"Wisconsin budget surplus projected to grow to $484 million."

Via Daily Timewaster

Suck it up liberals.  How sweet it is.:)

Wisconsin's budget picture brightened Thursday, with new estimates that show a surplus will grow to $484 million, giving Republicans and Gov. Scott Walker even more room to pursue their tax cutting agenda.

The estimate from the nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau was nearly $137 million better than one Walker's administration released in November. The numbers will be used by Walker as he puts the final touches on his two-year spending plan, which he's set to unveil on Feb. 20.

While the bottom line for the current fiscal year that ends June 30 showed improvement, the report projected that tax collections through June 30, 2015, will actually be $259 million less than what Walker's administration predicted. The bulk of that, $219 million, is due primarily to the fact that Walker assumed in November that Congress would restore the estate tax, the Fiscal Bureau said in its report. That did not happen as part of the deal to avert the so-called fiscal cliff.

Still, Walker and Republican legislative leaders touted the positive news in the report about the larger surplus for this fiscal year.

In 2011, Walker took office facing a roughly $3 billion budget shortfall and attacked the problem with deep cuts to education, local governments and other programs. He also forced public workers to pay more for health insurance and pension benefits, and effectively ended workers' collective bargaining rights, leading to an unsuccessful attempt to recall him last year.

NC: Letter to the Citizenry from Sheriff Jerry Jones

 Sheriff Jerry Jones

Citizens of Franklin County North Carolina,

As most of you are aware I attended a meeting at Fargo’s Restaurant in Zebulon some weeks back. The purpose of the meeting was simple, to provide clarification to the citizenry as to where your Sheriffs stand with regards to your 2nd Amendment Rights to Keep and Bear Arms. Particular interest was given to the possibility of any new Federal Laws and/or restrictions and how each Sheriff would react should such measures be taken. Since that community meeting I have received countless emails and letters from concerned citizens within Franklin County. In response to these concerns please allow me, as the Sheriff of Franklin County, to make the following declarations.

As the Sheriff of Franklin County North Carolina I have sworn an oath, as have the men and women who serve under me, to “Support and maintain the Constitution and laws of the United States, and the Constitution and laws of North Carolina not inconsistent therewith”. When I swore to this oath it was not intended on my part to be merely ceremonious in nature. Those words have meaning. They represent the very basis of what makes our society different from so many others worldwide. We have established a form of Government which derives its powers from the governed, as is clearly stated in our Constitution. Our founding fathers recognized that each of us is born equally into this world with certain rights. These rights were put to paper in clear and concise wording for all to understand, even future generations.

The 2nd Amendment states “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Our founding father’s words still hold true today. However there are some who would seek to “adjust” the meaning of this amendment and its purpose. The 2nd Amendment was not intended to secure the citizenry the right to hunt wild game; it was intended to assure the continuation of a Free State. Having that in mind I respectfully make the following statement.

“As the Sheriff of Franklin County North Carolina I, Jerry W Jones, will not participate in, nor enforce, any Unconstitutional Edicts, Orders or Laws handed down by any Government Body. As the highest ranking law enforcement officer within my jurisdiction I feel as though it is my duty to make this statement clear. No Law Abiding Citizen of Franklin County shall have their Constitutional Rights infringed upon. I have sworn an oath attesting to this statement and it will be honored at all times. I thank each and every one of you for your time and continued support of the Office of Sheriff.”

Sheriff Jerry W. Jones

Obama To Shut Down Southern Air Defense Systems

As the U.S. government continues to expand surveillance and monitoring systems to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars within the borders of the United States, a recent announcement regarding the country’s southern air defense systems is raising eyebrows.

Our southern border is, in part, protected by the Tethered Aerostat Radar System (TARS), which utilizes moored balloons hovering at about 15,000 feet to identify low flying aircraft and missiles that may penetrate the border and cross into U.S. airspace.

The system is utilized by the U.S. Air Force, North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD),  and U.S. Customs and Border Protection for a number of missions including detection of drug smuggling and preservation of the air sovereignty of the continental United States.

