What Makes This Musician Great?–Hank Williams

This is the second installment of the series ‘What Makes this Musician Great,” and will focus on the man from Butler County, Alabama – Hank Williams.  In this ongoing series, I explain what makes Southern musicians and their music so great and worth remembering while using non-technical language that can hopefully be understood by non-musicians, and this is the perfect format for an artist like Hank.

I’ve noticed that a lot of people get Hank’s timeline wrong in their heads, and they generally think of him as being a later phenomenon of the mid- to late-50’s instead of the late-40’s and early-50’s.  He signed with MGM Records in 1947, appeared on the Grand Ole Opry for the first time in 1949, and died on New Year’s Day 1953 at the incredibly young age of 29.  His superlative talent is divided into Hank the Songwriter and Hank the Performer.  While either of those gifts would have been enough alone to put him on the map, Hank made abundant use of both to rocket him into legendary, once-in-forever status.  Therefore, in explaining what makes Hank Williams, I must start with his exclusively iconic way of telling his own stories in a way that completely draws you in.

[Photos] A Tourist-Free Hoi An of the 1990s by Photographer Doi Kuro

Phan Rang, 1998.

Witness the casual atmosphere of central Vietnam more than two decades ago.

In Vietnam's famous origin myth, half of the nation's original citizenry settled with their father, Lac Long Quan, near his sea-adjacent hometown. There, they learned to live in concert with their coastal surroundings: scooping fish from the ocean, planting fruit and rice in fertile soil, and cavorting atop vast sand dunes. Towns grew and communities expanded as the modern world emerged from myth, but their descendants still live in the colorful region where the mid-afternoon breeze carries an unmistakable hint of sea salt.

Japanese photographer Doi Kuro took these photos during several trips to the region throughout the 1990s. While the towns are not as developed as in 2019, the photos depict people sharing meals on tiny stools, pedaling down quiet streets and rowing into calm waters just like today.

How South Vietnam Died by a Stab in the Front

"A pregnant lady" – abandoned by her lover to face her fate.

At 8 o'clock on the morning of Saturday, March 15, Tran Van Anh, a shrewd, wiry man of 45 who managed a small ice‐making factory in Pleiku, climbed into his old Dodge truck, which he had bought cheaply from the departing American troops in 1973, and drove to work. He did not notice anything out of the ordinary. Groups of off‐duty South Vietnamese soldiers wandered aimlessly in the potholed streets of the drab, dusty town that served as headquarters for the 20,000 square miles of South Vietnam's Central Highlands. Packs of lean, yellow dogs rooted in piles of uncollected garbage. By the door of the Dong Khanh Hotel, where American G.I.'s on leave had once stayed, the owner, a slight man with a wispy white beard, sat on a chair, as he did every morning, nodding to passers‐by.

The End of the Long March?

ITALY-ROME-STREET-ART

The army and the police have not capitulated to Wokeism—yet.

Remember those halcyon days when our biggest concerns were Howard Zinn textbooks and mainstream media bias? The left is long past that. Victory begets victory, and they feel no pressing need to shore up their wins. Now they’re gunning to control the guns—and not necessarily in the way you think.

There are only two institutions left for the left to conquer—institutions filled with the backward, white supremacist, irredeemable troglodytes that liberal arts undergraduates must be psychologically and emotionally strengthened to confront when they go home every year to trample on the formerly apolitical joys of Thanksgiving. I’m talking about the military and the police.

At first these would appear inauspicious targets to assault. Largely multi-ethnic, working class, high-school graduate, gun-toting uniform wearers aren’t ripe converts to sponsor a local drag queen story hour or host a Robin DiAngelo book club.

The Great Reset: The Global Elite's Plan to Radically Remake Our Economic and Social Lives

what is the great reset

Brock: The Great Reset is upon us. The latest from Ammo.com talks about the Great Reset in detail: What it is, why the elites are pushing it and what we can do to fight it. There's going to be a lot of talk about the Great Reset in the coming months. People need to be armed with the knowledge they need to protect themselves and their families. To the extent that it is possible, we must make ourselves more resilient. This means owning land, having your own well, a supply of food to weather the storm, adequate supplies of ammunition, useful skills, and close community bonds. It also means sounding the alarm bells about elite propaganda campaigns, legislative maneuvers, and bureaucratic fiats designed to destroy you. Prepare to dig in for a long winter.

