Gomer Pyle and the Music of Southern Poverty

Sometimes, you need to go halfway around the world in order to make a point, especially if the point to be made is not a simple one.  This is one of those times.  Also, it’s probably past time that I should explain the difference between a Yankee and a Northerner.  “Northerner” is a geographic term that refers to anyone not from the South, and not all Northerners are Yankees.  Many times, Northerners and Southerners alike share the same hallowed American philosophy of “leave me alone and we’ll get along just fine,” and I have a multitude of friends who are Northerners, great people, and trusted confidants.  However, “Yankee” is a conceptual term that applies to anybody who can’t stand for people to live differently from them.  Although it’s true that Yankee thinking is most closely associated with Puritans and New England, you can find it anywhere.  Yankees are threatened by anything alien to them, and their whole life purpose is to conquer and force change on everyone else to conform to their “hive” mentality.  The very fact that someone is out there living happily and differently is totally unacceptable to a Yankee, and it must be stopped.  In Star Trek terms, Yankees are like The Borg, and resistance is futile.

The global trace-and-track regime

                                                                                                 COVID-19 Exposure Notifications

The Biden administration's vaccine passport scheme is just the teeny-tiny tip of a massive privacy invasion iceberg.

A year ago this week, I began chronicling the worldwide weaponization of COVID-19 by big government and big business to trace and track the health data of untold hundreds of millions of human beings. Let's review.

In March 2020, Singapore unleashed a Bluetooth app called "TraceTogether" on Google Play and the Apple Store to track people who tested positive for coronavirus and notify others through their cellphones. For those who argue that participation is completely "voluntary," bear in mind that Singapore functions as a high-tech dictatorship where refusal to comply with stay-at-home orders and refusal to share GPS location data with health bureaucrats are criminal offenses subject to six months' imprisonment and/or a $10,000 fine.

Something isn't quite right about the narrative being pushed by the mainstream media of the dramatic increase of alleged "anti-Asian" violence around the U.S. – so says a spokesperson with a conservative black network.

When 21-year-old Robert Long allegedly killed eight people in the Atlanta area on March 16, the media immediately trumpeted that the shootings at three massage parlors were racially motivated because six of the victims were Asian and he is white. Despite every official source saying there was very likely a completely unrelated motive behind the tragedy, the media's narrative stuck. (See earlier related story)

Supreme Court - Extremely Corrupt: Refuses to Force Hillary Clinton to Face Deposition Over Her Personal Email Server

It appears swamp protects swamp, as usual.

On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court stated Hillary Clinton wouldn’t be forced to testify over her criminal behavior while Secretary of State in the Obama Administration.

Judicial Watch wanted to depose Clinton and other U.S. State Department employees for her use of the infamous personal email server.

Supreme Court justices denied the appeal to let Clinton off the hook once and for all over the classified documents and vast corruption tied to the server.

Despite the evidence, Hillary will once again get away scot free for her crimes.

And the double standard of the U.S. court system is beyond disgusting.

John C. Calhoun: American

No American is more vilified than John C. Calhoun. A recent biography has labeled him the American “heretic,” and it has become fashionable to blame every political problem in American on this long deceased statesman. Is this true or fair? Calhoun was well respected during his lifetime and served in almost every important position in the United States government. He also had much to say about American politics and the Constitution. Every American on both the left and right could learn from Calhoun. Brion McClanahan defends Calhoun and his legacy in this short video.

The Post-Marxist Left’s Race Problem

"From a right-wing perspective, the left’s division over race is all very good news. As long as the post-Marxist left ignores the reality of class discrimination, its parties will continue to bleed working class voters to the right."

A recurrent theme in Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States (1980) is how the prospect of a coalition between poor blacks and poor whites has often struck fear in the hearts of the wealthy classes in American history. Not surprisingly, Zinn longed for the emergence of an interracial coalition that, in his view, would bring about a more humane and just America for all. As a traditional Marxist, he equated injustice with class oppression and justice with socialism.

Such an interracial coalition had emerged for a short time in conjunction with the populist movement of the late 19th century. Today, we may be witnessing the emergence of another such alliance—ironically, perhaps, on the populist right—in part because the left has largely abandoned Marxist concerns with class struggle.

In a chapter on the prevalence of racism in pre-revolutionary America, Zinn writes:

When you lose your 2nd amendment Rights. Remember you asked for it.

