MADD Silent on Amnesty Law That Rewards Drunk Drivers

Via Angry Mike

As preposterous as it may seem, illegal immigrants with drunk-driving, domestic violence, aggravated assault and child abuse convictions will qualify for amnesty under the immigration bill pending in the U.S. Senate unless an amendment introduced by a Texas lawmaker is adopted.

Incredibly, groups that would normally be vocal on these sorts of issues have remained silent.  For instance, the nation’s largest organization working to stop drunk driving and support victims of the violent crime—Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)—refuses to criticize the proposed law even though it will essentially reward those convicted of driving dunk. Through a spokeswoman, MADD said it “doesn’t get involved in immigration matters.”

Under the current legislation, crafted by the bipartisan Gang of Eight in the senate, illegal aliens convicted of the crimes mentioned above are eligible for probationary legal status, officially known as Registered Provisional Immigrant (RPI). This means they can qualify for a Social Security number and state driver’s license as they embark on a 10-year path to permanent residency. Three years later, candidates become eligible for American citizenship.

Here is a gut-wrenching example of who could benefit from this; an illegal immigrant who killed a 28-year-old father and seriously injured his two young children over the weekend while driving drunk on a New Jersey highway. The illegal alien, Manuel Gutierrez Vazquez, did not have a valid driver’s license yet had been arrested a few weeks earlier for driving drunk in another state, according to a local news report.

PART XIII. GENERAL SHERMAN'S ATROCITIES AND WAR CRIMES

PART XIII.  GENERAL SHERMAN'S ATROCITIES AND WAR CRIMES
Unit Introduction: In Part 13 we will briefly examine a few of the atrocities and war crimes that General Sherman committed against the people of Georgia.  Sherman's famous march to the sea will live in infamy as one of the greats acts of in-human depravity in his quest for "total war" against the innocents.  The untold suffering could take volumes to report.  Presented here just a few of the criminal acts.

Unit Objective: To develop an awareness of the war crimes, the scope of destruction and of terror that Sherman's troops perpetrated on the non-combatant citizens of Georgia.

Seward Declares Conflict Not Over Slavery

 Chief Justice Roger Taney

Later Lincoln’s Secretary of State, William Seward caused an uproar in 1856 by publicly charging that Supreme Court justices were the tools of recently inaugurated President James Buchanan.  Chief Justice Roger Taney said later that if Seward had been elected president he would have refused to administer the oath of office.

Seward Declares Conflict Not Over Slavery:

“For years the Old South had been close to Great Britain in both business and society, and it was easy to see in the Southern planters an equivalent of the English gentry. British aristocrats like the Marquis of Lothian, the Marquis of Bath, Lord Robert Cecil, and Lord Wharncliffe  thought that the success of the Confederacy would give a much-needed check to democracy, both in America and in Europe.

More liberal Englishmen, too, could favor the South, supposing its desire to escape Northern “tyranny” was something comparable to the fulfillment of Italian and German national aspirations.  The character of the leaders of the Southern Confederacy inspired respect abroad, and the chivalric bearing of Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson enlisted the Englishman’s deepest admiration.

At first it seemed that the North muffed every opportunity to enlist British support. Already fearful of Northern economic competition, which threatened the supremacy of the British merchant marine and challenged the pre-eminence of British manufactures, the English middle classes were alienated when the Republicans adopted the Morrill tariff of 1861.

Northern appeals to British idealism were undercut when [Secretary of State William] Seward, early in the war, explicitly declared that the conflict was not being waged over slavery and would not disturb the South’s peculiar institution.

Even a staunch friend of the Union like the Duke of Argyll was obliged to conclude “that the North is not entitled to claim all the sympathy which belongs to a cause which they do not avow; and which is promoted only as an indirect consequence of a contest which (on their side at least) is waged for other objects, and on other grounds.”

Requiem

 Apia - Robert Louis Stevenson grave.

Under the wide and starry sky
Dig the grave and let me lie.
Glad did I live and gladly die,
And I laid me down with a will.

This be the verse you grave for me;
"Here he lies where he longed to be,
Home is the sailor, home from sea,
And the hunter home from the hill."

Obama Draws Only 5,000 in Berlin Speech, Down From 200,000 in 2008

 http://www.militaryimages.net/photopost/data/710/6brandenburg_gate.jpg

President Barack Obama returned to Berlin on Wednesday — but he found a very different reception than when he visited the German capital five years ago.

Then, candidate Obama greeted an estimated 200,000 people in July 2008 who turned out to hear him speak in front of Berlin's Tiergarten, one of the nation's most notable landmarks, The Atlantic reports.

German officials attacked Obama for initially wanting to stage his speech in front of the Brandenburg Gate — while Republicans in the United States winced at the thought of a presidential hopeful being adored on the international stage.

But on Wednesday, only 5,000 to 6,000 people turned out to hear Obama speak — and all of them were invited guests, the Atlantic reports.

Allen West: I May Challenge Rubio for Senate Seat

Very, very interesting. Still don't think he was defeated honestly.

Former U.S. Rep. Allen West said Wednesday that he hasn't ruled out a challenge to Florida Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, even as the former congressman acknowledged that it would be a difficult and expensive road to take.

West, a favorite of conservatives who lost his House seat in 2012, said he'd draw on his faith to make a decision on a future political contest.

"We'll see what happens down the pike," West said on WMAL's "Morning at the Mall" radio show. "God will set my feet on the right path."

Sheriffs' Association agenda clarified in shady fundraising & prior featherbedding by its chief lobbyist. Don't let NCSA kill HB 937!

Involvement of $290,000/yr unelected North Carolina Sheriffs' Association (NCSA) Executive Director Eddie Caldwell in opposition to eliminating the discriminatory and obsolete, but potentially lucrative, pistol permit system becomes clearer after GRNC has learned that fully 50% of funds raised by that group are used for further fundraising. Of the remainder, a large proportion are used to pay Caldwell's generous salary and benefits.

According to a 2007 WCNC interview with Better Business Bureau representative, Tom Bartholomy, this breakdown is “...way too high. If we had done an evaluation of this charity they would not meet our standards”.

Additional evidence of inappropriate, myopic NCSA focus on financial support for Caldwell is their prior pressure on the NC Assembly to grant a special exemption to enroll him, a non-state employee, in the State Employees Retirement System. Said the NC Police Benevolent Association: "Long known LEO operative, Eddie Caldwell, seeks to pad his own wallet on the backs of [a] disabled cops bill."

Based upon Caldwell's current salary, this would have resulted in a yearly retirement salary of about $135,000. Fortunately for NC taxpayers, this effort was shot-down.

Non-profit NCSA using YOUR money to lobby against you!

So why would Caldwell guide sheriffs to retain a Jim Crow-era law under which sheriffs issue untraceable, irrevocable paper permits, good for 5 years, which let felons bypass computerized background checks, also known as the "arming felons loophole?"

Specifically, as a not-for-profit, tax exempt organization, why is NCSA using your own money to lobby against you?

Money and power: Caldwell's money (he got blindsided in the Senate and wants to protect his cozy gig), and sheriffs' power. For their own part, sheriffs want the ability to deny permits to whomever they want. In communications with constituents, they admit wanting to deny permits to people:
  • With "pending violations" for infractions which would not be a bar to owning guns under federal law;
  • To people with unspecified "mental health issues," despite utter lack of mental health training and qualifications;
  • And to limit the number of firearms you can buy to as few as 5 per year -- WORSE THAN 1-GUN-A-MONTH LAWS; and far more.

NCSA and Eddie Caldwell are more interested in maintaining their cash cow than in closing this “armed felon loophole” once and for all.
