VMFA Talking Point Debunked...Myth #2: Interpretive Signs

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCmVM3MTSuxDlIS3zI3pwm5d_IR0-Y8C_sZAzv4ENaBx6ZcVhpiV_GpM_gtqYPM5SHnSueYisTQZImuH750MNUFFWE-c4JPB-P06enGGZnC1t8Ou4730NLZI3DnnoFi0RFs4hfMLz5hT0/s1600/church.jpg

VMFA: “We have installed permanent plaques that discuss the significance and history of the site. The texts were reviewed by the Department of Historic Resources, Charlie Bryan, Waite Rawls, and Ed Ayers to ensure that the information we presented was accurate."

Va Flaggers: Firstly, the installation of such signage would be expected, considering the historical significance of the Chapel and the grounds. What would not be expected, is that the act of doing so would somehow be used as a discussion point to take the spotlight off of the removal of the Confederate Battle Flags from the Confederate War Memorial. Does one act somehow nullify the immorality and illegality of the other?

Secondly, a cursory glance by one of our Flaggers revealed that VMFA officials might want to reconsider their choice of “experts” in the future.

Obama Plugs for Gun Control in Wake of Nevada Shooting

http://cdn2-b.examiner.com/sites/default/files/styles/image_content_width/hash/dc/04/dc040ccb132e585478b10d1ab55640e5.jpg?itok=py2PYscZ

Stockman bills would repeal “gun free zones”

President Barack Hussein Obama is picking a fight with gun owners once again. As reported by The Blaze on Tuesday:

One day after a deadly middle school shooting in Nevada, President Barack Obama “remains committed” to pushing for stricter gun control laws and will “keep at it,” White House press secretary Jay Carney said Tuesday.

This was the second conspicuous shooting in two months -- although the shooting this week did not garner nearly the amount of press that the Navy Yard shooting did in September.

Regardless, the Nevada incident was truly tragic -- especially given the fact that Congress has done nothing to let teachers come to the defense of students.  The Blaze reports:

Police say a 12-year-old boy at Sparks Middle School near Reno, Nev., shot and injured two classmates and killed math teacher Mike Landsberry, a former Marine who served in Afghanistan and who had been trying to talk the shooter out of harming others. The 12-year-old boy also killed himself.

Okay, what’s wrong with this picture?  Can you spot all the ridiculous scenarios that are presented in just that one sentence alone?  This story raises several serious questions:

* Why is a former Marine like teacher Mike Landsberry “trying to talk” the shooter out harming others?  Why can’t he have a gun?

* Why shouldn’t a Marine, who has been trained in weaponry, be able to protect himself and his students?  Why can’t he have a gun?

* Moreover, why does Congress continue to ignore the 80% of police officers who favor “arming teachers and/or school administrators” who volunteer to carry at their schools? Why wasn’t Landsberry allowed to be armed?

* Finally, why isn’t Nevada following the example of its neighbors -- in Utah and Idaho -- which are arming teachers at schools?

While several schools in Idaho are now in the process of implementing this policy, Utah has been doing this for several years.

Thankfully, Rep. Steve Stockman (R-TX) has an answer to this insanity -- the kind of craziness that keeps our teachers unprotected at schools, or for that matter, that keeps our servicemen unprotected when they are at work.

That’s why Rep. Stockman has introduced:

* HR 35, which would repeal the gun ban that keeps teachers and school administrators defenseless.  The bill would thus protect heroes like Assistant Principal Joel Myrick who have actually used a gun to stop a school shooter.

* And HR 3199, which would repeal the ban that keeps servicemen defenseless on military bases.

With ObamaCare “glitches” giving the President headaches, don’t be surprised if he tries to shift the debate at some point after the next shooting.

It’s time to start pushing back -- proactively!

ACTION:   Click here to urge your Representatives to cosponsor HR 35 and HR 3199.  Let them know you don’t want to ban guns; you want to ban gun free zones!

Judgment Day for 'Nazi' police chief

An Arizona police chief once described by the town’s own mayor as a “Nazi” has now been fired by the town more than two years after a famous YouTube video shows him frogmarching a woman out of a town-hall meeting.

The town council of Quartzsite, Ariz., unanimously terminated the contract of Police Chief Jeff Gilbert Tuesday, but agreed to a severance package that one source said is worth $116,000.