When the federal government takes on trillions in debt to bailout Democrat states and cities suffering from decades of mismanagement and corruption. It will be call pandemic relief or some such thing. Remember you asked for it.

When they expand the size of the Supreme Court and fill those seats with young progressive judges. So their actions will forever be declared legal. Remember you asked for it.

Beginning with History

Any fool can write history, and many do.  Please do not assume that I mean by this statement to vaunt the “expert” and slight the amateur.  In writing history the amateur is sometimes gifted, and there is no more pestiferous fool than the smug, pretentious “expert” who thinks of his own mind as the repository of ultimate truth.  What a good historian most needs is not “expertise” but the qualities we look for in a juror: intelligence and an inclination to avoid snap judgments and get to the bottom of things, to weigh evidence honestly, and to imagine times and places that are no longer recoverable in the flesh.  No juror can entirely escape his own bias, but some are a lot more honest and fair than others.

Democrats on Collision Course with Reality: The Political Radicalization of the American Military

Max Anders | It's 1776 All Over Again!

Under the charge of newly appointed Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, the Biden-Harris oligarchy is pursuing an ideological and political transformation of our Armed Forces that is on a collision course with reality. Viable national security must be based on principles that are based on known or learned realities. Instead, we are charging into the delusionary upside-down   misgovernment of Lewis Carroll’s Queen of Hearts in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

Leftist ideologies typically blind their adherents to reality. Furthermore, Leftist enforcement of ideologies that contradict reality and therefore don’t work tends to force them to ruthless coercion and violence.

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”—George Orwell, 1984

Victor Davis Hanson makes the point in his 2017 book, The Second World Wars: How the First Global Conflict Was Fought and Won, and his lectures, that war is the ultimate test of military realities—what works and what does not. These realities apply both to what is successful in conducting and ending wars but also what is successful in deterring wars. Military realities include geography, natural resources, and the means of defense and offense—weapons,   transportation, and logistical technologies and systems, and, of course, manpower and leadership.

Hanson also points out another classical military dictum: “the winning side is the one that most rapidly learns from its mistakes, makes the necessary corrections, and most swiftly responds to new challenges.”

The bill’s $1400 individual stimulus relief is barely in Americans’ bank accounts, but the Biden administration says it wants further stimulus payments, as well as increased funding for healthcare and education — two industries that received major handouts in the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.

What Is Magnum Ammo?

Ammunition can be confusing. It even confounds the experts on occasion. Take the term “magnum ammo,” for instance. Nothing clearly defines the parameters of a magnum cartridge, and no one, including the NSSF, regulates the term.

The word “magnum” didn’t apply to ammunition initially. It’s an old Latin word that means “large, great, or important.” That ancient definition is still applicable in describing modern magnum ammunition. Simply put, magnum ammo contains extra propellant compared to a standard cartridge of similar size.

Last weekend I found my way down to Grundy County. I realized I had passed through the area, but never stopped for a visit. The area around Monteagle was reminiscent of Pigeon Forge in the 1960s. I stayed at The Smoke House Lodge and Cabins, which was a nice place if you like that rustic, hickory smoke, woodsy, black bear feeling. They have a big restaurant and country store. Thinking I was famished, I took advantage of the buffet which had a big pot of beef stew and giant iron skillet of cornbread on a wood stove. I had to “sample” the catfish, fried chicken, and BBQ, you know, so I could give an honest recommendation. The food was awesome! They had live music, which was okay, but since I knew over half the folks there, it was hard to “visit” over the noise.

Ever since House Resolution 1, the Democrats’ 886-page partisan wish list of a voting bill, passed the House on a party-line vote earlier this month, its critics have had a lot to say. All of this is apparent from the text of the bill.

After Sixty Days Biden Is Drifting Into Surrealism

....Trump killed the corrupt bipartisan regime by which the Democrats harvested the votes of these millions of unlawful residents and Republican employers exploited their legal vulnerability by chronically underpaying them. The Democrats now are in the business of reestablishing it.

After 60 days of the new administration, American government has descended into surrealism. The secretary of homeland security, Alejandro Mayorkas, blandly assured the Sunday television news programs that “the border is closed,” and that unauthorized and inappropriate entry-seekers are normally turned away. This is clearly a monstrous falsehood and the docile Democratic-boot-licking press knows it to be false.