According to Exelis Systems Corporation, the company that built and jointly maintains TARS with the U.S. Air Force, the government has ordered a complete shutdown of Aerostat flight operations:
The government also indicated its intent that aerostat flight operations will cease on March 15, 2013, and that the remainder of the fiscal year will be used to deflate aerostats, disposition equipment, and prepare sites for permanent closure. We are currently reviewing all the details of the RfP and evaluating the possible impacts on the program and our workforce. We continue to communicate with the government on this matter, and we will have more information in the coming days and weeks.
An Exelis employee close to the TARS project had this to say about the closure of the sites:

 Audit the Fed!
Dear Friend of Liberty,

Our fragile economy is speeding toward a collision with economic ruin - and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke has jammed his foot down on the gas pedal.

With our nation now over $16.4 TRILLION in debt, it's never been more important the Federal Reserve's abuses are exposed to the American people once and for all.

That's why the American people must force Congress to Audit the out-of-control Federal Reserve.

So please sign your Audit the Fed petition to Campaign for Liberty to make your voice clearly heard on this vital issue.

Today was haircut day and I told Carolyn I wanted it very short.  She pointed to a picture stuck in the mirror and said, "Like that?"  Precisely, I responded and took it to my favorite Russian barber, Reuben, who produced the picture on the right.  It works for me.

Time does march on.  I, however, toddle.

“Sir, much has been said about dying in the last ditch.

 General [Thomas L.] Clingman
“After the battle of Bentonville, General [Joseph E.] Johnston retired his army to Smithfield, where he remained confronting [the enemy] for three weeks. While here General Johnston held a review 6 April, at which many ladies and civilians of Raleigh, including Governor Vance and officers of the State and Confederate Government were present. The army presented a fine appearance and the men were in excellent spirits.

There were in this army remnants of commands who under Albert Sidney Johnston won the first day’s battle of Shiloh, and nearly annihilated Grant’s army.  Men who under Bragg, had won the battles of Murfreesboro and Chickamauga, and under Johnston had confronted Sherman from Dalton to Atlanta; the men who under Hood, had been in the disastrous battle of Franklin; who had followed [Generals Nathan Bedford] Forrest and [Joe] Wheeler and [Wade] Hampton and had successfully defended Fort Sumter for four years against the combined land and sea forces of the United States, and the brigades of [General Robert F.] Hoke’s Division, who had won endearing renown in the Army of Northern Virginia.

Here also were assembled those regiments of Junior Reserves, who under Colonels Hinsdale, Anderson, Broadfoot and Walter Clark emulated the heroism of their veteran comrades, and who on the battlefields of Kinston and Bentonville had shown they were of the same [mettle] as their sires and deserving of imperishable record in the history of their country.

It was a splendid body of American soldiers; survivors of a hundred battlefields; and as they marched proudly in review before their General, they were conscious of duty nobly done and nerved for any future service that might be required of them in defence of their country.

General [Thomas L.] Clingman visited his brigade while in camp at Smithfield, and though on crutches, asked of General Johnston the honor of commanding the rear guard.  This was denied him, as he was physically unable to perform such duty, and he addressed the Southern commander as follows:

“Sir, much has been said about dying in the last ditch. You have left with you here thirty thousand of as brave men as the sun ever shone upon. Let us take our stand here and fight the two armies of Grant and Sherman to the end, and thus show to the world how far we can surpass the Thermopylae of the Greeks.”

Gun rights groups boycott kills nation's largest outdoors show that banned assault weapons

A massive boycott sparked by the NRA and other gun-rights groups outraged that the nation's largest outdoors show banned the exhibition of assault weapons has caused the show's organizers to abruptly cancel the week-long event in Harrisburg, Pa.

The successful boycott was the biggest demonstration of support by the outdoors industry and outdoorsmen yet against gun control efforts being pushed in Washington and in several states.

"Reed Exhibitions has decided to postpone, for now, the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show given the controversy surrounding its decision to limit the sale or display of modern sporting rifles (also called ARs) at the event. The show was scheduled to take place February 2-10 in Harrisburg, Pa.," the organizer said in a statement Thursday.

The show is the biggest in the nation and features several outdoors groups, hundreds of exhibitors and the most popular TV hunting show stars. It draws thousands from the Washington-Baltimore area. As the assault rifle ban became known, exhibitors, sponsors and the TV stars withdrew by the dozens.

