The case for Russia collusion … against the Democrats

Now that both the House and Senate investigative committees have cleared Donald Trump of Democrat-inspired allegations of Russian collusion, it is worth revisiting one anecdote that escaped significant attention during the hysteria but continues to have U.S. security implications.

As secretary of State, Hillary Clinton worked with Russian leaders, including Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and then-President Dmitri Medvedev, to create U.S. technology partnerships with Moscow’s version of Silicon Valley, a sprawling high-tech campus known as Skolkovo.

Cuomo in Panic After Tax Revenue Comes Up $2.3 Bil Short… ‘God Forbid if the Rich Leave’

Via Billy

Andrew Cuomo

Time and time again, the Democrats turn to higher tax rates, particularly on the wealthy, as a means of making things better somehow. At times it may appear to be virtue signaling to say that those who are rich should “pay their fair share” even when they pay most of the taxes already.

Now New York is showing, yet again, that a progressive income tax system that really is about redistributing wealth and punishing the rich will eventually implode. The rich will simply move themselves, their assets, and their capital elsewhere.

Democratic governor Andrew Cuomo announced that New York state’s income tax revenue had taken a nosedive after he introduced his new budget plan a month ago, according to the New York Post. The hit taken by the state is a whopping $2.3 billion.

NC Rep. Walter Jones, Ron Paul Republican dies at age 76

Because I did not do my job then, I helped kill 4,000 Americans, and I will go to my grave regretting that." (A Southern Gentleman.)
Longtime Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.), who came to Congress in the Republican revolution of 1994 and later became an independent voice and critic of the war in Iraq, died Sunday at the age of 76.

Jones, who hadn’t voted since September because of illness, entered hospice care in January after breaking his hip.

A special election will be held later this year to fill his seat.

He was best known as a critic of the U.S. war in Iraq, a military engagement he initially championed.

Saigon Farewell: 1975: Last 747 Out of Saigon

Roundabout via Jay M Chladek

Al Topping poses with Pan Am Boeing 747

When South Vietnam ceased to be

It's four decades since the collapse of the former country of South Vietnam. Intervening years have wrought mighty changes to the world. Vietnam is one country now, and the U.S. has long since normalized relations with the former enemy. The very name of South Vietnam's former national capital city - Saigon - is a historical  footnote now. Americans can visit the country with no difficulty, and many do.

In this 21st Century context, it's difficult to grasp just what it was like at the end of the Vietnam War in April 1975. As it had been for the duration of that war, Pan Am played a part at its end. We're fortunate to have Al Topping's account, who had arrived to become Pan Am's man in Saigon in December of 1972.

(This very real story was dramatized in movie starring James Earl Jones, Last Flight Out, 1990, and Al is currently working on a book about that time, which he hopes to have published later this year.)

Is Congressman Al Green the Dumbest Man in Washington? In Texas? America?

It is unclear how far Rep. Al Green is on the articles and whether he plans to file a privileged resolution for impeachment. (Godofredo A. Vasquez/AP)

Apparently so.  Rep. Al Green (D-TX) announced today that the reason why Virginia Governor Ralph Northam was photographed in blackface in his 1984 medical school yearbook is Donald Trump’s “bigotry.”  The governor is apparently clairvoyant enough to have known in 1984 that Donald Trump would be elected thirty-two years later, and so he must have thought he should board the bigotry train early.

Reminds me of how some critics of my book, The Real Lincoln accused me of veiled “racism” by writing the book as a  response to the election of Obama.  The Real Lincoln was published in 2002; Obama was elected in 2008.  I apparently share Governor Northam’s clairvoyance.

The Democrats Lose Their Minds & prove Howard Schultz right

.......Hence AOC's call for a 70-percent marginal tax rate—backed by the same genius from Berkeley who designed Warren's expropriation of wealth—to help pay for the "Green New Deal" that will give us "a 100% greenhouse gas neutral power generation system, decarbonizing industry and agriculture and more."

