our Southland die.

We are dealing with people who have no heritage and  don’t even know what is meant by the term.  They merely want to destroy what others love—a despicable motive.

Florida patriot Connie Chastain writes in a Foreword:  “Most people today cannot conceptualize the depth of personal and regional trauma that the war and its aftermath poured out upon the South like a fiery lava flow. . . . The regional and personal trauma of our ancestors is a part of our collective memory. . . .”    Now they want to remove all Confederate memory from the battlefields, making the battlefields as meaningless as Lenin’s corpse.   The loss of our collective memory is literally the destruction of America as well as of the South.

Cuban Refugee Warns Americans Have Already ‘Swallowed’ Communism’s ‘Poison Pill’: “Not only have they swallowed it, they digested it.”

U.S. President Donald Trump, right, speaks while Senator Marco Rubio, a Republican from Florida, left, and Maximo Alvarez, president of Sunshine Gasoline Distributors, listen during a roundtable discussion on tax cuts for Florida small businesses in Hialeah, Florida, U.S., on Monday, April 16, 2018. Trump accused China and Russia of devaluing their currencies, breaking from his own Treasury chief's view that no major trading partners are currency manipulators.

A refugee who fled communist Cuba warned during a Wednesday interview that he believes many Americans have already swallowed the “poison pill” of communism.

Maximo Alvarez, who fled to the United States from Cuba under Operation Peter Pan in 1961, said on Wednesday’s episode of the podcast “The Truth with Lisa Boothe” that communism has successfully infiltrated American culture and institutions.

[Photos] Rare Aerial Photos Depict the Urban Contours of Saigon in 1950

Photos] Saigon's 1955 Cityscapes From Above - Saigoneer

In the French photo book titled Indochine – Couverture. Saigon-Cholon – Photographie Aerienne 1950, a fascinating set of aerial images showcases the urban layout of Saigon in 1950.

In the middle of the 20th century, Saigon wasn’t the massive metropolis it is today, reaching in all directions with its suburban peripherals. Back then, the city was made up of the administrative cerebrum in District 1 and 3, and the bustling trade hub of Cho Lon in District 5 and 6. The rest of the districts as we know now used to be either less-developed transition zones or even straight-up wilderness.

Awakening to woke: The mainstreaming of Marxism is meeting resistance from anti-woke warriors, but more people must lose their fear and fight back.

 Via David

Here in California, the woke train rolls merrily along.

If AB 101 passes in its current version, a one-semester high school course in ethnic studies will be mandated starting in the 2029–2030 school year. Each school district will get to choose course content, and those with a Marxist agenda are waiting to pounce. Many wokesters are advocating for use of the “Equitable Math” toolkit. This blatantly political program has little to do with math, but rather wants to use the subject to destroy “white supremacy,” a phrase that shows up 43 times. It states that the “concept of mathematics being purely objective is unequivocally false, and teaching it is even much less so. Upholding the idea that there are always right and wrong answers perpetuate objectivity as well as fear of open conflict.”

In downtown Lincolnton, two blocks from Main Street, in a building that once housed the local Free Masons, a sharp secret was hidden in plain sight.

When Dr. Ashley Oliphant and her mother, Beth Yarbrough, asked to see an old sword that used to hang on a wall, they unlocked a mystery two centuries in the making.

“The iron scabbard of that sword did have an inscription on it,” said Oliphant, a college professor at Pfeiffer University.
