NYC school cuts popular gifted program over lack of diversity: report

A popular gifted-student program at a New York City elementary school is getting the ax after school officials decided it lacked diversity.

PS 139 Principal Mary McDonald told parents in a letter Jan. 24 that Students of Academic Rigor, or SOAR, would no longer accept applications for incoming kindergartners, the New York Daily News reported.

“Our Kindergarten classes will be heterogeneously grouped to reflect the diversity of our student body and the community we live in,” Miss McDonald said in the letter posted on

At least one parent described SOAR as largely white, while others disagreed, the report said.

One mother conceded the program did have a lot of white students, but worried gifted students now won’t be challenged enough.

“Where are they going to put the higher-level students? Sometimes, there are different levels, and teachers can’t handle all the levels in one class,” she told the Daily News.

Gore & Violence Used in Viral PSA Video To Urge Students To ‘Stay in School’

WARNING: This video contains gore and strong elements of violence that may offend some readers. Proceed with caution.
A new ad encouraging young people to stay in school is generating a lot of buzz on the Internet — and after you watch it, you will immediately understand why. The online PSA, which claims to be produced by the “Learn for Life Foundation of Western Australia,” appears to show a group of kids ditch school for what they think is a fun day at the beach.
Things, however, end in a very unexpected fashion. “This is what happens when you slack off,” the video says. “Stay in school.” It was not clear whether the organization purporting to have created the ad was authentic, but since the video was uploaded Tuesday, it had already achieved nearly half-a-million hits.

Petzal's SHOT Picks: 5 Best New Rifles of 2014

This year at SHOT it was hard to walk 10 feet without encountering a tactical rifle, or a rifle that was designed for long range, or a rifle that cost $3,000. Apparently there are a lot of people out there who are not shy about spending three large on a good gun, and boy, are there some good ones.

Affordable ones.

1) Forbes Rifles

Forbes Rifles which is located in Maine, and builds a less expensive version of the New Ultra Light Arms rifle, which is made in West by God Virginia, began production with a distinctly limited number of calibers and configurations. But for 2014, there are right and left hand guns, long and short actions, stainless or chrome-moly barrels and receivers, a choice of solid colors and ten camo patterns, and lots of new calibers. Like the parent guns, Forbes Rifles are extremely light, dead accurate, and unchanging of zero, but are priced in the $1500-$1600 range, which is about half of what a NULA costs.

‘THE RULES ARE THE RULES’: Government shuts down 11-year-old’s cupcake business

The government has pulled the plug on an 11-year-old Illinois baker’s oven.

A day after a local newspaper ran a story about the young and ambitious Chloe Stirling, who operated a cupcake business out of her parents’ kitchen, the local health department came calling.

“They called and said they were shutting us down,” Heather Stirling, Chloe’s mother, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Anger rising: Obama's an 'enemy combatant'

Voters in one Oklahoma region represented by Rep. Jim Brindenstine may look meek and mild, maybe even sweet, but their opinions of President Obama reveal nothing but a battleground “take-no-prisoners” attitude.

One lady, for example, said there needs to be changes in the Senate so “we can impeach the SOB.”

Said another, “He’s not president as far as I’m concerned. … Should be executed. He’s an enemy combatant.”

She complained that Congress is doing nothing and that “allows this moron to make decisions. He has no authority. None.”

TSA Harasses Police Chief – Placed On Administrative Leave – Told To Disband Entire Police Department

Via avordvet

Police Chief Shane Harger of the Jemez Springs, NM Police Department was placed on administrative leave and ordered to disband his police department today.

Harger returned from the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association Convention on Monday, January 27, 2014 with a sense of knowing that, he as well as 38 other peace officers, shared the commitment to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America from enemies both foreign and domestic. He and the other 38 men and women signed the Resolution of the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association (see below).

The following morning, Harger was informed by Sheriff Douglas C. Wood of Sandoval County, New Mexico, that Harger was to dismantle the Jamez Springs Police Department.

Secession, not convention, offers salvation

The healthiest and most intuitive response to deep-seated, irreconcilable unhappiness – political or personal – is not to hold a constitutional convention, Mark Levin, but to leave, to exit the abusive relationship.

It is indeed inexplicable how the famous broadcaster trashes secession but, at the same time, looks to the states for salvation.

To reclaim the republic, Levin and his listeners hold out hope for the atrophied states and their unexercised role in the amendment process, as stipulated in Article V of the Constitution.