I'm not a Democrat—in case you haven't noticed—but Howard Schultz is. And Schultz isn't one of those Blue Dog, Southern or Midwestern, conservative Democrats either. He's from Seattle, holds liberal positions on, as far as I can tell, every issue, and has donated gobs of money to the Democratic Party and to the last two Democratic presidents. But Schultz is also a democratic capitalist who attributes his phenomenal success—his fortune from Starbucks is around $3 billion—at least in part to America's culture of entrepreneurial risk-taking, minimal government interference in commerce, individual responsibility, and rule of law. He worries that the Democratic Party, radicalized by the presidency of Donald Trump, is in the process of abandoning support for the very aspects of American life that made his life possible. "Both parties are consistently not doing what's necessary on behalf of the American people and are engaged, every single day, in revenge politics," Schultz told 60 Minutes last Sunday. The Democrats then began proving his point for him.

SCOTTeVEST CEO Scott Jordan said his company advertises on Fox News because their viewers are “extremely gullible” and “f**cking idiots.”

One is left to wonder just how shoddy Jordan’s product is (a vest with enough inside pockets to carry a phone, tablet, water bottle, etc.) if he counts on “extremely gullible … f**king idiots” to purchase it.

Anyway, sounding like a true elitist, Jordan made the comments on Facebook within the context of meeting people on a “ski lift.”

Key GOP senator: Border wall talks are stalled

“We’ll take as much money as you can give us and then we’ll go off and find the money someplace else, legally, in order to secure that southern barrier, but this is going to get built with or without Congress,” he said. (Mulvaney)

Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a key negotiator on President Trump’s demand for a border wall, said on Sunday that congressional talks are stalled, raising the prospect of another government shutdown at week’s end.

“I think the talks are stalled right now. I’m hoping we can get off the dime later today or in the morning because time is ticking away but we’ve got some problems with the Democrats dealing with ICE, that is detaining criminals that come into the U.S. and they want a cap on them. We don’t want a cap on that,” Shelby said on “Fox News Sunday,” referring to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

So the Green New Deal thinks it's okay to give money to people who don't want to work?  I don't think this will sit well with Americans who bust their asses everyday to put food on the table.

“It is indeed a crisis. And, you know, we have right now an invasion. If you look at what’s going on with the caravans, it’s an invasion. There are three caravans heading our way. If we had a wall, it wouldn’t even be a problem,” he said.
A massive group of illegal immigrants was arrested in southern Arizona on Thursday

Border Patrol agents arrested 325 Central Americans near Lukeville, Arizona, after the group illegally entered the country.

The group surrendered when spotted, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The group had been dropped off the night before its arrest about 50 yards from the border, KNXV reported.

At the area where the group crossed the border, the only barrier in place is designed to block vehicles from crossing, not people, according to the Border Patrol.

The Dark Side of Abraham Lincoln

Lincoln

By way of prologue, let me say that all of us like the Lincoln whose face appears on the penny. He is the Lincoln of myth: kindly, humble, a man of sorrows who believes in malice toward none and charity toward all, who simply wants to preserve the Union so that we can all live together as one people.

The Lincoln on the penny, had he lived, would have spared the South the ravages of Reconstruction and ushered in the Era of Good Feeling in 1865. The fact that this mythic Lincoln was killed is surely the ultimate tragedy in a tragic era. Indeed the most that any Southerner could say in behalf of the slayer of that Lincoln was what Sheldon Vanauken reported hearing from an old-fashioned Virginian:

“Young Booth, sir, acting out of the best of motives, made a tragic blunder.” But the Lincoln on the penny, the mythic Lincoln, did not exist. Instead a very real man, a political absolutist with enormous human weaknesses, for a time held the destiny of the nation in his oversized palm. So why do we dislike this Lincoln so much? There are many reasons, and here, just for starters, are three good ones:
