Gatson said his internship has challenged his perceptions as a Northerner.

"From my experience, you come in with an open mind, but you have a set idea of what you'll see," he said. But in reading the letters and other documents, "you learn that everything is much more complex than meets the eye."

"Why I Was Arrested Yesterday at a D.C. Taxi Commission Meeting"

Via California Tree of Liberty

Yesterday, Jim Epstein of Reason TV and I were arrested at a public meeting of the D.C. Taxicab Commission (DCTC). The meeting was held at the U.S. Park Police headquarters. Somehow, Park Police officers got roped into becoming the DCTC’s armed security and both Epstein and I have been charged by the Park Police with “Unlawful Entry/Remaining” and “Disorderly Conduct.” Our “crime”? Taking pictures or video.

Less than an hour into the public meeting, a hack (taxi) inspector – with “K. Bears #17″ written on his shirt – told me I couldn’t take pictures. He stood in my way to ensure that I didn’t photograph the DCTC commissioners on the dais. I settled on taking a photo of him instead. Not long after, things went haywire.

“I am troubled by actions taken by the [DCTC],” wrote Ward 6 Councilmember Tommy Wells in a strongly worded letter to Attorney General Irvin Nathan. “While the details are unclear, following a request of DCTC members or staff, two armed Park Police officers entered the auditorium, put a reporter in handcuffs, and removed him from the room. This was reportedly for taking photographs or making a video recording of the proceedings at an open and public meeting.”

As I sat in the front row recording the testimony of Jim Dickson of the American Association of People with Disabilities, two Park Police officers approached me. “You can come with me or you can get locked up,” said one.

“You cannot stop a reporter from [recording]. That’s outrageous,” responded Dickson. Despite the protests of the approximately 200 people in attendance, I was hauled away. Washington Post columnist John Kelly, who was present, wrote, “suddenly, a clot of Park Police officers frogmarched Tucker out of the auditorium.” Epstein caught it all on video, which led to his being placed in the jail cell next to me.

The overwhelming response of the other meeting attendees in support of the reporters’ actions and in protest of the actions of the officers shows that Americans from all walks of life are beginning to wake up to the tyranny being forced upon us by the state and its minions.

The New Flight Deck of the C-5M

2011 PARIS AIR SHOW — Here’s a panorama of the glass cockpit of the C-5M Super Galaxy here. You can clearly see the upgraded flight displays and some of the improved navigator’s station on the right side of the flight deck behind the pilots’ seating.

Pardon the akward angles as I shot the rear of the flight deck (and sorry to the anonymous airman who poked his head in to ask a question.) I was shooting from the middle seat between the pilot and co-pilot’s seats and I seem to have overwhelmed Photosyth with the angles I was shooting.

"Tell It Your Way"

Very short. Worth the watch.

This summer, Philips and director/producer Ridley Scott launched a global filmmaking competition dubbed “Tell It Your Way” following its Cannes Lions award-winning short-film project “Parallel Lines.” The entrants were given freedom of expression and could take up any theme they wanted. There were two strict rules—

(1) The dialogue could be precisely six-lines (as it was in the ‘Parallel Lines’ films), and

(2) entries could not exceed three minutes.

Here's the prize-winning entry in Philips' "Tell It Your Way" competition.

Time magazine cover features shredded U.S. Constitution, asks if it still matters

Via Angry White Dude

Provocative? Perhaps, but that’s nothing new for Time magazine with a history of taking iconic American symbols and using them to make political statements.

On Thursday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Time magazine editor Richard Stengel presented the cover of his new July 4 issue, which features the U.S. Constitution going through a paper shredder and asks does the document still matter. According to Stengel, it does, but not as much anymore.

“Yes, of course it still matters but in some ways it matters less than people think.......
