Alabama Mayor to New Orleans: We’ll Take Those Confederate Memorials Off Your Hands

Via Billy

Alabama now has a law that protects historical monuments from removal from public grounds. Sign by Gov. Kay Ivey (R-Ala.) at the conclusion of the last legislative session, the Alabama Memorial Preservation Act protects monuments 50 years and older by prohibiting their relocation or removal, while the alteration of monuments less than 50 years old will require the permission of a permanent joint committee on Alabama Monument Protection.

Hanceville Mayor Kenneth Nail has made it known that if New Orleans does not want its Confederate Monuments anymore, his town is willing to find a new home for them.
Over the past month, the city of New Orleans, Louisiana has removed several Confederate memorials from public grounds, leading to many protests and counter-protests at the sites. According to New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, the monuments were removed because they “failed to appropriately reflect the values of diversity and inclusion that make New Orleans strong today.”

Nail wrote Landrieu and told him that he should consider donating the statues to Veterans Memorial Park in Hanceville. According to the Associated Press and The Cullman Times, feedback from Hanceville residents has been overwhelmingly positive.

Understanding Andrew Lytle

A Review of The Southern Vision of Andrew Lytle, by Mark Lucas, Louisiana State University Press, 1987.

Andrew Lytle’s writings comprise a rich and diverse tapestry whose outlines are difficult to bring together. The critic who tackles this varying body of material must become conversant in history, political philosophy, military biography, and literary criticism. Lytle has been feted for achievements in both history and literature; and he has held professorships in both disciplines. The attempt to suggest what Lytle’s achievements mean in various areas in which he ranges can be overpowering. And it is only the patient and learned critic who would undertake such a task.

Mark Lucas in The Southern Vision of Andrew Lytle writes with grace and clarity about Lytle’s accomplishment. His volume unifies Lytle’s achievement as a novelist, Agrarian essayist, biographer, and memoirist under the rubric of “Southern Vision.” This title is evocative in suggesting the organic evolution of Lytle’s writing in the areas of politics, history, religion and literature. Lucas presents Lytle as a prophetic figure whose calling is rooted in the example of Isaiah of Jerusalem, to whom Lucas alludes in estimating Lytle’s career. Lucas seizes on a central tenet of Lytle’s writings-the consistent objection to materialistic idolatry and the attendant loss of spiritual values in various orders of community-political, religious, and blood.

The Deep State attacks President Trump and his associates with accusations of Russian connections impacting the election. It does not matter that there is no proof offered. It does not matter that the man in charge of the investigation is a close friend of Comey. It does not matter that this drumhead trial in the media has no legal basis. What matters to the American people are the charges against Obama, Clinton, Rice and a host of domestic enemies that have not been brought forth. The facts exposed by Wikileaks, the DNC hack, public records and miscarriages of justice have brought no prosecution against these criminals.

But the coup de grace has now taken place: all information regarding their illegal activities have been transferred to the “Obama Library”. This means that they now cannot be seen for five years. So I ask the American people: have you had enough yet?

Canada passed a law Thursday making it illegal to use the wrong gender pronouns. Critics say that Canadians who do not subscribe to progressive gender theory could be accused of hate crimes, jailed, fined, and made to take anti-bias training.

Canada’s Senate passed Bill C-16, which puts “gender identity” and “gender expression” into both the country’s Human Rights Code, as well as the hate crime category of its Criminal Code by a vote of 67-11, according to LifeSiteNews. The bill now only needs royal assent from the governor general.

“Great news,” announced Justin Trudeau, Canada’s prime minister. “Bill C-16 has passed the Senate – making it illegal to discriminate based on gender identity or expression. #LoveisLove.”

Imprimis: The 2016 Election and the Demise of Journalistic Standards

Michael Goodwin

Michael Goodwin is the chief political columnist for The New York Post. He has a B.A. in English literature from Columbia College and has taught at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Before joining the Post in 2009, he was the political columnist for The New York Daily News, where he served as executive editor and editorial page editor and led its editorial board to a Pulitzer Prize. Prior to that, he worked for 16 years at The New York Times, beginning as a clerk and rising to City Hall Bureau Chief. He is the co-author of I, Koch and editor of New York Comes Back.

The following is adapted from a speech delivered on April 20, 2017, in Atlanta, Georgia, at a Hillsdale College National Leadership Seminar.

The behavior of much of the media, but especially The New York Times, was a disgrace. I don’t believe it ever will recover the public trust it squandered.

