The Norwegian Straitjacket

VERBATIM POST

The first week of the trial of Anders Behring Breivik is over — one down, nine to go! — and our Norwegian correspondent The Observer has some thoughts about the larger implications of what is happening in that courtroom in Oslo.

Like me, he sees the careful planning by the authorities going awry as the world listens in on the horrifically lucid thoughts of the Butcher of Utøya.

The Norwegian Straitjacket
By The Observer

Absolutely nothing has gone according to “plan” for the Norwegian authorities in this particular case. During the attack they failed miserably, and now they feel compelled to conduct a proper court case, because anything else would go against every grain of their ‘benign’ ideology.

As Mr. Gjems-Onstad said, the authorities in Norway have been so busy telling everyone else how to manage their internal affairs, and stressing how humane Norwegians are, that anything short of this type of response would be considered pure hypocrisy and a complete and utter loss of face. Their besserwisser attitude has become somewhat of a straitjacket, and it seems they don’t find it very comfortable.

One thing people should realize about the Norwegian authorities is that they are very concerned, almost to the point of obsessiveness, about what foreign political ‘dignitaries’ and governments think of them. They really have a desperate desire to be liked.

It’s an inferiority complex that stems from the fact that Norway was under foreign rule for such a long time. Norway only became an independent nation in 1905, an independence which we of course lost when we were hijacked by the EU-fanatics in our government.

Breivik has managed to scare the authorities to the bone. When you read about all the terrible ideas that have been hatched in his evil little brain, everything from blowing up gasoline tanker trucks in crowded squares to beheading the former prime-minister and killing the entire Norwegian Government, it really send chills down your spine.

I have mentioned previously that we’ll probably see copycats trying to emulate Breivik’s terrorist acts. The Norwegian Government is aware of this possibility, and it scares the hell out of them.

It’s worth remembering that the population of Norway is only five million. The population of Germany, France and England is ten to fifteen times greater than that, and that should in theory mean ten to fifteen potential Breivik copycats in each of these countries. Add the very dismal future prospects in some of these countries to the equation, accompanied by a tsunami of third-world immigrants hitting their shores, and you have a very volatile and tense situation at hand.

Also bear in mind the new regimes that are emerging in North Africa....

We have lived to see interesting times.

To Weaken the Forces of the Rebellion

Virginia Royal Governor Dunmore’s rationale for emancipating slaves in 1775 to fight against American independence was adopted by Lincoln and the North as it emancipated slaves to fight against Southern American independence. Northern radicals, such as Henry Wilson of Massachusetts below, liberated slaves in Southern States where they could not reach them, but did not free the slaves of masters loyal to they and Lincoln. He and his radical colleagues, like Dunmore, wanted slaves freed only to weaken and destroy Southerners struggling for political independence. Wilson did not admit below that the slave pirates he denounces were New Englanders, whose transatlantic slavers were still being caught in 1859.

To Weaken the Forces of the Rebellion:

“When the Rebellion culminated in active hostilities, it was seen that thousands of slaves were used for military purposes by the rebel forces. To weaken the forces of the Rebellion, the Thirty-seventh Congress decreed that such slaves should be free forever.

As the Union armies advanced into the rebel States, slaves, inspired by the hope of personal freedom, flocked to their encampments, claiming protection against rebel masters, and offering to work and fight for the flag whose stars for the first time gleamed upon their vision with the radiance of liberty.

To weaken the power of the insurgents, to strengthen the loyal forces, and assert the claims of humanity, the Thirty-seventh Congress enacted an article of war, dismissing from the service officers guilty of surrendering these fugitives [to rebel masters].

The hoe and spade of the rebel slave were hardly less potent for the Rebellion than the rifle and bayonet of the rebel soldier. Slaves sowed and reaped for the rebels, enabling the rebel leaders to fill the wasting ranks of their armies, and feed them.

T weaken the military forces and power of the Rebellion, the Thirty-seventh Congress decreed that all slaves of persons giving aid and comfort to the Rebellion, escaping from such persons, or deserted by them; all slaves of such persons, being within any place occupied by the forces of the United States, -- shall be captives of war, and shall be forever free of their servitude, and not again held as slaves.

The progress of the Rebellion demonstrated its power, and the needs of the imperiled nation. To strengthen the physical forces of the United States, the Thirty-seventh Congress authorized the president to receive into military service persons of African descent; and every such person mustered into the service, his mother, his wife and children, owing service or labor to any person who should give aid and comfort to the Rebellion, was made forever free.