Never mind that the states, contrary to the mistaken predictions and hopes of the Constitution makers, have never initiated a constitutional amendment; and never mind that even in the event the states demand a constitutional convention, there is no mechanism to compel Congress to act.

Ayers: Constitution needs to be replaced

President Obama’s longtime buddy, unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers, Thursday night told debate opponent Dinesh D’Souza and an audience at Dartmouth College that the Constitution is an outmoded document and it ought to be changed.

Ayers and his wife, Bernardine Dohrn, were the main founders of the domestic terror group the Weather Underground, which was assigned responsibility for dozens of bombings aimed at destroying the defense and security infrastructure of the U.S.

D’Souza is the maker of the movie “2016: Obama’s America,” which is the second-highest grossing political documentary of all time.

It blasts Obama’s policies and actions, and warns America about what the nation would be under Obama’s vision for the United States.

See Dinesh D’Souza’s “2016: Obama’s America” and his books in the WNS Superstore.

The topic of the debate was “What’s so Great About America?”

China reveals 'ace' against U.S. military

Members of the Chinese military are looking to use an electromagnetic pulse as part of a “one-two punch” to knock out – literally within seconds – all defensive electronics not only on Taiwan but also on U.S. warships that could defend the island.

This revelation comes in an article by Lou Xiaoqing who says the People’s Liberation Army sees an EMP weapon as the primary means of incapacitating Taiwan and disabling American defenders nearby.

Given that such a strategy was made public in an article entitled “Electromagnetic pulse bombs are Chinese ace,” it is seen as reflecting the official Chinese government position.

Xaoqing said that if the Chinese were to use a high-altitude nuclear device which would create the destructive EMP impact on Taiwan’s electronics, it would be exploded at an attitude of 18 miles to avoid damaging civilian and military equipment on the Chinese mainland, which might happen if the bomb exploded at a higher altitude.

“China is attracted to the fight against the U.S. military after the effective range, using them as a means of surprise attack or an intimidation factor,” Xaoqing said. “The United States will abandon the use of aircraft carrier battle groups to defend Taiwan.”

Xaoqing said that the Chinese military has calculated that the U.S. military is too fragmented and, coupled with the downturn in the economy, would be less likely to come to Taiwan’s assistance, forcing Taiwan to defend itself.

Ted Cruz: House GOP's Amnesty Push Will Ruin Hopes of Retaking Senate

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) thinks that the House GOP leadership’s renewed push this week to grant amnesty to illegal aliens would destroy the Republican Party’s chances at retaking the Senate in 2014.

Cruz questioned how establishment Republicans unilaterally caving to Democrats on everything from the farm bill to the budget to the debt ceiling and more could think amnesty is a good idea at this time.

"Right now, Republican leadership in both chambers is aggressively urging members to stand down on virtually every front: on the continuing resolution, on the budget, on the farm bill, on the debt ceiling,” Cruz said in a statement provided exclusively to Breitbart News on Thursday.

NC: GRNC: Pro-gun Rep. Larry Pittman targeted by RINOs who would sell you out

He is a good man and anti-Communist Core.

Representative Larry Pittman (R, Cabarrus, GRNC ****) was critical to passing the largest expansion of gun rights in North Carolina history, House Bill 937.

How so? With GRNC support, Pittman led a “floor fight” to return restaurant carry to a bill from which leadership had stripped it. Realizing the seriousness of the effort, House leadership later moved restaurant carry, the Senate improved it, and the rest is history.

It takes guts to stand up to leadership in defense of gun rights, but there is a price: So called “mainstream” Republicans are determined to remove Pittman. Now the most pro-gun member of the NC House is facing a well-financed RINO in the primary. What will you do about it?

GRNC President Paul Valone invites you to...

“Most parents and grandparents remain painfully unaware the GSUSA has introduced so-called ‘family planning’ ideology in its curriculum and promotes groups like Planned Parenthood to our daughters and granddaughters,” she said.

"Beast" Butler, the Anti-Semite

Mrs. Rebecca Levy resided in the New Orleans home of her brother, Confederate cabinet member Judah Benjamin, at the time of the enemy occupation. Northern General Butler seized the home “and also certain other possessions which [he] could lay his hands on, including a black tin box full of Tehuantepec bonds and other papers.” Mrs. Levy escaped to Georgia for the war’s duration.

