Traveling through the fertile farmland of eastern North Carolina during the summer of 1944, Joseph Buchen's thoughts drifted to an earlier time in Germany and the family left behind after being drafted into Hitler's army. He wondered how they were coping now that the Allies had begun massive bombing of his homeland. But why, you might ask, was a German soldier at the height of World War II traveling through eastern North Carolina?

The answer might surprise you, but Joseph was amoung a dozen or so German prisoners of war on their way to the waterfront of Washington, N.C. to perform a day's work at the Moss Planing Mill.

1963 Ford Galaxie 500 Lightweight 427/425 HP, 4-Speed

 

In 1962 Ford suffered badly in NHRA Stock Eliminator competition, prompting Ford merchandising manager V.P. Motto to issue a now famous memo mandating the production of 200 special lightweight Galaxies for 1963.

All were devoid of any creature comforts, and used fiberglass body panels and aluminum bumpers and brackets. Inside, Bostrum lightweight bucket seats replaced the stock bench seats; the heater, radio, armrests, clock and dash pad were deleted, and instead of carpeting, the floor was covered by a thin Black rubber mat. A simple floor shifter and a column-mounted Sun tachometer completed the driver controls.

More than just a stripped-down version of the 2-door fastback hardtop coupe, the lightweight Galaxie also had another advantage in its thundering R-code 427/425 HP engine. The 427 featured cross-bolted mains, a solid lifter cam, two Holley 4-barrels on a high rise aluminum intake, cast iron headers and other trick items. Bolted to an aluminum-case Borg Warner 4-speed, the 427 drove a 4.11:1 9-inch rear end. One of 212 produced, this rotisserie restored Wimbledon White Galaxie lightweight remains in superb condition and spent several years on display in the famed Floyd Garrett Muscle Car Museum.

50 Spies Say ISIS Intelligence Was Cooked

One person who knows the contents of the complaint said it used the word “Stalinist” to describe the tone set by officials overseeing the military’s analysis.

It’s being called a ‘revolt’ by intelligence pros who are paid to give their honest assessment of the ISIS war—but are instead seeing their reports turned into happy talk.

 

More than 50 intelligence analysts working out of the U.S. military’s Central Command have formally complained that their reports on ISIS and al Qaeda’s branch in Syria were being inappropriately altered by senior officials, The Daily Beast has learned.

The complaints spurred the Pentagon’s inspector general to open an investigation into the alleged manipulation of intelligence. The fact that so many people complained suggests there are deep-rooted, systemic problems in how the U.S. military command charged with the war against the self-proclaimed Islamic State assesses intelligence.

“The cancer was within the senior level of the intelligence command,” one defense official said.

Because human distress is involved, Europe’s current “refugee” crisis lends itself to Oprahfication—known to British listeners as Dianafication— in which rational policy is swept away by a hot syrupy tsunami of collective emoting.

Thus the crowds you’ve been seeing in news pictures the past few days, in Greece, Macedonia, and Hungary, almost all come via Turkey. And Turkey is a peaceful, stable, modern country, and has been accommodating to the refugees, settling two million of them in camps.

Indeed, a common point of departure for the boats heading to Greece is Bodrum, on the coast of Western Turkey. I was in Bodrum four years ago. I wrote at the time that the most dangerous thing about the town was teenagers riding motor scooters at high speed with one hand while talking into their smartphones.

Bodrum’s a nice place; just…not as nice as Germany, Sweden, or Britain.

The leaders and bureaucrats of the European Union (EU) are fortunate that they have largely disarmed the citizens of EU member states. If the citizens of Europe had personal weapons, all officials at all levels of the increasingly authoritarian EU organization might well be under fire — and rightly so – for causing the horde of unwanted, unneeded, and non-assimilable migrants that is now inundating Europe.

The migrants will produce further lawlessness, a debilitating level of societal tensions, enormous increases in the expense of social services and public housing, and contribute nothing worth having to the nations of the EU. The migrants also will wreck the status quo in EU security as the many hundreds of thousands of incomers are mixed with a goodly number ISIS and al-Qaeda organizers, recruiters, fighters, and suicide attackers who will make the job of EU security and intelligence services even more undoable.

Indeed, the only upside of the migrant flood is that elected and appointed EU officials will feel proud of themselves for spending the money of the EU’s wildly overtaxed citizens for a “humanitarian purpose” that, to anyone with commonsense, clearly carries the seeds of terrorism, the end of the EU, fascism, and civil war.

But after screening some episodes, we were horrified by the messages that the show is trying to teach children. We will never let our son watch Sesame Street again.

The wealthiest Muslim nations – Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, UAE, Oman and Kuwait have accepted NO SYRIAN REFUGEES!


** The wealthiest Gulf nations argue that accepting large numbers of Syrian refugees is a serious threat to the safety of its citizens because terrorists could hide themselves among civilians.

But now the Saudis have finally taken action.

The Kingdom has offered to build 200 mosques for Syrians in Germany.