The African slave trade had been carried on by slave pirates under the protection of the flag of the United States. To extirpate from the seas that inhuman traffic, and to vindicate the sullied honor of the nation….the administration entered early into treaty stipulations with the British Government…”

Dershowitz Blasts Zimmerman Prosecution: 'Not Only Immoral, But Stupid'

With ABC News’ release of the George Zimmerman photo showing blood flowing freely from his head, the question becomes whether Angela Corey, the prosecutor in the case, had access to the photo before charging Zimmerman with second-degree murder.

The arrest affidavit did not mention the photograph, or the bleeding, gashes, and bruises on Zimmermans’ head. Professor Alan Dershowitz of Harvard Law School stated upon release of the arrest affidavit that it was “so thin that it won’t make it past a judge on a second degree murder charge … everything in the affidavit is completely consistent with a defense of self-defense.”

After the release of the photo, however, Dershowitz went much further, telling Breitbart News that if the prosecutors did have the photo and didn’t mention it in the affidavit, that would constitute a “grave ethical violation,” since affidavits are supposed to contain “all relevant information.”

Dershowitz continued, “An affidavit that willfully misstates undisputed evidence known to the prosecution is not only unethical but borders on perjury because an affiant swears to tell not only the truth, but the whole truth, and suppressing an important part of the whole truth is a lie."

Mass. Student Defends Norwegian Massacre Suspect

Via Ryan

Forts called the deaths of the children "a necessary political sacrifice that is not necessary again." Forts said people need to look at Breivik's political platform, "rather than his atrocious actions."
The student also called Breivik a patriot whose act "demonstrates a sense of nationalism and a moral conscience."
"He's fighting against cultural Marxism and an Islamization of Norway and he found that the most rational ... way to accomplish that was through terrorist actions on Utoya and in Oslo," Forts said.

The National Review Sensitivity Cruise

As many readers of Taki’s Mag know, America has recently experienced a nasty outbreak of white racism. While the hate-mongering culprits have been duly punished, it is clear that this stamp-out-the-brushfire approach is hardly a long-term solution. At best, white racism merely crawls underground and gestates; at worst it migrates elsewhere. Especially exasperating is that for nearly a half-century, America has tried to eliminate this pox, and even draconian measures such as compulsory sensitivity training have failed. Clearly, some fresh approaches are required.

I suggest two modest (and, I daresay, innovative) proposals.

It is well-known that conservatives are especially racism-prone, though few will publicly confess their sin. As Charles Murray observes in Coming Apart, these types live in all-white, often gated communities, send their children to schools that are at least 90% white, and otherwise avoid any contact with African Americans—especially of the Trayvon Martin variety.

It is equally obvious, as any social-science professor will explain, that racial separatism encourages dangerous stereotypes. So how can we get these closet racists to better understand socially disadvantaged youths? I don’t mean some superficial encounter as one might have at a charity banquet where shaking hands with carefully selected youngsters is the only contact—I mean full interaction in a confined space for an extended period.

“Surely some foundation, or even the federal government itself, can sponsor 100 inner-city youths for these cruises.”

Here’s my solution. Conservative magazines such as National Review should be forced to regularly sponsor cruises in which a thousand or more socially disadvantaged and numerically underrepresented fellow travelers are rewarded the opportunity to rub elbows with in-house political pundits. These cruises usually last a week to ten days, and since everybody is in close quarters, socializing is almost 24/7.

Surely some foundation, or even the federal government itself, can sponsor 100 inner-city youths for these cruises. By social-engineering standards, the cost would be cheap—$250,000 would cover everything, including a few hundred in spending money. This is a 100% win-win arrangement: National Review raises extra money and the cruise line adds “paying” customers. Most importantly, a week is ample time to demolish dangerous stereotypes. Imagine the attitude transformation when, say, a small-town Iowa lawyer encounters an inner-city youth from Newark at the swimming pool or bar. The initial interaction might be a bit awkward, but surely after a week of drinking together and sharing chitchat about this and that, our lawyer will think twice about prejudging these youngsters. Meanwhile, this youth will gain a new appreciation for white Middle America. Both may bond when they discover that each feels “the system” exploits them, though this exploitation takes radically different forms.

My second modest proposal attempts to broaden the anti-racism war by pushing it beyond the usual blog-based condemnations and into the population more generally.
