Sen Ron Johnson: White House Economic Proposals Are “Jaw-Dropping” Ignorance

Sen. Ron Johnson, a successful businessman serving his first term in the Upper House, tells Newsmax that President Barack Obama’s “economic ignorance” is “jaw-dropping” — and charges that he wants to “punish success.”

The Wisconsin Republican also says that a victory in the campaign to recall Gov. Scott Walker in his battle with public employee unions would send a terrible message to Washington lawmakers that political “courage” will be penalized.


Johnson was elected in 2010 in his first run at public office, defeating three-term Democrat Russ Feingold. He is a member of the Committee on the Budget and the Appropriations Committee.

In an exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV, Sen. Johnson was asked what would happen if President Obama is re-elected to another four-year term.

“It’s not pretty,” Johnson declares. “Financially it’s going to be a real disaster because it’s not only the fact that he’s not addressing our budget, but take a look at what his agencies are doing. Since 2008, 11,000 new rules and regulations have been issued. We’re crushing business’ ability to expand and that’s what we need to do. We need to grow our economy.

“This president is hostile to businessmen, to business owners and entrepreneurs. He wants to punish success. That’s not what made American great. What made American great is people taking personal responsibility, the entrepreneurial spirit that’s been the hallmark of this country.

Mance Lipscomb (April 9. 1895 / January 30. 1976) was born to an ex-slave father from Alabama and a half Native American (Choctaw) mother. Lipscomb spent most of his life working as a tenant farmer in Texas and was "discovered" and recorded by Mack McCormick and Chris Strachwitz in 1960 during the country blues revival. He released many albums of blues, ragtime, Tin Pan Alley and folk music (most of them on Strachwitz' Arhoolie label, singing and accompanying himself on acoustic guitar. He had a fine finger-picking guitar technique, and an expressive voice. Mance was an influential blues singer, guitarist and songster. Born Beau De Glen Lipscomb near Navasota, Texas, he as a youth took the name of 'Mance' from a friend of his oldest brother Charlie ("Mance" being short for emancipation).

GOP leadership rankled by resolution calling for attorney general’s head

More than 100 Republicans in the House are clamoring for Eric Holder’s head, but GOP leaders are reluctant to vote on a measure suggesting the ouster of the U.S. attorney general.

Freshman Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) is leading the charge. He said he won’t let up until he gets a vote on his resolution.

But top-ranking Republicans tasked with scheduling a vote on the measure are playing hot potato with the issue, arguing that it’s not their responsibility while overlooking a growing chorus of outrage within their conference.

The measure, which expresses the sense that the lower chamber lacks confidence in Holder to continue as the nation’s top cop, has been sitting with the House Judiciary Committee — one of the busiest legislative committees in the House — since December, as Gosar has steadily added to its retinue of co-sponsors.

Asked Wednesday for comment about the fate of Gosar’s resolution, committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) indicated his support for the measure.

Free Speech? Marine Corps Seeks to Dishonorably Discharge Soldier For Anti-Obama Comments!

On Wednesday, the Marine Corps notified Marine Sgt. Gary Stein, a nine-year service member, that he was in violation of a Pentagon policy barring soldiers from political activities and that the Corps is seeking to dishonorably discharge him with a reduction in rank. The charges stem from his “Armed Forces Tea Party” Facebook page, where the Camp Pendleton Marine posted comments critical of President Obama and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta. Do our soldiers have any right to free speech?

Having served in the military, this is a tricky one for me to comment on. I understand the need for military discipline and loyalty. However, I also feel that service members should have the right to express themselves appropriately – even if that involves political speech.

While service members do voluntarily surrender a great many rights during their service to our nation (a part of the sacrifice they make), I do not believe that means they shed all of them. In our modern society, I think soldiers (like all other American citizens) should be able to express themselves (1) in the capacity of a private citizen and (2) as long as doing so does not harm military discipline, loyalty or performance.

So, let’s take a common sense approach to Sgt. Stein, considering the facts first.

There is only one thing certain about liberty and its loss and that is that it started at the Supreme Court. Every decision they make is a stone marker: irrefutable and eternal. The fact that they have made so many blunders, so many irrational and damaging decisions should warn us all of the coming season.

For my money, this is where the battle begins, this is where the absolute lines must be drawn even for the irresolute among us. Their decisions coming up this term will dictate the rapid descent of America and they will have finally plunged a dagger into the heart of liberty everywhere.

Overblown? I don't think so.

An International Man lives and does business wherever he finds conditions most advantageous, regardless of arbitrary borders. He's diversified globally, with passports from multiple countries, assets in several jurisdictions and his residence in yet another. He doesn't depend absolutely on any country and regards all of them as competitors for his capital and expertise.

Living as an international man used to be just an interesting possibility. But few Americans opted for it, since the US used to reward those who settled in and put down roots. In fact, it rewarded them better than any other country in the world, so there was nothing pressing about becoming an international man.

Things change, however, and being rooted like a plant, at least if you have a choice, is a suboptimal strategy for surviving and prospering. Throughout history, almost every place has at some point become dangerous for those who were stuck there. It may be America's turn.

For those who can take up the life of an international man, it's no longer just an interesting lifestyle decision. It has become, at a minimum, an asset saver, and it could be a life saver. That said, I understand the hesitation you may feel about taking action; pulling up one's roots (or at least grafting some of them to a new location) can be almost as traumatic to a man as to a vegetable.

As any intelligent observer surveys the world's economic and political landscape, he has to be disturbed – even dismayed and a bit frightened – by the gravity and number of problems that mark the horizon. We're confronted by economic depression, looming financial chaos, serious currency inflation, onerous taxation, crippling regulation, developing police states and, worst of all, the prospect of a major war. It seems almost unbelievable that we are talking of the US – which historically has been the land of the free.

How did we get here?