This ludicrous and tragic charade on the southern border is half of the current administration’s vast and pointless game of pretense, in which it denies the existence of one immense crisis, while grimly and tediously proclaiming the iron duration of another crisis that has in fact, largely passed.

NC: Confederate monument getting permanent steel fence from county

 Via Allen

Alamance News

A miniature backhoe was working last week at the base of the Confederate monument that guards the northern approach to Alamance County’s historic courthouse.

The county authorized the flower bed’s destruction as it prepares to install a permanent steel fence to replace the portable barricades that it has used to protect the century-old monument from would-be vandals, including any who show up as protesters.

A proposed design for the fence, which was originally submitted to Graham’s historic resources commission in August, appears to have received the commission’s approval in February.

Installation of the fence is expected as soon as next week.

Southern Reflections on Being Neighborly

I bid you take thought of your honor and heritage as a Southerner. To value pleasure and possessions and self more than the exercise of neighborly virtue and community is, to be quite blunt, a Yankee way of thinking and acting.

A white house sits on the outskirts of a small town in upstate South Carolina. It is modest in both size and appearance, and rather old, and in front of it next to the highway is a large cross which appears to have taken some money and effort to erect. There is a sign which invites any passerby to stop and kneel at the cross to pray, particularly for the good of the nation. This house is remarkable for the contrast it presents to so many other houses in these parts. Many a house sits guarded by a gate and fence, dogs, and a platoon of signs bearing the stern warnings of NO TRESPASSING, KEEP OUT, BEWARE OF DOG, and the like. In many cases this makes for a real eyesore, but, more importantly, it suggests something about the attitudes of the householders in question, as does the former householder’s cross.

Here's why America's going the way of Venezuela

https://www.wnd.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Siging-of-the-Constitution.jpg

A growing number of Americans, it seems, are surprised at how fast we are descending from a free and liberty-loving society to one that gives every appearance of emulating any one of many failed socialist/communist states.

But still most cling to the idea that this can never happen here – right? Of course not – although, for example, not too long ago Venezuela was one of the most prosperous nations on Earth. But hey – as the saying goes – they just haven't done socialism/communism right. Seems no one has.

For years we conservatives complained about Obama – that he was a lawless president, he was despotic, that we've never seen anyone like him. How did he ever get elected?

Minute and repetitive questions about the dire border conditions were funneled into a series of responses based on the alleged inhumanity of the previous administration and scrupulously ignored President Trump’s achievement in reducing illegal southern border entries by almost 90%.

President Joe Biden’s first news conference was the high point of his administration to date; he was fluent, good-humored, well-informed, and only slightly bobbled one or two questions and not in a way that surpassed the confusion deliberately created by Dwight D. Eisenhower’s complicated syntax or Lyndon Johnson’s Texan colloquialisms.

He was well-rehearsed to take predictable questions on the Democrats’ soft-points and respond with articulate answers that had almost nothing to do with the real issue. Less reassuringly, he read from briefing notes at length in a manner that brazenly advertised the pre-selection of questionnaires, questions, and generally windy and evasive answers.

Robert E. Lee and Me by Ty Seidule, Part Two, Conclusion, of the Review, by Gene Kizer, Jr.

 https://assets.entrepreneur.com/slideshow/robert-e-lee.jpg

But the simplistic Seidule characterizes Southern secession like the fake news media characterizes those who have serious concerns about the integrity of the 2020 election. Seidule writes:

Unwilling to accept the results of a fair, democratic election, they illegally seized U. S. territory, violently.

The truth of the 2020 election will come out eventually but there are certainly an enormous number of legitimate concerns that call into account Seidule's description of a "fair, democratic election" in 2020. The Texas law suit which was joined by 20 other states, lays out legion legitimate issues of corruption and constitutional violations that have never been adjudicated by a court. The Navarro Report also goes into great detail. Anybody with a brain knows that when mail in voting jumps from 5% to 35% at the same time that signature verification standards are lowered or dropped, it is a formula for disaster.

************************

A number of good historians have written reviews recently of Ty Seidule's book, Robert E. Lee and Me, including historian Phil Leigh who produced the video, Robert E. Lee and (Woke General) Please Like Me. Leigh also wrote a good article, Robert E. Lee and Ty Seidule.

