Judge: Langboard Familys $80 Million Double Eagle Gold Coins Belong to Government | Franklin Delano Roosevelt

A judge has ruled that ten rare gold coins worth roughly $80 million belong to the U.S. government, not the family that possessed them, according to ABC News.

In 2003 Joan Langbord and two other family members opened a safety deposit box that belonged to Langbord’s father, Philadelphia coin dealer Israel Switt, and found the valuable collection. When they asked the Philadelphia Mint to authenticate the find, the coins were apparently seized without compensation and taken to Fort Knox.

The 1933 Saint-Gaudens double eagle is “one of the most sought-after rarities in history,” according to Courthouse News. Originally valued at $20 each, one owned by King Farouk of Egypt reportedly sold for as much as $7.5 million at a Sotheby’s auction in 2002.

The Langbords unsuccessfully sued the government in 2011, alleging that the coins are rightfully theirs, and now they have the appeal.

Jacqueline Romero, assistant U.S. attorney in Philadelphia, explained that the coins legally belonged to the government after Franklin Delano Roosevelt ordered citizens to exchange their gold for cash in an effort to keep the banks afloat during the Great Depression.

“Those coins were all in a vault and were supposed to be melted,” she asserted.

General Dempsey Tacitly Endorses Barack Obama

Via Terry

Two weeks ago Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Martin Dempsey waded into the 2012 political campaign by criticizing a ad run by a Super PAC composed of former Special Operations veterans opposing the re-election of Barack Obama.

At the time, General Dempsey made this statement as reported in The Hill:

“If someone uses the uniform, whatever uniform, for partisan politics, I am disappointed because I think it does erode that bond of trust we have with the American people,” Dempsey said during his flight back from a trip to Afghanistan and Iraq.

In my view this is one of the most absurd utterances ever by a serving general officer. Veterans are just that, veterans. They are no longer subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice or to command authority. Expecting veterans to set aside their political rights forever because the “aren’t helpful”, to use Dempsey’s phrasing, simply runs against American history.

At the time I noted that Dempsey had made no effort to criticize hard left groups like VoteVets or IAVA. He didn’t mention political hacks like Tammy Duckworth who have built a career around wounds received in combat.

Now we have an additional data point.

A featured speaker the Democrat convention was retired Admiral John Nathman. Unlike the mid-level veterans associated with the ad that got General Dempsey exercised, Nathman retired as commander of US Fleet Forces Command. Why was Nathman and the other veterans on stage? The answer is obvious, he was there to try to convince us that the pantywaist in the White House is one tough hombre who will make that “gutsy call” (don’t believe me, go to http://www.gutsycall.com).

A Nash County trooper died Saturday morning while trying to deploy stop sticks during a high-speed chase that covered parts of Wake and Nash counties, authorities said.

According to the state Highway Patrol, trooper Bobby G. Demuth, a 12-year-veteran stationed in Rocky Mount, died while trying to deploy the sticks near Spring Hope in Nash County shortly after 8 a.m.

"We're all family. We're all brothers and that's why it is so tragic to have to report on something that occurred this morning," said First Sergeant Jeff Gordon, the Highway Patrol's public information officer. "When something like this happens, it really brings to light and you really do realize the dangers that are involved. We lost an invaluable member today."

Authorities arrested 40-year-old Christopher McCoy Rodgers, of 102 Outterbridge Road, Williamston, shortly after he hit Demuth.

A Raleigh police officer started following Rodgers, who was driving a 1995 Nissan 200SX on Interstate 440 near the U.S Highway 264 bypass, around 7:45 a.m.

The chase began a few minutes later on the Highway 264 bypass near Wendell and ended around 8:30 a.m. near N.C. Highway 581 in Spring Hope, about 20 miles away on N.C. Highway 64, authorities said.

The Raleigh Police Department took a secondary role in the pursuit once the Wake County Sheriff's office attained position and withdrew from the chase in Franklin County as other departments became available.

Authorities said that prior to the chase, Rodgers forcibly restrained a female and her 21-month-old child shortly after midnight Saturday morning and barricaded them into a room. The victims' ATM card was later found to have been stolen and used in the 800 block of South New Hope Road after Rodgers fled. The victim was able to free herself to call for help.

Raleigh police said Rodgers was wanted on charges of burglary, common law robbery, obtaining property by false pretenses and two counts of kidnapping from an incident Friday night.

North Carolina Department of Transportation officials said U.S. Highway 64 is now open in both directions after being closed for nearly eight hours.

No other information about the chase or the charges was released. It wasn’t clear if Rodgers or other officers involved were injured.

PATH TO 9-11: The scene they didn't want you to see

Last year, ABC and Disney appeared to cave to political pressure from Bill Clinton, Sandy Berger, and Democrat leaders in the Senate. As a result, a key scene that was critical of the Clinton administration's mishandling of Osama bin Laden never made it to broadcast television. To this day, Disney refuses to release the movie on DVD.

THIS IS THAT SCENE AS IT WAS INTENDED TO BE SEEN...

Border Agent Brian Terry's Alleged Killer Arrested

Mexican police detained a man accused of fatally shooting a U.S. Border Patrol agent almost two years ago in Arizona in a botched U.S. operation to track guns smuggled across the border, the government said Friday.

Federal police detained Jesus Leonel Sanchez Meza on Thursday in Sonora state, which borders Arizona, where agent Brian Terry was shot dead in December 2010, the Public Security Ministry said. The Mexican Attorney General's Office plans to extradite Sanchez Meza to the United States, the ministry said in a statement.

Two guns found at the scene were traced to a botched U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) sting operation called "Fast and Furious" that allowed weapons to slip across the border. It was not clear, however, if those weapons fired the fatal shots.

Four others have been accused in the shooting, the ministry said. Officials did not say if they were also being detained.