ParkerLive reports: “Gilbert had been the center of controversy in Quartzsite for some time, with some residents accusing him of targeting them with politically motivated arrests. The situation spiralled when Jennifer Jones, a local newspaper publisher, was removed from a council meeting by Gilbert. The video of the event was seen thousands of times on YouTube, bringing national press coverage to the town and attention on Chief Gilbert. The resulting furor even prompted a protest rally organized by a Constitution-centered organization called Oath Keepers, with the town’s mayor Ed Foster leading the march.”

Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens Get $130,000 in Taxpayer Money to Peddle Obamacare

Obama Welcomes Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens To White House

You read that right. A privately owned National Football League team is getting $130,000 of taxpayer money in order to popularize Obamacare. According to documents obtained by Judicial Watch, the state of Maryland paid $130,000 to the Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens in order to push the failing health care law and website.

I don’t watch a lot of television. In fact, I don’t ever watch it. If it doesn’t come on Netflix or an online video I usually skip it. That’s why it took me a little while to watch the video of the President rescuing the damsel in distress in the Rose Garden. It popped up on my news feed on Facebook, and I got curious. As it turned out, it floored me. I couldn’t believe how phony it was. As soon as I watched it I went to youtube to check it out from different directions. It was just as fake from any of them.

Suspect Killed While Robbing Pizza Guy

 http://i.huffpost.com/gen/899906/thumbs/r-EDMONTON-BANK-SHOTS-large570.jpg?12

Police say a man was fatally shot while robbing a pizza delivery driver.

Redford Township Police Capt. James Turner said it happened Monday night in the area of 7 Mile Road and Gaylord in Redford Township.

Police say during the armed robbery, one of the suspects was shot and later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

An investigation is ongoing, and Redford Township police are not releasing any names or further details at this time.

This incident comes amid calls in Detroit and some suburbs to arm pizza delivery drivers. Last year, a Jets Pizza franchise in Dearborn announced it would no longer deliver to Detroit after dark after a 19-year-old delivery driver was shot.

Joshua James Crash This Train Acoustic

Via 55 Six

I hope you find what you're lookin for when it all comes runnin down
I hope you find it painted black on your window, or the lips of your lovers frown
Cuz if it dies in cold, when the clouds start to roll.
Is it then that your soul, starts to bleed?
Have you ever seen the President who killed your wounded child?
Or the man that crashed your sisters plane claimin he was sent of god?
And when she died in your arms, late that night in the dark,
did you pray to your God to come home?
Cuz it ain't fair to say, that these tracks are the same.

Chorus:
So god if you can hear me crash this train
said god if you can hear me crash this train.

Now a note to the President, and the Government, and the judges of this place.
We're still waitin for you to bring our troops home, clean up that mess you made.
Cuz it smells of blood and money across the Iraqi land.
But its so easy here to blind us with your "United We Stand"
And it ain't hard to see that this Country ain't free.

Chorus:
So god if you can hear me crash this train
said god if you can hear me crash this train.

To the mothers and the fathers who done the best they could.
Raisin youngins in a messed up world, it ain't so understood.
So I'll cover my ears, and my eyes, pretend that loves the same.
Cuz with one courts signature, it all becomes erased.
And it ain't hard to tell,
when its love we sell.

Chorus:
So god if you can hear me, crash this train
Said god if you can hear me crash this train.
God if you can hear me crash this train.
I said God if you can hear me crash this train.

Free fax: Republican Reps. Need to Oppose the McCaul - Jackson Lee Border 'Security' Bill

 https://si0.twimg.com/profile_images/441598034/twitter-avatar2.png

  NumbersUSA

Rep. Mike McCaul (R-Tex) and Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Tex) have introduced legislation that would:

  • require DHS to regularly report on the status of operational control of the U.S. Borders, which will be verified by the GAO;

  • require DHS to submit a plan to gain operational control (90% effectiveness rate) of the high traffic areas of the southwest border within 5 years, including the implementation plan and various metrics which will be reported on by the GAO; and

  • require DHS to submit a plan to implement a biometric exit system at ports of entry. If the Secretary determines such a plan is not feasible, he or she may submit an alternative plan to achieve the same level of security.
Unfortunately, this bill actually weakens current law because:

  • the Secure Fence Act of 2006 says the DHS Secretary "shall take all actions the Secretary determines necessary and appropriate to achieve and maintain operational control over the entire international land and maritime borders of the United States."

  • the Secure Fence Act of 2006 instructs the DHS Secretary to gain operational control of the border and stop all illegal entries.