Butler, the Anti-Semite

“Some of the most prominent persons of the Union were imbued with prejudice against the Jews.  One of these was Major-General Benjamin F. Butler of Massachusetts, conniving careerist and political opportunist of major proportions, who was given the title “Beast” by the Confederacy for his severity during the early military occupation of New Orleans.

One of his better known victims was Mrs. Philip Phillips, wife of the Alabama Congressman, a fire-eating secessionist in skirts.  Butler ordered her imprisoned on Ship Island for months . . . . The war Butler waged upon this Jewess and other Southern women made him the Confederacy’s “Public Enemy Number One,” with a price upon his head.

The General revealed the extent to which he had imbibed prejudicial conceptions of the Jews. They were [to him] a tightly-knit and highly organized nation who set themselves apart  and defended themselves against others even when one of their group was wrong.  They were all “traders, merchants, and bankers.” They were supporting the Confederacy with whole heart – “two of them certainly are in the Confederate Cabinet.”

[A Jewish editor] wondered who the Cabinet officers were . . . the progenitor of “the tribe of Benjamin, the Jewish Secretary of State,” as Butler referred to him in another connection; and then a highly inaccurate report: “I refer to Mr. Memminger as the other member of the Confederate Cabinet.  I have been informed that Mr. [Stephen] Mallory is also of the Jewish faith or nationality.” It was apparent that Butler was one of those who, without further investigation, adopt any rumors which support their prejudices.

The Jewish Record of New York . . . reported that Butler had said “he could suck the blood of every Jew, and he would detain every Jew as long as he can.” The editor of the Record said he was afraid to publish details of Butler’s mistreatment of Jewish prisoners because it would only give him a chance to “increase his severities” against them.”

NC: Common Core Propaganda On a wall in Raleigh

Here are the statements, in quotations, followed by my comments in response.
"Let us teach honestly and boldly that education is not only the best thing for which public money can be spent, but that it is also the most expensive.  Nothing except ignorance is more costly than education."
How self-serving can you get?!  This is nothing less than an arrogant declaration by the elitist educational bureaucracy that, even as our public educational system continues to crank out graduates who can't even read their diplomas, they will demand more and more power and funding for their social engineering education monopoly.  This is not a reflection on dedicated teachers who do the best they can for our children, but on the corrupt system that pressures them to serve an agenda that is detrimental to true, worthwhile education.
"Love worked where discipline failed."
How preposterous!  Do these people not understand that discipline is an act of love?  Discipline is not synonymous with punishment.  Discipline may sometimes have to include punishment when punishment becomes necessary.  However, discipline is training.  Discipline is setting a positive example, sharing truthful knowledge, and influencing the student, or disciple, to deal responsibly with that training and to embrace self-discipline.  Caring enough for our children to urge them toward an informed, responsible and self-disciplined approach to life is a very loving thing to do, even if it sometimes requires punishment to get their attention and demonstrate the gravity of their actions.
"by example, almost never by words"
This is an insipid half-truth.  Certainly, an example that shows our words to be insincere benefits no one, and words are pretty empty if our example contradicts them.  Yet, without a cogent explanation, few will learn the meaning and value of the example or the value of following it.
"Learning in old age is writing on sand, but learning in youth is writing on stone."
There is a bit more truth to this one.  It is true that when we get very old, we retain less of what we once knew and find it hard to learn new things, while young minds normally can learn and retain knowledge much more easily.  For instance, it is much easier for a child to learn a foreign language than it is for an adult.  However, one glaring implication of this statement is that it is a waste of time trying to teach older people anything.  It implies that members of the older generation are old fogies and that young people know everything.   Therefore young people don’t need to listen to the older generation.  This tends toward a devaluing of the older generation, who have much to teach us if we will only give them a chance.  The idea that childhood is the time of perfection is wishful thinking.
So much for your tax dollars at work at DPI!  We'd be much better served by putting the authority in public education back at the local level, in the hands of parents and teachers, in that order.

Rookie cop who shot 72-year-old dead in his home while investigating burglary at the WRONG address will not be charged

Via avordvet

No consequences: A grand jury has decided not to indict the rookie police officer who shot dead 72-year-old Jerry Waller (right) on accident last May. Pictured above with wife Kathy

A grand jury in Tarrant County, Texas has decided not to indict the rookie police officer who shot dead a homeowner while investigating a burglary at the wrong address.

