Confederate Independence and the Lure of Profit

The American Confederacy could have won foreign recognition and independence by taking proffered loans from European capitalists – in the very same manner that American capitalists who extended loans to England and France in the early years of World War One would clamor for eventual US intervention to save their investments.

Confederate Independence and the Lure of Profit:

“When the South went in [to the war], she had no government but had to form one. It had not a soldier but had to call out an army, clothe, arm, and discipline it. It had no treasury and not a dollar to put in it. It was without factories to make munitions or arms and without adequate facilities to clothe or feed the troops, for we had relied for years upon the North for manufactured articles and upon the northwest for meat and corn and flour.

[The] Confederate Government….persistently refused, in the summer of 1861, to negotiate a loan of six hundred millions of dollars which was tendered by capitalists in Europe, and President Davis gave positive instructions that in no event should more than $15,000,000 be accepted.

If the loan had been taken, of the magnitude offered, the Confederacy would early have been supplied with ammunition, arms, provisions, and a navy, and the blockade later, to which we owed our defeat, would have been impossible. It is quite clear that it was the failure of Confederate officials to take this step of preparedness, even at that late date, which rendered vain the valor of our troops and the genius of our generals.

Indeed, aside from the preparedness which we could even then had made, the European governments would have intervened, if necessary, to have preserved the investment of their capitalists in the $600,000,000 loan which would have been taken if secured on cotton.”

Beleaguered Rush advertiser: This is not a boycott, it’s an organized terrorist attack!

MSCO CEO Mark Stevens told Varney and Company about the campaign against his company to stop him from advertising with Rush Limbaugh. He emphatically says that the story isn’t getting out, that this isn’t a boycott, but rather an organized terrorist action.

He describes emails from people telling him that his company is now under constant surveillance, that they are watching every move he makes. His employees, even female employees, are getting emails calling them woman haters.

U.S. President NOT Commander in Chief Until Congress Calls Him?

Everyone assumes as soon as a new U.S. president is sworn into office that they automatically become Commander in Chief of all of America’s . This is NOT true according to the .

Article 2, Section 2 of the Constitution of the United States says,

“The shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States.”

The key phrase in this is “when called into actual Service of the United States.” So the question then lies in what does it mean “when called into Service?” To get our answer, we must look to Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution of the United States which states,

“The shall have Power…

To declare War…

To raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years;

To provide and maintain a Navy;

To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces;

To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;

To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress”

As I read the Constitution, Congress has the authority over the military and only Congress can declare . That also means that Congress is the body of government that calls the president to become Commander in Chief. Until that time comes, the president has no vital role in the military and its use.

Facts erased from schoolbooks

Who perpetrated the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 – a group of men merely fighting “for a cause,” or a band of radical Muslims bent on violent jihad?

According to a new, comprehensive study of 6th-12th grade textbooks used by schools across the country, America’s children are being taught a very different answer to that question than many alive to witness 9/11 remember.

The non-profit organization ACT! for America Education studied 38 textbooks from popular publishers like McGraw Hill and Houghton Mifflin, for example, to determine whether American schoolchildren are being taught the truth about Islam and its role in 9/11.

The report, titled “Education or Indoctrination? The Treatment of Islam in 6th through 12th Grade American Textbooks,” compares what it found in the textbooks with 275 historical sources, listing 375 footnoted citations, to conclude that America’s textbooks are laced with “historical revisionism.”

“This report shines a bright light on a pattern of errors, omissions and bias in the textbooks reviewed,” explained ACT! for America Education founder Brigitte Gabriel in an email. “To give you just one example of the errors our research uncovered, in discussing the 9/11 attacks, the textbooks typically fail to mention the perpetrators were Muslims or that they acted in the cause of Islamic jihad. In one book the terrorists are portrayed as people fighting for a cause.

Ted Nugent: Holder Promotes Outrageous Lie to ‘Brainwash’ People Against Guns

Conservative rocker and gun enthusiast Ted Nugent denounced U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder’s “outrageous lie” in encouraging fellow Democrats to “brainwash people into thinking about guns in a vastly different way” to turn them against guns with the same tactics used against smoking.

“Eric Holder's call for brainwashing America about guns comes as no surprise to anyone paying attention to this administration,” Nugent, a member of the board of directors of the National Rifle Association, told Newsmax exclusively on Monday.

'Racial Discrepancy' Madness Spreads

Via Looking in the Mirror

I recently suggested that our secretary of education, Arne Duncan, had his brain hacked by enemies of the United States. As proof I offered his bizarre reaction to a report recounting racial discrepancies in school discipline. I argued, for example, that forcibly equalizing discipline across racial lines would devastate racially mixed schools, with the biggest losers being decent African-American students, who typically lack a safer school option.

The capturing of brains may be worse than I initially suspected. A PBS Newshour show also took up how blacks were being disproportionally punished. The host (Jeffrey Brown) interviewed two distinguished educators. Christopher Edley is dean of Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law and co-chair of the U.S. Department of Education's Equity and Excellence Commission, and Chester Finn is the president of the Fordham Institute, a well-regarded conservative think-tank that covers K-12 education (Finn also served in the Reagan administration).

Let me summarize how these experts, including a bona-fide conservative, view racial discrepancies in school discipline.

Taking a "civil rights perspective," Dean Edley implied that where there is smoke, there's fire -- these statistics reflect racial discrimination. More important, these gaps suggest that "we are not providing equal educational opportunity." After all, if schools cannot eliminate disorder, how can they impart knowledge to all students? And, Dean Edley continues, by kicking out students, we are pushing them away from academic commitment. We need alternatives to discipline -- for example, training teachers in classroom management and interventions, plus upgraded skills to understand the lives of unruly students. Civil rights means developing school interventions to eliminate both violence and academic inadequacy.

Perhaps only in today's PC-dominated academy does a dean of a Law School reflexively equate plain-to-see divergence in behavior with difficult-to-prove accusations of discrimination. Dean Edley surely knows that blacks are more likely than whites to be convicted of criminal offenses and that this gap cannot be blamed on "discrimination."
