Columbia SC, Sam Davis Youth Camp......

......since we are here this week, I thought it appropriate to include this SC article on the NC site.

"It has pleased God......in that Providence which is so inscrutable to man, to visit our beautiful city with the most cruel fate which can ever befall States or cities. He has permitted an invading army to penetrate our country almost without impediment; to rob and ravage our dwellings, and to commit three-fifths of our city to the flames. . . . The schools of learning, the shops of art and trade, of invention and manufacture; shrines equally of religion, benevolence and industry; are all buried together, in one congregated ruin. Humiliation spreads her ashes over our homes and garments, and the universal wreck exhibits only one common aspect of despair. It is for us, as succinctly but as fully as possible, and in the simplest language, to endeavor to make the melancholy record of our wretchedness as complete as possible." The Eighth Toast: To The Confederate Dead Of The University

No eulogy that I could pronounce would increase our respect for the memory of those who died in defence of the "Lost Cause."

No language at my command will excite us to a greater degree of appreciation of the character of the dutiful soldier. No words known to me can have the effect of kindling in our hearts a more ardent love for those whose response to authoritative call for service was so cheerfully and patriotically given.

League of the South Statement of Purpose:

The League of the South seeks to advance the cultural, social, economic and political well-being and independence of the Southern people by all honorable means.

“Political independence is a complex aim that cannot begin to be accomplished without first establishing a mass base; therefore, education, recruitment, and organisation are the primary work of the LS until such time as that mass base is established. Economically, we encourage Southern self-sufficiency, debtlessness, and the purchase of Southern goods and services.
