Blacks On Reservations

After his release from Fort Warren in October 1865, former Confederate Vice President Alexander Stephens met with President Andrew Johnson in Washington. Here he found that the Northern hatred for the black race, after their use as soldiers in blue to save the lives of white Northerners, could lead to their removal to reservations as a logical conclusion to the “free soil” platform of the prewar Republican party.

Blacks On Reservations:

“The President came in. We held an interview of about an hour and a half. He directed his secretary to leave us, and we had the interview to ourselves. I gave him my own views very fully and freely upon the subject of Negro suffrage. I told him the adjustment of that question belonged exclusively to the States separately, but in my judgment the States ought not to exclude the blacks entirely from the polls. As things are, I thought the principle should be established of allowing the franchise to such members of the black race as could come up to a proper standard of mental and moral culture with the possession of a specified amount of property. Such an arrangement would be right in duty.

Our talk was civil and agreeable. My inference from the conversation was that his policy was to have the Negroes, as soon as possible, removed from the country as the Indians were. He was very evidently desirous to have the proposed [Thirteenth] Amendment to the Constitution of the U.S. adopted by the South [abolishing slavery]. I could see no purpose for this but the ultimate removal under this Amendment of the Negroes by Congress.”

Hiding A Depression: How The US Government Does It

ariticial employment

The real US unemployment rate is not 9.8% but between 25% and 30%. That is a depression level of job losses - so why doesn't it look like a depression for many people? How can so large of a statistical discrepancy exist, and how is it that holiday shopping malls are so crowded in a depression?

The true devastation is hidden by essentially placing the job losses inside three different "boxes": the official unemployment box, the true full unemployment box, and most importantly, the staggering and persistent private sector job loss box that has been temporarily covered over by a fantastic level of governmental deficit spending. The "recovering and out of the recession" cover story is only plausible when nobody connects the dots and adds all the boxes together.

Slavery: THE Cause Of The War?

Slavery

Sir,

I have been following the dialogue in SHNV. I disagree that "all scholarly research" states that slavery was the main issue. I do believe that there is other "scholarly" research that indicates otherwise. The inference from your statement is that if the research indicates otherwise it is not "scholarly.

I also would assume that cultural differences (most of don't care for Yankees and certainly not being ruled by them), The fact that Lincoln got not one electoral vote from the South, and that fact that the South was paying over 80% of the Federal till were not good enough causes for secession. Would you then have an opinion on what would be a good enough cause for secession?
I would also point out the the "all about slavery"TM implies that there is a definite ability somehow to answer the question of what this war was fought. Could also that ability be used to answer why we are in Iraq, Afghanistan and hundreds of other countries in the world?

I believe it is as important to look at the effects of wars as the causes. I would argue that the North's onslaught of the South was the first in many rounds of imperialistic warmongering. That by devastating the South, forcing her into a "union" with blood, this country was made large enough to wage war on the world. I would think that most "scholarly research" would indicate that America today is ruled by the heirs of Lincoln, not Thomas Jefferson or Jefferson Davis. If you like the passing of unread bills, federal bailouts, bribes, and corruption, then you have to love the way the War of 1861-65 turned out.

So, if slavery is the major cause of the war, was it worth it?

Happy New Year,

David Ware

Fort Pulaski Commemorates The Tyrant Lincoln's War

“The contest is really for empire on the side of the North, and for independence on that of the South, and in this respect we recognize an exact analogy between the North and the Government of George III, and the South and the Thirteen Revolted Provinces. These opinions . . . are the general opinions of the English nation.”
— London Times, Nov. 7, 1861

".........WSAV mentions that the fort was only occupied for a few months — it was actually held by Confederate forces from January 3, 1861, to April 11, 1862."

I don't have any to view, but they still stick it down to make sure nothing is new. I ran across this by accident, and lo and behold, it is from Warrenton, Fauquier County, Mosby Country, Northern Virginia where I grew up. I, unfortunately, am familiar with the hospital due to a miscarriage by my wife and pneumonia contracted by me from painting my '69 Ford Galaxie. I had an older, black friend who had painted cars all his life without a mask and didn't think to tell me that I should wear one, so my $4.00 paint job, thanks to the free use of his paint gun and guidance by my friend, turned into a two week stay at the hospital for $500.00! I could have gotten an Earl Schieb one then for $19.95, but was trying to save money.:)

Can You Hear Me Now?

Boy, does he get going on this one!:)

L-R: Dr. Michael Beitler, Michael C. Tuggle, Dr. Tom Minsel

Join us for a day of provocative analysis of North Carolina’s political system, an important part of our daily lives no matter what happens in Washington City. Our keynote speaker will be free market proponent and former US Congressional candidate Dr. Mike Beitler of Greensboro. He is the author of “Rational Individualism” and “Strategic Organizational Change,” and will be presenting his views on North Carolina’s political system and limited ballot access for non-mainstream candidates.

League of the South Board member, author and LS REBELLION! blogger Michael C. Tuggle will speak on “Short Circuiting the System,” a unique do-it-yourself political guide for Tarheel voters seeking better results at the polls. Mr. Tuggle is past State Chair of the NC LS and author of “Confederates in the Boardroom” and he will have copies of his books to personally sign.

Dr. Tom Minsel, Director of the NMI, will present “November 2010: Catch 22” an analysis of poll data results and the systemic problem built into our State political "system.” He will ably demonstrate how the State needs to take the lead in national politics and why the League of the South offers the only solution to our national plight. We expect a third speaker on the same topic and are in negotiations with a well-known political analyst from Charlotte.

Mark your calendars for February 12th. Members are expected, guests are always welcome.

What The Traditional South Wants And Doesn't Want:
A Statement To The Rest Of The World

As the only extant Southern Nationalist organization, The League of the South has taken upon itself the responsibility of speaking for the Traditional South. Someone else will have to speak for the New South; we want no part of it.

What we want:

To live in peace with the rest of the world, if possible;

To engage in fair trade with Europe, Asia, Latin America, and other emerging world markets;

To avoid entangling political and military alliances with all other nations;

To return to a sound currency and to re-establish a solid manufacturing base in the Southern States;

To help Southerners become freeholders by the ownership of family farms and small businesses;

To halt illegal immigration completely;

To protect our natural environment from the effects of over-population and irresponsible business practices;

To eschew aggressive war as a means of foreign policy, especially in the volatile Middle East;

To preserve the South for Southerners by establishing a Southern constitutional republic based on historic Christian principles and mores;

To withdraw from all international bodies which threaten national sovereignty;

To oppose globalization and the elite class that profits from it;

To destroy the Establishment’s political stranglehold by the Republican and Democrat parties.

What we don’t want:

To engage in “perpetual war for perpetual peace” nor witness the shedding of any more Southern blood for the advancement of the Empire;

To rule the world by spreading global capitalism and global democracy;

To engage in unfair trade practices with other nations, either through so-called “free trade” agreements or the establishment of protective tariffs;

To extend “most favored nation” status to any country;

To force the “Southern way” on any other people anywhere in the world;

To continue the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq or to go to war with Iran;

To go to war against any nation except in self defense;

To continue the outsourcing of Southern jobs to other countries with lower wages;

To continue to live in the godless, multicultural American Empire.