  • the 2004 Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act and the 2007 9/11 Commission Implementation Act mandated implementation of a biometric entry/exit system at all ports of entry.
Passage of the McCaul - Jackson Lee border legislation would clearly harm America's security by weakening current law.

Please call/fax your Republican U.S. Representative and urge him/her to oppose this bill.

Hollywood and the New Racism

Beginning in the 1890s and stretching for many years into the 20th century, elderly blacks would appear in towns across the South, some of them ragged, some decently dressed. They were the ex-slaves, who had left after the Emancipation or the final defeat of the Southern cause, to make their own way through the world. But when their time came, they returned to spend their last few weeks and months amid the scenes of their childhoods. They went back to the places where they had been slaves. They went home.
If you can understand that, you will have understood a lot of the complexity that characterizes the human heart. And if you take next step and grasp that in many, perhaps most cases, they were welcomed back, welcomed back by their former masters, by the whites they had left years before, because they belonged, because they were family -- in way that would strike most of us as grotesque to the point of incomprehension, but family all the same -- well, if you understand that, then you have a grasp on something the world needs to know.
****************************************

If you believe press reports, Twelve Years a Slave is undeniably one of the greatest -- perhaps the greatest -- film of 2013. Not due to any skill in filmmaking, which remains to be seen, or audience response -- the film was only released last weekend. But solely because Slave (directed by Steve McQueen, not the dead one with the motorcycle, I'm pretty sure), is this year's PC film, one made for the single purpose of preaching a very contemporary and meticulously constructed racial message.

In this it joins a number of other recent pictures such as The Help and The Butler, and even, in a twisted way, Django. These films are all examples of a generally unrecognized subgenre of the propaganda film. They are racial films designed to raise an admonishing finger toward the white audience regarding its "legacy" as slaveholders while bolstering the blacks in their conviction of victimhood.

The choice is clear in Virginia. The sordid history of Clinton fixer Terry McAuliffe

Americans often complain about the choices they have when they go into the polling place.

And they are often right to complain.

But in Virginia there is a clear choice in the governor’s race.

Ken Cuccinelli is the current attorney general of the state and the Republican candidate for governor. He has led the state’s fight against participation in Obamacare. He is a strong proponent of limited government, free enterprise solutions to economic problems, a supporter of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. He’s everything conservatives, libertarians and Republicans say they want in a leader.

But he is behind in the polls.

Who is he running against?

He’s trailing flaming liberal Democrat Terry McAuliffe, a political fixer from the Clinton machine. He’s corrupt to the core, one of dozens of investors with a Rhode Island estate planner charged with defrauding insurers by using the stolen identities of terminally ill people, according to court documents filed last week by federal prosecutors in Providence.

Fail: New Obamacare Website Snag 'Dramatically Underestimates' Health Costs

The "tech surge" is going swimmingly, it would seem. CBS News has the latest on a fresh, er, "fix" to healthcare.gov, and how it misleads consumers:

As President Obama promises to fix HealthCare.gov, his administration is touting what it calls “improvements” in design, specifically a feature that allows you to “See Plans Now.” White House press secretary Jay Carney has said, “Americans across the country can type in their zip code and shop and browse.” Industry analysts, such as Jonathan Wu, point to how the website lumps people only into two broad categories: “49 or under” and “50 or older.”

Wu said it’s “incredibly misleading for people that are trying to get a sense of what they’re paying.” Prices for everyone in the 49-or-under group are based on what a 27-year-old would pay. In the 50-or-older group, prices are based on what a 50-year-old would pay. CBS News ran the numbers for a 48-year-old in Charlotte, N.C., ineligible for subsidies. According to HealthCare.gov, she would pay $231 a month, but the actual plan on BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina’s website costs $360, more than a 50 percent increase.

The difference: BlueCross BlueShield requests your birthday before providing more accurate estimates. The numbers for older Americans are even more striking. A 62-year-old in Charlotte looking for the same basic plan would get a price estimate on the government website of $394. The actual price is $634.

The Sweet Taste of Freedom: Restaurant Carry in North Carolina

Who knew that legally concealed handguns would thoroughly enhance the experience of dining-out in North Carolina? It might sound like a fairy tale with the direction our country has been going lately, but freedom makes life better for people willing to carry their own weight.

Down here in the Tar Heel State, a Republican sponsored bill for comprehensive pro-gun reform just became law on the 1st of October.

As a result, concealed-handgun-permit (CHP) holders like my wife and I now have the freedom to patronize restaurants without being stripped of our right to bear arms.

