DOJ dismisses leniency request for Border Patrol agent
Months after Rep. Duncan Hunter asked the Justice Department to consider leniency for Border Patrol Agent Jesus E. Diaz Jr., who was convicted of using excessive force in arresting an illegal immigrant, the Obama administration has brushed that request.
In October and again in November, Mr. Hunter, a California Republican, asked the Justice Department to forgo collecting a court-imposed fine until after Diaz is released from prison, saying his family would have to struggle to make the payments.
In two short letters sent Feb. 13, Assistant Attorney General Ronald Weich responded, dismissing Mr. Hunter's request and saying "the case against Mr. Diaz was fully litigated in federal court." Mr. Weich also sent Mr. Hunter the press release the department issued when the judgment was handed down. Mr. Hunter's office made the letters public this week.
In a statement, Mr. Hunter said the replies were an "embarrassment."

A 51-year-old woman has outperformed recruits less than half her age after graduating from U.S. Army Basic Combat Training with one of the highest physical fitness test scores in her company.
Army Sergeant Sandra Coast, who had to lose 30lbs just to qualify, achieved better scores than both her male and female peers, who have an average age of 23.
Indeed, they are closer in age to her son, Jeff, himself in the U. S. Marine Corps, than they are to her.
This didn't stop her from pitting herself against them though.

Foreign Invaders And Occupiers: This Time, We Are The Indians
…And – the Iroquois Confederation were not fellow colonialists; they were not part of a society and community riven by violent, ideological faction, as is America, circa 2012. The Iroquois Confederation were foreign belligerents which Washington needed to knock out of the war to focus operational strength against the British main force.
I am not so sure.
I am confident that the Iroquois Confederacy did not consider themselves ‘foreign belligerents’, especially vis a vis the British Royalists and the British/newly-American Rebels.
The Iroquois understood that they were in an existential war, and fought accordingly.
So did their foes.
The last group of educated, moral, restrained gentlemen to fight on this continent against a vicious, no-holds-barred, by-any-means-necessary superior force surrendered in Virginia, North Carolina, and the Deep South in April and May of 1865.
What Ron Paul’s Detractors Reveal
Dr. Paul knows the Constitution. He has studied it. He has read what America’s Founding Fathers and framers have written about the Constitution. He has studied the enlightenment philosophers, theologians, and teachers–you know, the same ones that Thomas Jefferson and James Madison studied. He knows that the reason America is in the mess it is in today is because the Constitution has been abandoned. And he also knows that the only way to fix it (politically) is to return to constitutional governance.
Therefore, when Dr. Paul talks about drugs, foreign policy, military adventurism, or even social issues, he does so from a constitutional point of reference. And the Constitution is clear when it comes to these matters. Domestic drug laws are the exclusive responsibility of the states–as is virtually every other law enforcement matter. Foreign entanglements, empire building, turning our military personnel into the world’s policemen, etc., are all anathema to constitutional government. And the longer our political leaders continue to ignore the Constitution, the more America will continue to slide down this slippery slope in which we now find ourselves.

GOA Another Obama Nominee Confirmed to the Bench

Last week, we alerted you to a radical anti-gun nominee President Obama named to the federal bench, Jesse Furman.
To no one’s surprise, Furman is cut from the same judicial cloth as other Obama nominees such as Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan.
For instance, in an article published a number of years ago—but from which Furman has not distanced himself—he writes that: “Probably the best explanation for the amount of violent crime in the United States is its fascination with guns.”
GOA members flooded the Senate with emails, and many Senators voted against Furman. But Majority Leader Harry Reid kept every single Democrat in lock-step with the Obama agenda, and Furman was confirmed to a lifetime appointment to the bench on a vote of 62-34.
Republicans Jon Kyl and John McCain (AZ), Bob Corker and Lamar Alexander (TN), Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe (ME), Jeff Sessions (AL), Lisa Murkowski (AK), Scott Brown (MA), and Lindsey Graham (SC) joined all Democrats in voting for Furman. (Need to go.)
This vote serves to highlight the difficulty in protecting the courts from anti-Second Amendment nominees who come before the Congress. Obama will continue to nominate far left gun grabbers, and Harry Reid will be his go-to guy for confirmation votes.
And if Obama wins a second term, his agenda will become only more brazen. That’s why a top goal of GOA in 2012 is to help elect as many truly pro-gun friends as we can to the U.S. Senate.
It is crucial that Harry Reid does not retain the gavel next year. But it is not enough to just elect members of the opposing party. We need to elect strong candidates who understand the Constitution and who will not bow to pressure from the White House—whoever the occupant may be—or from the leadership of either party in the Congress.
