Senate Close to Halting Childs Rights Convention

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends:

Yesterday afternoon in the U.S. Senate, Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) introduced SR 99, a resolution opposing ratification of the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). Joining him are 28 original cosponsors, and two more senators signed up with his office last night.

This means SR 99 already has 31 of the 34 senators needed to prevent ratification of this dangerous treaty for the rest of this Congress.

Please take a moment to see if your senators are already on board. If not, their D.C. phone number is provided. Please call and ask them to contact Senator DeMint and cosponsor SR 99. Please don’t be harsh—assume they just haven’t heard yet and you are calling their attention to this new resolution.

Last year, we fell just short of having the votes needed to stop the CRC. We need to redouble our efforts now.

Texas: New Black Panther Leader Justifies Gang Rape of 11-Year-Old Hispanic Girl

"Racial divisions have surfaced in the town of Cleveland, 40 miles north of Houston, ever since last Thanksgiving's alleged gang rape of an 11-year old Hispanic girl.

Most of the 17 suspects accused of sexually assaulting the preteen girl are black. And on Thursday night, community activist Quanell X hosted a rally there."

Rep. Allen West slams military diversity report

"In an interview with The Daily Caller, West, who is black, was not pleased with the report, saying that the military is not a social experiment for outside groups to impose their theories. Rather, he said, it is a merit based organization where anybody can succeed.

“Everyone that comes into the military has an equal opportunity to get promoted to the next level. It is not about outside entities trying to engineer and design results and outcomes or create a sense of equal achievement and when some military diversity group writes a report saying there are too many white men on top,” West said. “It is kind of a slap in the face to those who have risen through the ranks such as four star General [Lloyd] Austin, [General] Kip Ward, many others. We don’t need these outside entities trying to design or shape a military.”

West continued by noting that many confuse privileges with rights. To West, it is a privilege to serve in the military. He also said it is not an institution with which outsiders should tinker, especially while engaged in conflicts abroad."