I’ve been a journalist for a long time. Long enough to know that it wasn’t always like this. There was a time not so long ago when journalists were trusted and admired. We were generally seen as trying to report the news in a fair and straightforward manner. Today, all that has changed. For that, we can blame the 2016 election or, more accurately, how some news organizations chose to cover it. Among the many firsts, last year’s election gave us the gobsmacking revelation that most of the mainstream media puts both thumbs on the scale—that most of what you read, watch, and listen to is distorted by intentional bias and hostility. I have never seen anything like it. Not even close.

"Disappearing Dixie"

Via Nancy

 http://www.ridgehistoricalsociety.org/images/curtteich02.fw.jpg

Like you, l am lucky enough to have an Ancestor that fought for the South.

Like a lot of you, l am a proud member of the SCV.

Like some of you, l am also a member of the Confederate States Allied Europe.

But only l can be the Commander in Chief of the CSA-E, or untill someone deems it necessary to replace me.

I have read many copies of the Confederate Veteran magazine, many members write in about the state of things within the South, BUT, no one has yet written in about any ideas on how to STOP what's happening in Dixie.

So maybe it's down to me, unless you have a better idea....Let's see just how many still have a BACKBONE and know how to use it!

If you only use yours to write, then write something that might do some good....you Americans, this is your Dixie we are talking about here.

If you don't ALL pull together then Dixie will just be a thing of the PAST, so come on, get those backbones into action and DO SOMETHING!

Yesterday l thought my letter was a bit...strong, l actually think that this letter is a lot stronger.

Our Ancestors fought an enemy, so why can't we? Our Ancestors fought a GOOD cause, isn't what's happening now in the South a GOOD cause, a BETTER cause l would say.

Alright you guys, the time has arrived, sound the REBEL YELL and CHARGE into the enemy, it's time to show our Ancestors what we are made of...that we do have a BACKBONE!

A scientific consensus has emerged among top mainstream climate scientists that “skeptics” or “lukewarmers” were not long ago derided for suggesting — there was a nearly two-decade long “hiatus” in global warming that climate models failed to accurately predict or replicate.
A new paper, led by climate scientist Benjamin Santer, adds to the ever-expanding volume of “hiatus” literature embracing popular arguments advanced by skeptics, and even uses satellite temperature datasets to show reduced atmospheric warming.

Conservative cardinals step up pope challenge

Via Billy

Four conservative cardinals who have publicly challenged Pope Francis over his reforms of Catholic Church teaching have published a letter escalating the row.

The red-hatted "Princes of the Church" had sent a first letter to the Argentine pontiff at the end of last year in which they questioned the head of the Roman Catholic Church over his teachings on the family.

The ringleader, American Raymond Burke, publicly warned Francis it may be necessary to make a highly rare "formal act of correction" if he did not answer the letter -- a bold and almost unheard of challenge to the pope's authority.

“It is often the case that police shootings, incidents where law enforcement officers pull the trigger on civilians, are left out of the conversation on gun violence. But a police officer shooting a civilian counts as gun violence. Every time an officer uses a gun against an innocent or an unarmed person contributes to the culture of gun violence in this country.”—Journalist Celisa Calacal
Legally owning a gun in America could get you killed by a government agent.

While it still technically remains legal to own a firearm in America, possessing one can now get you pulled over, searched, arrested, subjected to all manner of surveillance, treated as a suspect without ever having committed a crime, shot at and killed.

This same rule does not apply to government agents, however, who are armed to the hilt and rarely given more than a slap on the wrists for using their weapons to shoot and kill American citizens.
According to the Washington Post, “1 in 13 people killed by guns are killed by police.”

Though our stars tend to rise and fall in opposition through the years, your reputation for adventure, fearlessness and a legendary hunger for more lingers, and for the most part we find that admirable—no, more than that—we find it astonishing.

We may denigrate your American whisky (as well as your tendency to spell it with the Irish ‘e’) as you joke about our pasty faces and reliance upon dentures but we are cousins—if not always kissing—and share a rich common language, culture, customs and cuisine. We are more alike than different in nearly every respect but these: One, we are a constitutional monarchy and Two, despite what you may have heard we really, really envy you your guns.

A St. Louis Circuit Court judge has temporarily stopped the city from removing a controversial Confederate monument from Forest Park.

Last week, the Missouri Civil War Museum contested monument ownership and filed suit on Friday. The museum wants to move the memorial to an undisclosed location.

Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain in 2012 turned over nearly $9 million in unspent funds from his failed 2008 presidential campaign to a new foundation bearing his name, the McCain Institute for International Leadership.

The institute is intended to serve as a “legacy” for McCain and “is dedicated to advancing human rights, dignity, democracy and freedom.” It is a tax-exempt non-profit foundation with assets valued at $8.1 million and associated with Arizona State University.

Conservative and liberal critics, however, believe the institute constitutes a major conflict of interest for McCain, The Daily Caller News Foundation’s Investigative Group has learned.