All of these reviews note that the tone of Robert E. Lee and Me is a desperate plea by Seidule for academia to "please PLEASE like me!" Academia is Seidule's new home. He has gone from the United States Military Academy at West Point, to Hamilton College in Clinton, New York.1

Our Other Man in Charleston

Published in 2016, the book Our Man in Charleston tells the story of Robert Bunch (1820-1881), the British consul in Charleston, South Carolina, who is described in the subtitle as “Britain’s Secret Agent.”Bunch was not, for the most part, a secret agent, but he did somewhat covertly keep his government informed about conditions and developments in South Carolina. In correspondence with British authorities, he offered his opinions and observations about the Palmetto State and the South at large during the developing sectional crisis in the 1850s and into the war years, until he was removed from his post in 1863. Bunch, a fervent abolitionist, was convinced that the South desired to reopen the international slave trade, and used this argument in an attempt to influence the British government against formal recognition of the Confederate States of America. Although the Confederate constitution, in Article I, Section 9, Clause 1, expressly prohibited the international slave trade, the anti-Southern Bunch believed and reported this prohibition to be “legally ephemeral” and even “unenforceable.” However, the constitution of the Confederate States of America expressly delegated this power of prohibition to the Confederate government, not the states, and the document emphasized that the Confederate Congress was required to pass laws preventing the foreign trade.

Follow the “Science,” They Said

As a general rule, the next time an official, a politician, or an expert lectures us on the “science,” make sure that he is not projecting his own unscientific biases onto others.

Throughout the Trump years and in particular during the 2020 COVID pandemic crisis, the nation was lectured by the Left “to follow the data,” as the Democrats proclaimed themselves the “party of science.” As sober and judicious children of the enlightenment, they alone offered the necessary disinterested correctives to Trump’s supposed bluster and exaggeration—and to his anti-scientific deplorable following (often dismissed by Biden as dregs, chumps, and Neanderthals).

In truth, leftists and Democrats have become the purveyors of superstition. Their creation of a fantasy world is not because they do not believe in science per se, but because they believe more in the primacy of ideology that should shape and warp science in the proper fashion for the greater good. What prompted Paul Ehrlich, Al Gore, or Representative Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) hysterically and wrongly to forecast widespread demographic or climatological catastrophe in just a few years was not ignorance of science per se, but a desire to massage science for our own good.

NOMADLAND

I was about a third of the way through Choe Zhao’s (The Rider, Songs My Brothers Taught Me) meditative movie Nomadland when I began to fully realize its brilliance. This is a “small” film (budget: $5 million) but carries the heart, production values, and the quality of a drama with a much bigger production budget. It also carries a universal message of respecting the dignity of all humans and the voluntary choices they make, no matter how far outside the mainstream they may be.

Cancel Public School

If we took the future of the nation seriously, we would end public schools tomorrow. We would then take our young children, sit them down with the first and simplest of McGuffey’s English textbooks from the 1880s, and teach them to read.

A friend who volunteers at a Sunday school in Harlem for low-income children called me the other day, greatly upset: She had been working with a pair of students who failed to learn the assigned reading, which was a short psalm or a prayer. She thought perhaps the fourth graders, a boy and a girl, weren’t applying themselves. The truth was much worse: The two children turned out to be illiterate.

Their public school teachers had passed them, grade by grade, into the fourth, and no one had ever taught them how to sound out words. Their teachers graded spelling tests and assignments—they knew they were passing kids who couldn’t read.

North Carolina State Legislature Introduces Bill To Ban Biological Males From Women’s Sports

                                                                                       LGBT Rights North Carolina

Twenty-six state legislatures have introduced 41 bills in the first two months of 2021 that would prohibit transgender students from participating on teams that do not correspond with their biological sex, according to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

The North Carolina General Assembly introduced a bill earlier this week that would ban biological males from participating in women’s sports at schools.

The Save Women’s Sports Act, or House Bill 358, which was filed by North Carolina state Reps. Mark Brody, Pat McElraft, Diane Wheatley, and Jimmy Dixon on Monday, endeavors “to ensure that women are not forced to compete against men playing on women’s sports teams.”

The last time or two that my home alarm system repairman was here, we were talking about Operation Paperclip, the secret, illegal ploy used to spirit Nazi scientists from facing charges at the Nuremburg Trials and bring them to the United States. Yesterday, he sent me a video of author Annie Jacobsen (an excellent writer, researcher and New York Times bestseller), giving a presentation on her new book Operation Paperclip.