In fact, we recently enjoyed dinner at one of our favorite restaurants to celebrate our restored freedom. It felt so “American” not having to stow our guns in our car just to enjoy a good meal. Freedom and guns truly enriched our whole dining experience and added to all the blessing for which we were thankful; a good meal, a wonderful sense of safety, a blessed and free country, and the freedom to thank God for all of it. Chalk it up as another victory for liberty loving Americans and this great country.

With little more than the stroke of a pen, the Supreme Court of the US has denied Certiorari in the Candice Hardwick Case. The letter dated October 7, 2013 arrived Monday in the SLRC office. Thus ends 10 years of the struggle to vindicate the right of South Carolina Government School students to peaceably wear Confederate emblems. The 4th Circuit Decision, which the Supreme Court has let stand, affirms the school’s prerogative to trample student rights. This decision affects students in NC, Virginia, Maryland and West Virginia. Anti-student free speech decisions involving Confederate symbols in the 5th, 6th, 8th, 10 & 11th Circuits of the United States Courts of Appeal are left standing by the Supreme Court Hardwick denial.

The Southern Cross–The Story of the Confederacy’s First Battle Flag

Via Cousin John

The Confederate battle flag remains a symbol of rebellion. In fact the commissioning of the original flag was itself an act of rebellion.

Born as a symbol of rebellion, the Confederate battle flag retains much of that symbolism to this very day.

What is even more intriguing is the fact that the very commissioning of the original Confederate battle flag was itself, an act of rebellion. This little-known part of the flag’s story is told in a fascinating new documentary written and produced by historian Kent Masterson Brown.

Many Civil War enthusiasts are familiar with the work of Kent Masterson Brown. Brown is not only a respected historian, but a seasoned attorney and a graduate of Washington and Lee University’s School of Law. He has authored numerous books on the War Between the States, as well as other works of history.

Brown is also involved in producing history related documentaries through his film company, Witnessing History.

His latest project, The Southern Cross – The Story of the Confederacy’s First Battle Flag, chronicles the birth and creation of the Confederate Battle flag. Brown himself narrates the documentary and the film opens with Brown giving a brief history of the first secession flags and some background on what motivated the various designs, as well as who was responsible for those designs.

Viguerie and other grass-roots conservative leaders are warning that Republicans who voted to end the shutdown on terms favorable to President Barack Obama and the Democrats will face major primary opposition in 2014.

"It's a civil war in the GOP," Viguerie declared Saturday in The New York Times.

Why ObamaCare is a fantastic success

Via Doug

 http://earloftaint.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/obamacare-disaster.jpg?w=800

How stupid is the GOP? They still don’t get it.

I told them 5 years ago, 2 books ago, a national bestseller ago ("The Ultimate Obama Survival Guide"), and in hundreds of articles and commentaries, that ObamaCare was never meant to help America, or heal the sick, or lower healthcare costs, or lower the debt, or expand the economy.

The GOP needs to stop calling ObamaCare a “trainwreck.” That means it’s a mistake, or accident. That means it’s a gigantic flop, or failure. It’s NOT.
Message to the GOP: This isn’t a game. This isn’t tiddly-winks. This is a serious, purposeful attempt to highjack America and destroy capitalism.
This is a brilliant, cynical, and purposeful attempt to damage the U.S. economy, kill jobs, and bring down capitalism.

It’s not a failure, it’s Obama’s grand success.

CA Deputies Shoot, Kill 13-Year-Old Carrying Fake 'Assault Weapon' *UPDATED*

On October 22, a 13-year old boy was shot and killed by Santa Rosa, California Sheriff's deputies after they saw him walking down the street with what they thought to be an "assault rifle."

According to the Associated Press, the deputies ordered the boy to drop the weapon and eventually "fired several rounds." The boy fell to the ground and was handcuffed, after which the deputies "began administering first aid."

The 13-year old was pronounced dead at the scene. It turns out his "assault weapon" was only a replica. He also had a "plastic handgun in his waistband."

Black mobs and the coming race war, by Thomas Sowell

Via Matthew

One of the reasons for being glad to be as old as I am is that I may be spared living to see a race war in America. Race wars are often wars in which nobody wins and everybody ends up much worse off than they were before.

Initial skirmishes in that race war have already begun and have in fact been going on for some years. But public officials pretend that it is not happening, and the mainstream media seldom publish it at all, except in ways that conceal what is really taking place.

