Emily Miller Takes on CNN Gun Control Panel With Facts, Wins

 

Washington Times Senior Opinion Editor and the author of Emily Gets Her Gun Emily Miller, was on CNN last night to talk about the Navy Yard shooting. Up against four people, she prevailed in her arguments. When the rest of the panel threw out emotional and non-factual arguments for more gun control, Miller came back with arguments backed up by facts and years of research. The whole thing is worth your time to watch.

Adm. Mullen Admits Special Ops Told to 'Hold in Place' During Benghazi

On Thursday, while denying that a "stand-down order" was given to Special Forces members ready to help Americans who were under siege at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi last September, one of the heads of the Benghazi Accountability Review Board (ARB) admitted that a "hold in place" order was in fact given.

Testifying before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Admiral Mike Mullen said that the direction given to Special Operations Command Africa commander Lt. Col Gibson was to "hold in place" on the night of the attacks.

Gun rights group sues Colorado governor over new laws

 

Colorado's largest state-based gun lobbying group has filed a lawsuit against Gov. John Hickenlooper over the strict new gun control measures he signed into law in the aftermath of last year's mass shootings.

Rocky Mountain Gun Owners filed the lawsuit in district court Sept. 4 in hopes of overturning what it says is unconstitutional legislation requiring extended background checks and restricting the size of ammunition magazines.

Dudley Brown, the group's executive director, said Tuesday the Windsor-based organization "will fight to keep the constitutional rights of Coloradans intact by challenging these laws on every front."

Ted Cruz: Will Do 'Anything and Everything' to Defund Obamacare

Congressional Republicans struggled to tamp down a family feud Thursday as they approached a politically charged showdown with the White House that combines the threat of a government shutdown, a possible first-ever federal default and the GOP's bid to repeal the nation's three-year-old health care law.

One day after conceding that the Democratic-controlled Senate probably would prevail on the last part, Sen. Ted Cruz still vowed to do "everything and anything possible to defund Obamacare." That includes a possible filibuster of legislation to prevent a partial government shutdown, added the Texas Republican.

Americans Fault Mental Health System Most for "Gun Violence"

 

Forty-eight percent of Americans blame the mental health system "a great deal" for mass shootings in the United States, unchanged from January 2011. At the same time, fewer blame easy access to guns now (40%) than two years ago (46%), making the mental health system the perceived top cause of mass shootings.

Democratic congressman mocks tea party’s affinity for ‘guns and the Bible’ [VIDEO]

Tennessee Democrat Rep. Steve Cohen blamed opposition to gun control on voters’ affinities for “guns and the Bible” on Wednesday in an MSNBC appearance.

“I got the vitriol from on the Twitter from all these people who opposed that cartoon,” said Cohen, who tweeted a cartoon that appeared to blame the National Rifle Association for the Navy Yard shooting spree on Tuesday. ”They are hardcore Republicans. This I think means more to them than — I think their guns are right there next to their Bibles. I’m not sure which they find more important to them.”

Cohen’s remarks bear a strong resemblance to comments made by President Barack Obama in 2008 at a California fundraiser, where he explained that economic downturns pushed “bitter” Pennsylvania voters to “cling to guns or religion” — a point co-host David Corn quickly made.

During the second portion of a House Oversight and Government Reform hearing about Benghazi Thursday on Capitol Hill, the majority of Democrats on the Committee left the room and refused to listen to the testimony of Patricia Smith and Charles Woods. Ms. Smith is the mother of Sean Smith, an information management officer killed in the 9/11 Benghazi attack. Charles Woods is the father of Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods, who was also killed.