The Great Reset is upon us…or at least the powers that be are trying to bring it out. What was once a fringe “conspiracy theory” is now on display plain as day for everyone to see. The economic, political, academic, and media elites around the world are leveraging the chaos, confusion, and restrictions on liberty from the COVID-19 lockdowns and using them to radically alter society around the world.

What will this change look like? The global elites want to create a society of renters who own nothing, while also pushing a social agenda that would be unpopular with the unwashed masses and difficult to implement in a society with a broad, ownership-based middle class. What this means is that you would rent not just your home, but also your phone, computer, car (though you probably will “carshare,” the term for renting a car when you need one for an extended period and summoning one when you need it for a ride), and even the pots and pans you cook with.

Sen. Rand Paul: Mask mandates and lockdowns from petty tyrants? No, not again. Choose freedom

Resist. They can’t arrest us all. They can’t keep all your kids home from school

Resist.

They can’t arrest us all. They can’t keep all your kids home from school. They can’t keep every government building closed – although I’ve got a long list of ones they should.

We don’t have to accept the mandates, lockdowns, and harmful policies of the petty tyrants and feckless bureaucrats. We can simply say no, not again.

Donald J. Trump August 3rd, 2021

Highly respected Army intelligence captain, Seth Keshel, has just released his Report on National Fraud Numbers with respect to the 2020 Presidential Election. I don’t personally know Captain Keshel, but these numbers are overwhelming, election-changing, and according to Keshel, could be even bigger in that they do not account for cyber-flipping of votes. They show I won the election—by A LOT! Now watch the Democrats coalesce, defame, threaten, investigate, jail people, and do whatever they have to do to keep the truth from surfacing, and let the Biden Administration continue to get away with destroying our Country. The irregularities and outright fraud of this election are an open wound to the United States of America. Something must be done—immediately!

The Naval Academy’s ‘Diversity and Inclusion’ Dumb-Down

 Via Hal

Unfortunately, with the Biden White House — which immediately rescinded President Trump’s executive order removing CRT from federal training — and much of the senior military leadership and most of the media supportive of CRT, it will be quite a challenge to root it out of school systems at all levels, most especially the Service Academies. But it absolutely must be removed before it irreparably damages our military’s morale and ability to fight as a team, in which trust is a norm.

With the infusion of Marxist dogma, the Naval Academy is failing to prepare Navy and Marine Corps officers.

As a retired Navy Officer and United States Naval Academy graduate from a class prior to Vice Admiral Sean S. Buck, the Academy’s superintendent, I find myself wondering why he and so many of his high-ranking peers are so intent upon forcing Critical Race Theory and other “woke” dogma into our military members’ “training,” which many unhesitatingly call indoctrination into Marxism.

Unfortunately, during the eight years before President Donald Trump took the Oval Office, most if not all of the flag and general officers who would not support this clearly racist doctrine had been “purged” to make room for those officers who were willing to ignore their oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” An October 2013 editorial in Investor’s Business Daily recounts the names of some of the nearly 200 senior officers purged and offers a very feasible explanation of why.

Atlantic Magazine: Woke University Progressives ‘Broke America’

Students

Americans’ society is being wrecked by the self-centered and status-seeking class of university-trained, woke progressives, according to the Atlantic magazine.

Since 2000, the progressives “have coalesced into an insular, intermarrying Brahmin elite that dominates culture, media, education, and tech [and] Worse, those of us in this class have had a hard time admitting our power, much less using it responsibly,” says the September article by David Brooks, a New York Times columnist who recognizes his own ties to the woke mob.

“Over the past two decades, the rapidly growing economic, cultural, and social power of the bobos [Bohemian Bourgeosie] has generated a global backlash that is growing more and more vicious, deranged, and apocalyptic,” says Brooks.
