New Alabama bill prohibits welfare money use on liquor, tattoos

Via Billy

If they are able bodied, they need to work to receive the benefits.

An Alabama state senator is pushing a bill that would prohibit Alabamians from using welfare benefits to buy booze, cigarettes, lap dances or advice on the psychic hotline.

Sen. Arthur Orr, R-Decatur, prefiled a bill for the 2013 session that would prohibit people from using their benefits in, or making cash withdrawals at, bars, casinos, tattoo parlors, strip clubs or facilities that offer psychic services. The proposal also would prohibit people from using the benefits to buy alcoholic beverages and cigarettes and fine any business that lets them do so.

"I think to prevent some of these, or all of these, type transactions would hopefully mean the money will go where it is intended to go, which is for the support of the children," Orr said.

"If hard-working taxpayers are footing the bill for tattoos and psychic hotlines, they ought to be incensed. I certainly am," Orr said.

Lawmakers in states across the country are trying to implement restrictions on the use of welfare benefits. Saying they are trying to prevent the waste and abuse of taxpayer money, at least 10 states have implemented new policies or laws, while opponents question the enforceability or need for the measures at all.

Revised History
VERBATIM POST

By Al Benson Jr.

Adam Zamoyski wrote a book in 1999 called Holy Madness in which he dealt with the revolutionary mindset in the last part of the 18th century. The roots of this revolutionary mindset are not often discussed, and for good reason. Often those who glorify revolutionaries really don’t want you to know where they are coming from, but Zamoyski has told us quite plainly—if we have eyes to see.

He particularly deals with the French Revolution, which has scarred France even to this day as our War of Northern Aggression has scarred us. Both revolutions had something in common—the destruction of Christian culture.

The revolutionaries were opposed to Christianity and the teachings of Scripture. Zamoyski noted that: “The element of Christian teaching that aroused the particular ire of the eighteenth-century clerisy was the doctrine of original sin—that all men are born with the taint of Adam and need to redeem themselves..What man needed, in their view, was not salvation but education, which would liberate him from all the superstitions born of ignorance. They heaped ridicule on the Christian belief in an afterlife and attacked the concept of abnegation and sacrifice leading to sanctity…and stridently condemned ‘fanaticism’ by which they meant faith.” In their “education rather than saving faith” mindset they were rather like the Unitarians in this country that helped to found the modern public school system in the 1830s. They rejected the truth of Christ’s salvation, did not look to God’s Kingdom, but rather to the state for man’s hope.

The mindset of the 18th century revolutionaries has evolved in recent years into what we today refer to as liberalism, socialism and communism. There is not all that much difference between these three except in degree. Many hard-core liberals will eventually embrace some form of communism and they will refer to it as “compassion.” Does this fool a lot of people? Of course it does and that is the intention.

Many liberals, socialists, and communists in our day refer to themselves as loving, compassionate, wanting to spread the concepts of “diversity,” tolerance, and multiculturalism. They portray themselves as embracing all these supposedly noble traits.

However, even a superficial look will reveal that these people are anything but what they claim to be.

Chick-fil-A is a fast food franchise with hundreds of restaurants across the country. You can tell from the name that they specialize in chicken. Recently, the head of the company, Dan Cathy, made a statement to the effect that he believed in the biblical definition of marriage being between one man and one woman and that this country risked God’s judgment if we continued to promote the concept of “gay” marriage (sodomite and lesbian marriage).

From the reaction of the “news” media you would have thought that Mr. Cathy had spearheaded a drive to round up all the sodomites in this country and ship them to Africa the day after tomorrow the same way Abraham Lincoln wanted to do to the slaves once they had been freed. All he did was to make one statement that was consistent with biblical truth. However, any statement consistent with biblical truth enrages the liberal/socialist/communist mindset. When biblical truth is put forth these people display the full extent of their liberal “love” by trying to subvert it and to kill the messenger—any way they can. Biblical truth makes these folks mad. They don’t want to hear it and they don’t want anyone else to hear it.

Already the mayors of both Boston and Chicago have stated that no Chick-fil-A franchises will ever be given in their cities. I don’t know much about the current mayor in Boston, but the mayor of Chicago is Rahm Emmanuel, Comrade Obama’s old buddy. Remember him? These people get on their anti-Christ high horses and prattle to the world about “tolerance.” Doesn’t seem like they have much of it for someone with an opposing viewpoint does it?

One thing you will learn about the political leftists as you go along is that the only people that are to be tolerated are those who share their left-wing viewpoints. That’s the only place tolerance is allowed. Anyone daring to express an anti-leftist opinion, and especially an opinion based on the truth of Scripture has to be silenced—and if you can manage to put him out of business while shutting him up, so much the better. If you do enough of that there won’t be that many people left around that will question your “love and compassion.” You will have silenced them all and you can now spread your leftist drivel among those who did not have the good sense to question what you say and do.

So, remember this when you hear some liberal/socialist/communist in the future bragging about how they are compassionate in their concern for “the masses.” Their compassion extends only to their own but their vitriol extends to all those daring to disagree with their “enlightened” opinions. These people hate Jesus Christ and the Bible and will consciously do whatever they think they can to undermine both the truth and grace of God.

In their intolerance against Mr. Cathy for daring to stand up for Scriptural truth they have revealed what they really are—intolerant leftist bigots. It may not help for Christians to rant at these people because it is doubtful they will listen to the truth, but maybe we should all make a bigger effort to eat more chicken.

VERBATIM POST

A reader sends this link to the Greensboro, NC paper, with the following gem from Congressman Brad Miller:

***
…U.S. Rep. Brad Miller , D- 13th District, counters those fears assume “a tyrannical government.” He said the idea that armed citizens serve as an effective check on a modern military is “kind of a fantasy.”