College Students to Stage National Silent Protest for Concealed Carry on Campus

 Concealed gun carry on campus

“Stop colleges from trampling on the rights of good people wanting to defend themselves.” That is the message the group Students for Concealed Carry wants to send to state lawmakers around the country.

The grassroots, conservative organization of more than 40,000 supporters is sponsoring a national silent protest April 8-12, in which students will wear empty gun holsters to class to show that they are “defenseless” without guns on campus.

“For years, colleges have cultivated a deadly illusion that a gun-free policy makes us safer,” said the organization’s spokesman David Burnett.

“The mass shootings we’ve seen in recent years only prove killers don’t play by the rules. Today we’re calling on legislators in every state to change those rules and stop colleges from trampling on the rights of good people wanting to defend themselves,” he said.

Burnett added: “The current rule guarantees criminals a free shot. Allowing licensed concealed carry would give potential attackers pause and ultimately give innocent victims a fighting chance.”

I’M ANTI-GUN AND SELF-DEFENSE… NOT

 MCDKIAR EC008

There is something that I should confess.  Ideally, I wish we didn’t have to use guns and that guns did not exist.  Ideally, I wish there was no violence in the world and world peace did exist.  Honestly, I would like to see every human treat their neighbor as they would treat themselves.  In my perfect world, I wish we could remove all the evil people and leave the good people.

Life would be great and one huge party! Who wouldn’t want that?

Realistically though, this is impossible because the line that separates the good person from the evil one goes straight through the heart of every human being.  In reality, the fewer guns the good people have the more of a target they become.  In the world in which we live presently, to have peace we must prepare for war.

Life is a battle every step of the way and it started when you took that first breath just after you came out of your mom’s womb.

Not only do we face physical ailments to our body’s health, but we also run into those few “special” people who threaten, or will threaten, our very existence.    No matter how good of a neighborhood you live in, no matter how responsible you are, there could very possibly come a time when you will have to stand up and fight.

Ex-SEAL Zinke: 'Nearly Certain' Women in Combat Will Cost Lives +

Former Navy SEAL commander and Montana State Sen. Ryan Zinke reacted sharply Wednesday to news the Obama administration will drop the prohibition against women serving in military combat roles, warning it is “nearly certain” to cost lives.

A Republican who served in the elite SEAL Team Six, Zinke cautioned that introducing male-female dynamics on the front lines “has the potential to degrade our combat readiness.”

“I know there are some women who can do the physical training,” Zinke told Newsmax in an exclusive interview. “When I was a SEAL instructor, the Olympic training center is in San Diego, and I watched some Olympic-caliber women athletes run through the obstacle course better than certainly many of the SEAL candidates could do.

“These were quality athletes. So physically, I think there are some women who can do it. But the issue is what are the unintended consequences? This is not a Demi Moore movie.

“In my opinion we’re not ready,” he said. “This is not a Hollywood movie. This has real consequences that are going to affect our sons and daughters whose lives are on the line. I think you need to go very, very carefully when it comes to the defense of our country.”

Bill Introduced To Repeal 'Gun-Free School Zones Act' Because Deadly Mass Shootings Up Five-Fold Under It

Rep. Steve Stockman (R-TX) has introduced a bill to repeal the "Gun-Free School Zones Act" of 1990 (updated in 1995) on the grounds that mass shootings at schools have increased five-fold since its passage.

The "Safe Schools Act of 2013" (H.R.35), co-sponsored by Rep Broun, Paul C. [GA-10] notes that the 1990 "gun-free" law has made schools unsafe because "shooters now know that they can victimize American school campuses with no fear that victims will be armed."

Stockman's bill notes that there have been 10 school shootings killing at least four people each in the 22 years since the "gun-free" bill passed - compared to only two in the 22 years before passage.

What's more, "Horrific massacres on school campuses in Pearl, Mississippi, and southwestern Virginia, were averted by armed staff and students," it says.

Fontana School PD Purchases 14 AR-15 Assault Weapons To Protect Students

The Fontana Unified School District Police Department purchased 14 AR-15 assault weapons to protect students in response to recent shootings across the country, but some school leaders and citizens think it’s a step in the wrong direction.

FUSD Superintendent Cali Olsen-Binks approved the acquisition of the rifles, which are being stored on campuses in locked safes for responding police officers in the event of an attack.