I watched Jacobsen’s talk and was bowled over by a statement she made in responding to a question from the audience. A gentleman asked about the scientists who were being held for the Nuremburg Trials, but were wanted by U.S. military and government officials to get these scientists brought to the US as “good scientists” i.e., not evil Nazis, instead of being tried for their war crimes. Jacobsen noted (not making excuses for the subterfuge of getting the scientists “off the hook“), that the hue and cry immediately after the war ended was  “. . .that the Soviet threat was considered extreme much earlier than we think. It was in the months after the war the Intelligence Committee, that reported to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, gave a document to the JCO that said, ‘we must prepare for total war!’ That was the quote they used. The war would be with the Soviets and would involve ABC warfare – atomic, biological, and chemical. So, we say, we must get these scientists into Paperclip or the Soviets will.”

That was the political line if people heard about these scientists. Was it true? Were we really preparing for “total war” with the U.S.S.R?

Let’s get into that.

      The Mathematics of Countering Tyranny

Re-post 2018

Introductory Proviso: The following essay on possible gun confiscation is a purely conjectural gedankenexperiment about the future that extrapolates from recent history and current trends. Nothing herein is seditious (per 18 U.S. Code § 2384), nor a call to arms, nor a threat to our government or to any individual, agency, or group.

The Collectivist Dream

The current mass media-driven “debate” on firearms (actually more like paternalistic lecturing or chiding) seems to be leading toward greater restrictions by Congress. The collectivist gun grabbers have the dream of ignoring the Second Amendment and somehow magically removing all detachable magazine semi-auto rifles from civilian hands. But it is just that: a dream. If they think that they can disarm us, then they are thoroughly deluded.  I’ll explain why, with some simple mathematics.

American Education: Child Indoctrination, Struggle Sessions and Debt Slavery

Brock: "Just wanted to reach out and share the latest and greatest at Ammo.com with you. It's called "American Education: Child Indoctrination, Struggle Sessions and Debt Slavery." It's a comprehensive exploration of how public schools indoctrinate children in leftist ideology from Kindergarten on up and how student loans drive this indoctrination process. You can check it out here, and as always, I'd greatly appreciate you sharing it with your audience: https://ammo.com/articles/american-education-child-indoctrination-debt-slavery Thanks!"~~SamAmmo.com

Seemingly overnight, a large segment of America has gone insane. We’re not talking about the culture of paranoia and safety that has metastasized in the wake of COVID-19 hysteria. We’re talking about the ideological shift, particularly on cultural issues, that has occurred since the start of the Obama Administration.

To pick an easy example, it would have been fairly uncontroversial even five years ago to say that men should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports, regardless of what they might subjectively “identify as.” And yet, this is now a subject contention across a number of sports, including mixed martial arts and powerlifting. What’s more, having the wrong opinion and expressing it publicly might make you the subject of a public shaming, up to and including losing your job and being de facto blacklisted from your industry.

Michigan county scraps Dominion voting machines, will count all primary ballots by hand

Do you still support President Trump?

Via John "Given the machine vote counting shenanigans of 2020, all future elections should be hand-counts only. Without honest elections, we cannot have a country anymore.  It is no more complicated than that. There need to be improvements made in our election process prior to the 2022 midterms. Our voting laws are already the laughing stock of the international community.......but it is no laughing mater at all."

Antrim County, Michigan, may be a small county, but it received a ton of press attention following the November election due to tabulation errors that President Trump and his allies believed were due to faulty voting machine software — Trump was attacked for the position, but it turns out that he may have been right all along.

Now, several months later, Antrim County commissioners have rejected a request to use Dominion voting machines, choosing instead to count all ballots by hand, to prevent future voting irregularities in the county during the 2020 presidential election.

These Rare Paintings Depict Life in Vietnam in the 17th and 18th Centuries

I prefer the ones at Watercolor World

Watercolor World Now we can envision Vietnam well before the advent of photography.

The website Watercolour World has shared a collection of centuries-old watercolors depicting different aspects of Vietnamese culture, as well of different landscapes of what was then not even called Vietnam.

At this point we're all familiar with photography from the 1960s and 1970s from the many foreign military service members who trained their lenses on local life when they were in the country. There is even a fair amount of work from the early 20th century to observe, though largely taken through the viewpoint of French colonists.

Going farther back, we often have to rely on the written word — which is great, of course: this website wouldn't exist were it not for words. These watercolors, then, are a rare peek into what is today Vietnam as far back as the 17th century, which might as well be another planet compared to what we see today.
