Sparks and flames are seen through a destroyed stained glass window as the Notre Dame Cathedral burns in Paris, France, April 15, 2019.

When the world’s most delicate historic sites need expert attention, it’s often the same group at the end of the line: the Compagnons du Devoir.

In 1984, when the Statue of Liberty got a new torch. In 1990, to fix the stately hurricane-damaged homes of Charleston, South Carolina. And now, with its roof in ashy tatters, Notre Dame du Paris.

One of the biggest news items to come out of President Trump's speech at the annual NRA convention on Friday was that he is ending the UN Arms Trade Treaty, signed by President Obama in 2013.

The treaty was purportedly written to prevent arms sales to human rights abusers around the world. But, as Trump described, it did more to "threaten" gun owners' constitutional rights.

"Under my administration, we will never surrender American sovereignty to anyone," he vowed. "We will never allow foreign bureaucrats to trample on your Second Amendment freedom."

The Feds Are Dropping Child Porn Cases Instead of Revealing Info on Their Surveillance Systems

Via Jeffery

Human Rights Watch and other groups say these systems draw serious concerns.

The Department of Justice has been dismissing child pornography cases in order to not reveal information about the software programs used as the basis for the charges.

An array of cases suggest serious problems with the tech tools used by federal authorities. But the private entities who developed these tools won't submit them for independent inspection or hand over hardly any information about how they work, their error rates, or other critical information. As a result, potentially innocent people are being smeared as pedophiles and prosecuted as child porn collectors, while potentially guilty people are going free so these companies can protect "trade secrets."