Last May, R.A. 'Alex' Hoeppner and his partner Benjamin Hanlon accidentally started searching 72-year-old Jerry Waller's property, confusing it in the dark for a house across the street.

Waller was in bed with his wife Kathy at the time, and was stirred by the police officer's flashlights. Fearing a prowler was outside, he grabbed his .35-caliber-pistol and went to investigate.

According to a search warrant affidavit released by the Star-Telegram in July, the two officers encountered an armed Waller near the corner of his home, told them they were police and to drop his gun.

Waller didn't drop his gun and instead raised it at Hoeppner who proceeded to fatally shoot the senior citizen seven times.

U. of Michigan Black Student Union: Stop mentioning race in crime alerts

Black student union

The Black Student Union at the University of Michigan (UMBSU) is back in the news. Last week, LU reported that the UMBSU had delivered an ultimatum to the administration to meet seven demands (including a requirement that 10% of the campus be represented by black students) or face “physical action.” That sounds like a threat of violence, which may well explain the BSU’s latest demand: that the race of suspects in campus-related crime be stricken from crime alerts.

The Rodent Retires! Halleluiah!

Rep. Henry Waxman, one of Congress' fiercest negotiators and a policy expert on everything from clean air to health care, will retire at the end of the year after four decades in the House.

"It's time for someone else to have the chance to make his or her mark," the liberal California Democrat said in a statement announcing he won't seek re-election.

"I never imagined I would be in the House for 40 years and be able to advance every issue I care deeply about," he added. "It has been an extraordinary experience."

Not one, however, without a degree of disillusionment.

In his 3 ½-page statement, Waxman explicitly condemned conservative House Republicans elected in 2010. "I abhor the extremism of the Tea Party," he said, adding he's "embarrassed that the greatest legislative body in the world too often operates in a partisan intellectual vacuum, denying science, refusing to listen to experts, and ignoring facts."

Stanford law prof: Second Amendment is about restricting gun rights

Chicago moves toward gun rights (REUTERS/Adrees Latif)

A Stanford University law professor took the view that the Second Amendment permits strong gun control, telling the crowd that “restriction has to be at the core” of the right to carry a gun.

John J. Donohue, a member of the Stanford Law School faculty, made his remarks during a debate with attorney Donald Kilmer, an adjunct professor at Lincoln Law School of San Jose.

“I support the right to self-defense,” said Donohue during the debate, according to The Stanford Review. “But that doesn’t mean that you have a right to high-capacity magazines.”

GOA Action Alert: Boehner Working with Obama to Ambush House Republicans on Bloomberg-backed Immigration Changes

“Democrat control of Congress bodes well for oppressive gun laws, [and] a huge influx of newly legal voters from cultures where draconian government control over private firearm ownership is an unquestioned matter [helps]. Bloomberg can hardly be unaware of that.” -- The Examiner, January 29, 2014

The good thing about anti-gun liberals in Washington is that they are pathologically incapable of keeping their mouths shut.

And, Wednesday morning, shortly before 9:00, MSNBC commentator Dick Gregory announced that House Speaker John Boehner, the day before, had told a private meeting of reporters that he had been talking with Barack Obama "a lot" about pushing immigration reform.

It's pretty clear why Barack Obama wants a bill which would either legalize or grant citizenship to as many as 11.5 million people who, according to Latinos expressing their opinions in a Pew poll, would cast 88% of their votes for liberals like Barack Obama.

It's also clear what Speaker Boehner has in mind:  If he sabotages his own party, the liberal media will throw him a "doggie treat."

But, for other House Republicans, the advantage of having an Obama/Boehner knife in their back is a little less clear.

A note on why gun owners have "skin" in the immigration game: By turning a net 8,000,000 people into an "Obama army," even "legalization" without immediate citizenship would fundamentally change electoral politics for the 2014 elections.

This is why, along with gun control, former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has made immigration "reform" his central priority.

The anti-gun Bloomberg knows that "legalization" of persons unlawfully in the U.S. will create an "Obama army" which will transform the 2014 elections and achieve the almost impossible task of delivering the House and the Senate to the party of gun control.

With Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid in power in 2015, the "Obama army" will then get their "citizenship" reward -- and gun control will advance.

This “Obama army” has already made several appearances:

Remember how, in November, children of illegals ambushed House Speaker John Boehner in a local diner over breakfast?

