Police Chiefs Unable to Discipline Bad Cops

Sunday’s Wall Street Journal reported that Thomas Dale, the Police Commissioner of New York’s Nassau County is asking the legislature for the power to fire his own officers (subscription only), a prerogative that few New York police officials have.

Harvard Law “journal of the legal left” attempts to silence anti-Holder protest website

I reported last night on plans to protest via posters on campus the appearance of Eric Holder tomorrow at Harvard Law School regarding the Fast and Furious controversy. At the end of my post last night I joked:

I wonder how long they will stay up. And how long before half of the Justice Department is tasked with unmasking the force behind Harvard Law Unbound.

The protest is organized by a website “Harvard Law Unbound,” which in its banner notes that it is not connected to “Unbound – harvard journal of the legal left.”

Apparently “Unbound” previously had objected to this website using the name “Harvard Unbound” and the website was taken down. But using the current configuration, the website has operated since April 9. The website was no secret, as it was written up both in the Harvard Law Record (April 16) and Above the Law (April 17).

But all of the sudden, with the website getting publicity regarding Holder’s visit, a person claiming to speak on behalf of Unbound has attempted to get the protest website shut down, and posted a comment asserting a violation of WordPress terms of service and copyright law:

Toronto women slain in Atlantic City

Two Toronto women visiting Atlantic City were stabbed to death Monday in what police believe was a botched attempted robbery.

According to press of AtlanticCity, police officer Jacob Abbruscato witnessed the unprovoked attack against the Canadian women and drew his weapon in a bid to stop the bloody assault.

The victims, aged 47 and 80, were alive when an ambulance arrived about 10 a.m., but died from their wounds in the afternoon at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s City Campus.

Both women, from Scarborough, had been stabbed several times in the upper body.

Abbruscato ordered the assailant to drop her weapon in the random daylight attack, which she did before being apprehended on Pacific Avenue, near Bally’s Casino.

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. As the forward machine gunner on River Patrol Boat (PBR) 124, which was on patrol during the early evening hours, Seaman Ouellet observed suspicious activity near the river bank, alerted his boat captain, and recommended movement of the boat to the area to investigate. While the PBR was making a high-speed run along the river bank, Seaman Ouellet spotted an incoming enemy grenade falling toward the boat.

He immediately left the protected position of his gun mount and ran aft for the full length of the speeding boat, shouting to his fellow crewmembers to take cover. Observing the boat captain standing unprotected on the boat, Seaman Ouellet bounded on to the engine compartment cover, and pushed the boat captain down to safety. In the split second that followed the grenade's landing, and in the face of certain death, Seaman Ouellet fearlessly placed himself between the deadly missile and his shipmates, courageously absorbing most of the blast fragments with his body in order to protect his shipmates from injury and death. His extraordinary heroism and his selfless and courageous actions on behalf of his comrades at the expense of his life were in the finest traditions of the U.S. Naval Service.

U.N. treaty and U.S. gun control

A Kansas senator has introduced a bill to protect the rights of American gun owners from the potential effects of a U.N. Arms Trade Treaty.

During an October 2009 meeting of the U.N. General Assembly, the Obama administration voted for the United States to take part in negotiating an Arms Trade Treaty, which was a reversal of the previous administration's position.

The treaty is supposedly intended to establish "common international standards for the import, export and transfer of conventional arms," including tanks, helicopters and missiles. But during a recent speech on the Senate floor, Kansas Republican Jerry Moran expressed concerns that the treaty would restrict the lawful private ownership of firearms in the U.S.

"I'm concerned that this treaty will infringe upon the Second Amendment rights of American gun owners," he shared. "I'm also concerned it will be used by other countries who do not share our freedoms to wrongly place the burden of controlling international crime and terrorism on law-abiding American citizens."

So Moran has introduced the Second Amendment Sovereignty Act to protect American gun owners from the treaty. Larry Pratt, president of Gun Owners of America, also has concerns.

While the South Slept—the battle flag was removed from South Carolina's state house under threat of boycott, and placed at a Confederate Soldier's monument. The boycott continues as the NAACP says they are still offended.

While the South Slept—Confederate flags have been removed and banned from display at many Confederate soldier gravesites.

While the South Slept—the Southern song and tune "Dixie" has fallen silent, and has been banned from our schools and colleges.