“Given the power of the military now, the weaponry available to the military and the powers of the government, the idea that armed citizens are an important check on government just seems unrealistic,” Miller said. “And it leads to the kind of carnage that we saw in Aurora.”

Does anyone think the gentleman from North Cackalacky understands that FREEFOR will NOT be aiming at .mil forces, at least in the early stages of the Coming Festivities?

Thought not.

“Jesse Can’t Shag”

I just heard the complete shag record on 107.9 for the first time and thought it hilarious.:)

Good job, Jesse. We need more like you.

This fall the Collection received two cartons of miscellaneous printed materials–tourist brochures, political flyers, and the like. In among the brochures was a 45 rpm record entitled “Jesse Can’t Shag.” It was made for the 1984 Helms-Hunt U.S. Senate race. Given the passions that Senator Helms evoked, it’s a surprisingly gentle song. The gist of the song is that the vocalist is leaning toward Hunt because “Jimmy” likes beach music. On the other hand, Jesse “has two right feet” and has never learned to shag. The singer thinks it’s time for Jesse to “shag or get off the floor.”

The music is country. It’s a polished mix, with a honky-tonk piano, a horn section, and backup singers. Click HERE for an excerpt.

Obama versus Mrs. Goose

Message from the Stock Market

Mike Scruggs

Having been a “stock broker” for over 20 years with a major national financial firm, I am painfully aware of how difficult it is to forecast the economy and stock prices. I personally found it futile to give much weight to short-term stock market forecasts against longer-term financial objectives. Most people who try to “time” the market are less successful in the long run than people who concentrate on picking solid growth opportunities at reasonable prices.

When I first went to work for E. F. Hutton in 1984, picking good investments was less complicated. More recently, the prevalence of trading “derivative” securities and the mindless programmed trading of millions of stock shares without regard to specific equity prospects or valuation can hand you your head on a platter in the short-run. Sticking with a good stock for the long run is now more dangerous. In addition, the emphasis on immediate earnings results has made the weeks before a company’s quarterly report a time of fearful anticipation. Any minor short-term shortfall or nuance of future uncertainty can be a personal disaster for stockholders—a good reason for not having all your eggs in one basket. American business would be much better off, if it could concentrate on long-term issues rather than the next quarterly report.

I never worked for Merrill Lynch, but I have been “bullish on America” in the past because, despite the bumbling of politicians, our strong free enterprise system and market economy drive good returns on the stock market in the long run. So far, American politicians have not been able to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs. However, at times they have been able to frighten or discourage the goose into laying fewer and smaller eggs, and this has made America poorer. Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society War on Poverty was supposed to cost $60 billion per year, but the actual cost adjusted to 1966 dollars is running over $600 billion per year. It sounded to many like a sweet thing to do for the poor, but it has only flushed several trillion dollars down the toilet and has reaped no favorable results. It has resulted in a declining American work ethic, millions of fatherless homes and children, and millions of illegal immigrants exploiting the benefits of free babies and healthcare—but the costs of these are so high that no one can estimate them.

Moreover, the politicians have business so regulated that no one can estimate the costs. It has been good for many big businesses, however, because it has made it hard on smaller competitors and new business start-ups. I am of the philosophy that we should treat the golden goose with more love and respect. It is Mrs. Goose, you see, and not the likes of Barack Obama, who can produce the golden eggs that result in millions of good jobs. Indeed, President Obama appears to have a strong grudge against Mrs. Goose and insists that she lay green eggs.

On Friday, July 27, the U.S. stock markets gave us a strong clue regarding what is necessary to improve the economy. Economic reports were generally dismal. The latest Bureau of Labor Statistics reports indicate that the economic “recovery” is slowing to less than two percent annual growth with little prospect of creating real jobs. The Consumer Confidence Index has fallen to its lowest level this year. Only 25 percent of those polled believe the economy is getting better. If you look deeper into the usual government statistics on employment and inflation, things are much worse than commonly reported by popular media. The European economies are still struggling from the results of many years of government overspending and high taxes. Several are on the verge of fiscal collapse. Yet on Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Index was up 187.73 or 1.46 percent to 13,075.66, and the Nasdaq Index was up 64.84 or 2.24 percent to 2958.14. Why are the markets up when the economic news is so discouraging?

I believe it is because the Rasmussen poll just released indicates that Mitt Romney has moved up in their daily polls by about 4 percent and now has a 4 percent lead over President Obama. The vast majority of sophisticated investors—indeed, anyone with much economic, business, or common sense—knows that Barack Obama is not a friend to Mrs. Goose. He does not appear to know anything but Marxist demagoguery about economics, business, and the every day struggles of business owners and working families. Barack Obama is not your grandfather’s Democrat. His cultural and economic Marxism is difficult to distinguish from the European Union socialist parties responsible for Europe’s troubles. No intelligent and knowledgeable voter outside of a madhouse or the core constituencies of the Democrat party believe that Barack Obama is good for the economy, jobs, or the stock market. The market is rising on the hope that the reign of Obama will be over next January. Public confidence is firming that Mitt Romney is much better qualified in intellectual competence, hands-on economic and business knowledge, and leadership to halt America’s social and economic decline and put her on the road to prosperity and global leadership again.

However, the election is three months away, and popular opinion is not necessarily well-informed opinion. If Romney is elected, we will still have many of our current stock market problems, especially those related to Europe, but I am confident that the long-term trend will be up as free markets and free enterprise are unshackled, and Mrs. Goose increases the size and frequency of her golden eggs. If Obama is re-elected, Mrs. Goose may be forced to take early retirement, and investor confidence is going to have its back broken.