Fontana Police Chief Rodney Jones and Mayor Acquanetta Warren supported Olsen-Binks’ decision.
“It’s unfortunate that we have to have that, but it’s the best message we can send to anybody that thinks to harm our children,” said Jones. “The message we’re sending is…not here, not now, we’re prepared for you. And if you seek to harm our children, we will neutralize that threat and you will most likely be killed.”

Types of real survivalists: 2. The chameleon

 types of real survivalists

Most of the folks who have been through some serious and life threatening situations and survive gonna tell you one thing: they survive it with mental strength.

Also all survival instructors gonna say that first thing in any survival situation to have is will to survive.
It is easy to say today “I will survive!” but great majority of people do not know what will to survive actually means.

In my time I did see some folks who just lay down and had lost will for life. They just gave up.
When it comes to survival you have to focus on what you are good at, and some people are just good at working with other people or maybe dealing or playing with other people.

The mainstream media gives everyone some picture how real survivalist need to look and act. That’s wrong. Today I talk about a smart type of real survivalist.

Americans Back Obama's Proposals to Address Gun Violence

Can't believe this crap.

Given the chance to vote "for" or "against" each of nine key proposals included in President Barack Obama's plan to reduce gun violence, Americans back all nine. Americans are most likely to be in favor of requiring background checks for all gun sales (91%), increasing funding for mental health programs aimed at youth (82%), increasing funding for programs to train law enforcement and schools in responding to active armed attacks (79%), and increasing criminal penalties for people who buy guns for others -- so-called straw purchasers (75%).

RUSSIA TO WEST: We Told You Not To Overthrow Qaddafi!

Via Ryan

 libya

On Wednesday Russia blamed Western countries for creating the current turmoil in Africa by arming Libyan rebels, Timothy Heritage and Gabriela Baczynska of Reuters report

"Those whom the French and Africans are fighting now in Mali are the [same] people who ... our Western partners armed so that they would overthrow the Gaddafi regime," Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told a news conference.

The toppling of Libyan ruler Muammar Qaddafi led to "perhaps the greatest proliferation of weapons of war from any modern conflict," Emergency Director of Human Rights Watch Peter Bouckaert told The Telegraph

Those weapons stockpiles were raided by both sides, and both sides had connections with radical militants.

Don't Worry About Your Guns: There Is Nothing Left To Defend

Via Nancy

Who needs enemies with friends like this?

"And, to you tough-talking Neo-Cons with your AR-15 rifles and  a few thousand rounds of ammo, here is reality: they will take your guns, and no, all your Second Amendment bluster aside, you are not going to do anything about it. You are not going to take on a platoon of Marines with state of the art automatic weapons and the best body armor you cannot buy protected by armed personnel carriers and attack helicopters unless you choose to die that day -- for nothing.

You will either be in the country or out, and if you are in, you will stay in and you will comply.
That is your choice . . . for the moment."

I wrote that last year for The Dollar Vigilante in an article entitled "When They Come For Your Guns You Will Turn Them Over", and it has been republished dozens of times, often as not to vilify the very proposition and its author.

And, even after all the recent saber-rattling in response to Obama's threat to ban certain semi-automatic rifles, I still believe every word of that article. Most Americans will give up their guns when they are told do so. Not necessarily because they are afraid to die, although most are, but because they are so used to giving up what the government mandates be turned over. Guns may just be the next takeaway in a long list of takings by the State.

Others will come to the conclusion that guns no longer serve a purpose vis-à-vis protection from government tyranny because they have already given up all the rights that matter. From free speech to freedom of the press, all that which was once held sacred has been fully abridged. Even Bill Maher, a liberal's liberal, gets that irony.

Scalia pulled a good one at the inauguration

VERBATIM

Kevin Walsh of the University of Richmond School of Law writes:

The twitterverse is alive with tweets about Justice Scalia’s headgear for today’s inauguration. At the risk of putting all the fun speculation to an end . . . The hat is a custom-made replica of the hat depicted in Holbein’s famous portrait of St. Thomas More. It was a gift from the St. Thomas More Society of Richmond, Virginia. We presented it to him in November 2010 as a memento of his participation in our 27th annual Red Mass and dinner.