While the South Slept—the Confederate battle-flag has been taken out of the hands of Ole Miss Rebel football fans because the football coach said it hurt his recruiting efforts.

While the South Slept—tee-shirts honoring Southern heroes that include the banner under which they fought has been banned from many schools throughout the South.

While the South Slept—employees of some large corporations have been told that vehicles with bumper stickers displaying the battle-flag were not allowed in the company parking lot.

While the South Slept—BellSouth has banned any likeness of the Confederate battle-flag from business ads in their yellow pages.

While the South Slept—the "Confederate Naval Museum" in Columbus was renamed the "Civil War Naval Museum".

While the South Slept—the Confederate Rose was renamed to the Cherokee Rose.

While the South Slept—under pressure from corporate sponsors the "Confederate Air Force" was renamed. It is now the "Memorial Air Force".

While the South Slept—the University of Georgia's "Dixie Redcoat Band" no longer plays "Dixie" and they are no longer called the "Dixie Redcoat Band".

While the South Slept—former Texas Governor George W. Bush appeased the NAACP by removing a Confederate plaque from the Texas Supreme Court building which had been built from funds set aside for Texas Confederate Veterans. The plaque was placed there in the early 1900's to honor the Confederate soldiers who died defending Texas.

While the South Slept—the names of schools, streets, bridges, and other buildings bearing the names of Confederate and Revolutionary War heroes are being renamed because the NAACP says you should be offended.

While the South Slept—the word Dixie has been removed from the "Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference". This is an eight member conference of colleges in the North Carolina, Virginia area.

While the South Slept—Dixie Outfitters booths have been ejected from malls in Georgia and Alabama because they sell (non-offensive) Confederate themed tee-shirts.

While the South Slept—Ashley Walls, a student at East Highland Middle School in Sylacauga, Alabama, was told to remove a small necklace on which she had a small Confederate flag. Principal Nathan Brown says the school forbids all "rebel" insignia as well as all clothing or objects containing references to "Dixie."

While the South Slept—the Town Council of Exmouth, England, scuttles plans for a ceremony to honor Gen. Collett Leventhorpe, an English General who fought in the Confederate army. This was done because the observance might be seen to have "racist undertones."

While the South Slept—the Second National Flag of the Confederacy was removed from the display of flags at the Riverwalk in Augusta because the NAACP asked that it be removed.

While the South Slept—a young high school senior in Tennessee was forbidden from entering her high school prom because she had designed her beautiful prom dress to the likeness of a Confederate flag.

While the South Slept—Coca Cola now refers to it's founder, Dr. John Pemberton, as being a "Civil War Veteran" instead of calling him a "Confederate Veteran".

40% Now Say Trayvon™ Martin Shot in Self-Defense; 24% Say It Was Murder

As evidence continues to emerge from the shooting death of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin, Americans are becoming more convinced that his killer acted in self-defense and that the legal system will come to that conclusion.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 24% of American Adults still believe the man who shot Martin should be found guilty of murder. But that’s down from 33% in late March when the case first began to draw national headlines and 30% in early April.

Forty percent (40%) now think George Zimmerman, who has been charged with second degree murder in the Martin shooting, acted in self-defense. That’s up 25 points from 15% in March and up 16 points from 24% last month. Thirty-six percent (36%) remain undecided, compared to 55% two months ago. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The survey of 1,000 Adults nationwide was conducted on May 19-20, 2012 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.

20 Black, hooded youths storm pub with knives 'like a pack of wolves' stab father and kill son

A gang of 20 hooded youths stormed a pub after the Champions League final before dragging away a 25-year old man and stabbing him to death in scenes 'like a horror film', friends said today.

'True gent' Luke Fitzpatrick was killed and his father Bernard, who threw himself on top of his son in a desperate attempt to shield him, remains in a critical condition in hospital after being stabbed four times.

The pair were attacked when a gang armed with bats and knives stormed the north London pub after father and son had watched Chelsea win the cup together at on Saturday.

A forensic tent remained at the scene of the tragedy just yards from the pub near his Dollis Hill home.

Friend Katy McKeon, 22, who has known him growing up, said: 'Luke was one of the nicest guys around, always looking after people, he actually cared about people, a really nice, funny guy.

'The amount of flowers that are here just shows how loved he was, this has ruined this community.

'I was there on Saturday and it was like something out of a horror film.