Remember how a mob of pro-amnesty spectators turned the U.S. Senate into a pep rally last June by chanting Obama's campaign slogan, "Yes we can," from the Senate gallery?

Remember how Bloomberg orchestrated out-of-state agitators who descended on the town hall meetings of Senators like Kelly Ayotte and Jeff Flake in order to demand gun control last Spring?

Multiply this by a million, and you will understand the ramifications of giving Obama an anti-gun army, going into the 2014 elections.

ACTION:  Contact your congressman. Tell him to stand up to House Speaker John Boehner at this weekend's "retreat" and to oppose the creation of an "Obama army." There are separate letters for Republican and Democrat Congressmen.  Based on your zip code, the correct letter will be automatically selected.

The Unbelievable State of Parental Rights in America

On Tuesday President Obama gave his “State of the Union” address, in which he gave his view of where our nation is right now and where we are headed.

But what about parental rights? Where are we and where are we headed? It turns out we are not as free and secure as we would like to be, and we’re heading in the wrong direction. Here is an overview of parental rights in America as we begin 2014.

Medical Freedom - Hospitals:

Boston Children’s Hospital and the Massachusetts Department of Youth and Families take another child hostage because hospital staff disagree with the parents on the child’s medical diagnosis.
In California, “Baby Sammy” was taken from his parents because they left one hospital to seek a second opinion at another before subjecting the child to open-heart surgery.

Toppling The Lords of Wall St., Main St., and Penn Ave.

Here we are.  A system in perpetual crisis.  Less and less able to accomplish basic functions.

A system being led by an economic and political leadership increasingly divorced from reality.

A self-aggrandizing leadership unable to do anything but engage in exercise of complex futility (political – healthcare/national insecurity) or fantasy (economic – the shadow banking system).

A complexity made worse by applying technological patches/fixes/solutions to a system in decline.

However, that isn’t where it ends.  Humanity has more in store for it than bureaucracy and markets can make possible.

Something new is coming and its arrival distorts the current system.

The American Lenin

Via comment by DMS on Lincoln’s War to Prevent Self-Government

It's harder and harder these days to tell a liberal from a conservative -- given the former category's increasingly blatant hostility toward the First Amendment, and the latter's prissy new disdain for the Second Amendment -- but it's still easy to tell a liberal from a libertarian.

Just ask about either Amendment.

If what you get back is a spirited defense of the ideas of this country's Founding Fathers, what you've got is a libertarian. By shameful default, libertarians have become America's last and only reliable stewards of the Bill of Rights.

But if -- and this usually seems a bit more difficult to most people -- you'd like to know whether an individual is a libertarian or a conservative, ask about Abraham Lincoln.

As House Republicans prepare to sell out the country on immigration this week, Phyllis Schlafly has produced a stunning report on how immigration is changing the country. The report is still embargoed, but someone slipped me a copy, and it's too important to wait.

Leave aside the harm cheap labor being dumped on the country does to the millions of unemployed Americans. What does it mean for the Republican Party?

Citing surveys from the Pew Research Center, the Pew Hispanic Center, Gallup, NBC News, Harris polling, the Annenberg Policy Center, Latino Decisions, the Center for Immigration Studies and the Hudson Institute, Schlafly's report overwhelmingly demonstrates that merely continuing our current immigration policies spells doom for the Republican Party.

Immigrants -- all immigrants -- have always been the bulwark of the Democratic Party. For one thing, recent arrivals tend to be poor and in need of government assistance. Also, they're coming from societies that are far more left-wing than our own. History shows that, rather than fleeing those policies, they bring their cultures with them. (Look at what New Yorkers did to Vermont.)

This is not a secret. For at least a century, there's never been a period when a majority of immigrants weren't Democrats.

At the current accelerated rate of immigration -- 1.1 million new immigrants every year -- Republicans will be a fringe party in about a decade.

Thanks to endless polling, we have a pretty good idea of what most immigrants believe.

Let The Games Begin

US Revolution

Anyone who has ever loved something and had to let it go understands the situation in America today. I don't care if it was a beloved Teddy Bear patched over and over again, the material so thin that it can no longer support new stitches or a great car that embodied and seemed to recall all of the great times contained within its metal shell, there comes a time to let go of the past and look to the future.