For American society, a dangerous polarization has set in. Signs of this polarization over the years include opposite reactions between blacks and whites to verdicts in the O.J. Simpson murder case, the “rape” charges against Duke University students, and trials resulting from the beating of Rodney King and the death of Trayvon Martin.

More dangerous than these highly publicized episodes over the years are innumerable organized and unprovoked physical attacks on whites by young black gangs in shopping malls, on beaches and in other public places all across the country today.

While some of these attacks make it into the media as isolated incidents, the nationwide pattern of organized black on white attacks by thugs remains invisible in the mainstream media, with the notable exception of Bill O’Reilly on the Fox News Channel.

Lessons from the Botucatu, Brazil pizza shop shootout

We’re going to warn you in advance that this video is not safe for work (NSFW).

This video of a pizza store robbery in Botucatu, Brazil has gone viral in recent days because both robbers were shot and killed on camera by a responding police officer.

The crime rate in some parts of Brazil is absurdly high and that must hold true in Botucatu, as the pizza shop employees emoted no reaction at all to the gunmen coming into the store. Even the robbers seem to treat the robbery as routine, up until they attempt to leave and the gunfire begins with a rain of glass at the 53-second mark.

Hundreds of thousands losing health plans

 130104obamahealthcare

To the shock of consumers who believed President Obama’s promise that they could keep their health-insurance plans if they liked them, hundreds of thousands of cancellation notices have been issued since August, according to Kaiser Health News, a service of the health insurance giant Kaiser Permanente.

The letters are going to people who buy their own coverage, which has frustrated many who want to keep what they have and has forced others to buy more costly policies.

The insurers explain that the policies are not in alignment with requirements of Obama’s Affordable Care Act that take effect Jan. 1

Most of the insurers are ending policies sold after the law passed in March 2010.

Liberal Rag Slate Rips Obama Over Disastrous Obamacare Rollout: He’s Either Inept Or Lying…

Note to Slate: He’s both, and then some.
Via Slate:

An IT problem has never escalated faster than the president’s Rose Garden speech Monday addressing the problems with Healthcare.gov. He could no longer outsource responding to user complaints. At first, the White House had said the headaches signing people up for health care coverage were just technical glitches, but now the sheer number of those glitches defies that explanation. Reporting about deeper systemic problems suggest that fixes will not come quickly. As my colleague Matthew Yglesias explains, adding more bodies to the problem adds more complexity, which may exacerbate the problem. It’s hard to untangle Christmas lights by committee.

About some survival myths

World of survival and prepping is full of prejudices and misconceptions so you can read and see lot of stuff, some of them do not have anything to do with reality because people are so used to believe what they want to believe.

Other opinions are there because more sinister reasons, for example someone want you (us) to think that something is true just because it is nicely packaged. Get this latest special close distance gun and you are safe! When every gun in good hands can do this.

Few years ago I read about idea that some guy wrote on some survival forum that using a skateboard for as transportation device to move in urban enviroment when SHTF is a good idea.

Other guys commented (mostly) positive on that idea. Fact that the guy who wrote that never actually experienced urban SHTF is important here, neither he or guys who appreciated the idea.

So after reading that thread, and after reading positive comments on idea you could easily conclude that riding the skate trough the city when SHTF is absolutely cool idea.

Obama's ex-bodyguard losing health coverage

 dan-bongino_main (1)

President Obama repeatedly has promised that no one will lose their health insurance because of the rollout of Obamacare – that, “If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan.”

Truth experts were doubtful, and all the way back in 2009 PolitiFact gave it a “half true” rating. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, it could be time now to change that to “pants on fire” or even a retroactive “lie of the year.”

Among those with evidence about the falsity of the statement is Dan Bongino, a former member of the Secret Service’s elite Presidential Protective Division.

That’s because he is losing his coverage due to Obamacare.

“My plan was canceled, simple as that,” the former Secret Service Agent told WND.

NC: Unsecured AR-15 rifle reported stolen from U.S. Rep. Ellmers' home

 Ellmers DEFAULT MUG

RALEIGH U.S. Rep. Renee Ellmers’ husband reported an AR-15 rifle stolen from the family’s home in Dunn last week, according to a police report.

The weapon had been left leaning against a gun locker in an unlocked garage on Kingsway Drive, the report said.

The rifle, a gun case and a GPS, with a cumulative value of $1,100, were reported stolen, according to Chief J.D. Pope. Police think the theft happened on the night of Oct. 15.

“According to the report, they had been out target shooting and brought the gun back and leaned it against the gun safe,” Pope said. “ … The garage door was left unsecured, according to the report.”