So, let us look at our history in America for a moment. It began as a capitalist experiment (and I have been chided for that term for its derivation from Marx as derogatory, but set that aside as we have never known a free market and likely never will, and no, I will not engage the debate here). It was a trading outpost for Britain, France and Spain, each exploiting different parts of the new continent.

There was liberty. The respective crowns were distant and those who braved the seas to arrive and occupy the land did so at their peril. It made of us a risk-taking lot; it made of us self-reliant; it made of us actors rather than reactors. Centuries passed, frontiers dissolved and we arrived at modern America: a tangled web of misinformation, disinformation and largely disconnected from our history. We are fed fairy tales from the television, always spouting a liberal, leftist, Marxist, totalitarian meme.

We are lost. Those of us who understand our rights, who understand the Constitution and the way it was weaved through an understanding of God as the supreme power, are few. The rest believe what they hear on the news, or newspapers, or general gossip.

NC: Meddlesome Moms Want to Censor Your Facebook Page!

It’s no surprise that America’s newest anti-freedom group, Moms Demand Action Gun Bans (a wholly owned subsidiary of Michael Bloomberg’s anti-freedom Mayors Against Illegal Guns), would be interested in abrogating your first and second amendment rights. Their latest attack on your freedoms comes via social media, where they are encouraging Facebook to limit your right to advertise your lawfully-owned firearms for sale on the world’s largest social networking website.

Their misguided ad claims that Facebook “hosts” gun sales. To the contrary: Facebook is simply a vehicle for communicating, not unlike a newspaper, a bulletin board in the lunchroom, or an Internet discussion forum. In fact, Facebook would be a terrible place to conduct illegal gun sales; any criminal foolish enough to break the law by selling guns illegally on Facebook would find his communications well documented for the resulting criminal court proceedings.

Where will these intrusions into free speech end? Would agreeing to lend your friend a modern sporting rifle through a Facebook instant message violate the rules that the Nanny Moms are pushing to enact? It’s no secret that the Nanny Moms already want to make it a federal crime to lend your friend a rifle (as the draconian and unconstitutional state laws of Colorado and New York already do—laws that many Colorado sheriffs have recognized as unconstitutional, and laws that they have refused to enforce).

Perhaps the Moms’ next step will be to ban parking lots and dark alleys and trunks of cars, where criminals might also ply their trade. All the while, they are steadily chipping away at your God given rights to keep and bear arms, and to free speech.

Moms Demand Action’s ultimate goal is to completely disarm Americans. Their misguided belief that barring people the right to arm themselves for lawful self-defense will somehow make us “safer” is as insidious as their willingness to use their children to further their misguided political agenda.
What will you do to combat the Bloomberg-funded Nanny Moms? Will you stand idly while they work tirelessly to abrogate your constitutional rights? Or will you stand up and be heard?

Feminist Laura Levites To Cathy McMorris Rodgers: “I Want To Rip Out Your Uterus And Eat It”

"I will fight to defend the rights and ownership of my Vagina till the death"

(I doubt seriously if anyone has intentions of getting anywhere near it, dear. BT)

Washington state Senator Cathy McMorris Rodgers delivered the Republican “rebuttal” to President Obama’s State of the Union Address Tuesday night, which couldn’t be an easy task when having to respond diplomatically to an hour plus of lies. However, she gave the speech, and she did it gracefully. What she also did was inject a very pro-life narrative into her speech that was admirable.

America knows where she stands on the issues of life and how precious it is. Yet, vile feminist “comedian” Laura Levites responded with demonically charged tweets that send shivers down the spine. The state of The union is pathetic, and the state of the American culture is worse. Feminists have taken to obscenities that would never be publicly expressed a generation ago, much less said in private. But Satan is in full attack mode, and wicked feminists are seeing blood.

Lincoln’s War to Prevent Self-Government

The initial 13th Amendment -- also known as the Corwin Amendment -- would have made slavery constitutional and permanent -- and Lincoln supported it. (AP)
*The initial 13th Amendment — also known as the Corwin Amendment — would have made slavery constitutional and permanent — and Lincoln supported it.

Conservative historian M.E. Bradford was deeply concerned by the ongoing deification and cult status of Lincoln, and how Yankee idolatry of him had so blurred the history, nature and consequences of the war “as to render Lincoln impervious to serious criticism.”

Lincoln’s War to Prevent Self-Government

“As [historian] Frank Owlsey complained in 1946, there was afoot in this land, “what seems to me a Lincoln cult bordering on pagan deification which is taking place in the popular mind of the North”; and it has been seriously inspired by serious scholars, who have allowed their emotions and bias to overemphasize certain elements and minimize others.”

In his essay on “A Southerner’s View of Abraham Lincoln,” Owsley’s principal complaint was not that Lincoln lacked moral scruples, but that he frequently exercised poor judgment – as seen, for example, in *his refusal to accept the Crittenden Compromise and in his naïve, persistent belief that the people of the South would never support their leaders in a war of secession.

*Though he did approve of  the original 13th amendment. BT.

I understand a proposed amendment to the Constitution--which amendment, however, I have not seen--has passed Congress, to the effect that the Federal Government shall never interfere with the domestic institutions of the States, including that of persons held to service. To avoid misconstruction of what I have said, I depart from my purpose not to speak of particular amendments so far as to say that, holding such a provision to now be implied constitutional law, I have no objection to its being made express and irrevocable.

First Inaugural Address of Abraham Lincoln, Monday, March 4, 1861

Lincoln, argued Owsley, never fully grasped the depth of Southern patriotism or the magnitude of the war, until it was too late to compromise. By denying the South the right to self-government, Lincoln also subverted the democratic principles of the document he so often cited as authority for his constitutional views – the Declaration of Independence. “It seems ironic to Southerners that the United States,” observed Owsley, “a nation based upon the right of the people to live under a government of their choice, should make war to prevent a people – the South – from living under a government of their choice.”

No less charitable with respect to Lincoln’s motives and moral reasoning, Donald Davidson also questioned Lincoln’s political acumen . . . asserting that the emancipator foolishly made war on his own ideas and objectives, ruining both the South and the North while creating an America he did not want.

[M.E.] Bradford persuasively demonstrated [that Lincoln] was more than simply wrong-headed; he was “dishonest” and “duplicitous” “pseudo-Puritan,” a disingenuous “opportunist” guilty of “calculated posturing,” “historical distortions,” and “high crime”; he was indeed “the American Caesar of his age.”  “It is at our peril,” Bradford cautioned, “that we continue to reverence his name.”

Beretta announces manufacturing expansion in Tennessee

After months of searching, Beretta USA announced this morning that it will expand its U.S. operations by building a new firearms manufacturing plant just outside of Nashville, Tennessee.

Beretta officials made the announcement along with Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam that the company will invest $45 million in a state-of-the-art manufacturing and R&D facility, and bring to the Volunteer State 300 new jobs. The company is expected to complete construction on the facility this year in Gallatin Industrial Park.

Alaska-Yukon moose: “It is the best meat you can get in the world,”

Boone and Crockett measurers scoring Heinz Naef's record moose.

For Heinz Naef, the verification of his record Alaska-Yukon moose by a Boone and Crockett Club (B&C) panel was the proverbial icing on the cake. Naef’s record was all but official when the rack was scored by B&C measurer Clint Walker last month at 263-1/8. However, Naef needed to bring his moose to Reno, Nevada for review by a Special Judges Panel as a formality.

In the end, the panel decided to bump up the final score to 263-5/8. Those measurements make Naef’s moose one of only two to ever score above 260. The other was the previous world record, which was harvested by John Crouse near Alaska’s Fortymile River two decades ago. That moose scored 261-5/8.

Christian Grammy Nominee Natalie Grant Walks Out of the Grammys

 Natalie Grant

Christian Contemporary music star Natalie Grant was nominated for two Grammys.

Grant was up for Best Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Performance for “Alive (Mary Magdelene),” a song she wrote with her husband Bernie Helms, and Best Christian Music Song for the chart-topping “Hurricane.”

The couple went to the Grammys proud to represent gospel music. Little did they know when they arrived at the Los Angeles Staples Center that they’d be going to church.

To warm up the congregation and open the service, Beyoncé twerked her ample bethonged derriere to the delight of millions. After that, Natalie and Bernie were subjected to Mrs. Carter sitting astride a chair in, shall we say, an extremely come-hither position.

Rembrandt's Night Watch..................Flash mob!

Via Sister Anne

The Rijks museum  in Holland had an idea: Let's bring the art to the people and then, hopefully, they will come to see more - at the museum. They took one Rembrandt painting from 1642, Night Watch and brought to life the characters in it, placed them in a busy mall and the rest you can see for yourself!
