Firefox Plug-In Warns Users of NSA Surveillance

According to leaked NSA documents published by The Guardian last week, the United States National Security Agency is conducting dragnet surveillance of the communications of Americans, regularly receiving phone records for millions of Verizon customers while also being capable of accessing the conversations that occur over Facebook, Google and several other major Internet names through a program called PRISM. Now a 28-year-old artist and developer from Brooklyn, New York has found a fun way of warning computer users about potential government surveillance, and he’s incorporated one of the best-selling rock albums ever in the process.

Justin Blinder released a plugin for the Web browser Firefox this week, and he’s already seeing a positive response in the press if not just based off of the idea alone. His “The Dark Side of the Prism” browser extension alerts Web surfers of possible surveillance by starting up a different song from Pink Floyd’s 1973 classic “The Dark Side of the Moon” each time a questionable site is crossed.

I found the Plug-in and downloaded it.  After you do, it will play some of the track.  Good to go for sure.

PS:  Well, now I don't know if this is a joke, but if it's not, I'm under surveillance since the damn music plays continuously.

PPS:  I had to disable it, so I guess it works well, but the music stays on continually which needs to be changed. At any rate, it's great to find out what we insurrectionists already suspected that the Marxists are in change. Pathetic, useful fools..  You are a disgrace to our Founding Fathers who would have dealt with you quickly.

77 Percent of Obama's New Jobs Are Part-Time

While many economists have described the employment picture as gradually improving in recent months, by one measure it's not improving at all.

In July, only 92,000 of the 266,000 jobs created were full-time — just 35 percent of the total.

You may wonder why the total number of jobs created isn't 162,000, the number commonly used by news services. That number is calculated from the Labor Department's establishment survey of employers. The 266,000 is calculated from the department's household survey.

For the year through July, only 222,000 jobs created were full-time — representing just 23 percent of the total of 953,000, according to Zero Hedge.

Some economists are raising warning flags over the fact that 77 percent of this year's new jobs are part-time, saying the numbers provide a bleak portrayal of the labor market.

What Are We To Do?

 http://i2.blogs.indiewire.com/images/blogs/shadowandact/archives/slaverevolt.jpg

The following essay by Joseph Addison Turner of Georgia summarized the fear of servile insurrection faced by Southerners in mid-1860, and presented practical solutions to deal with the threat.  To better understand the reason why the American South did not return to the Union in early 1861 after Northern promises that slavery would be forever protected, the issue of incessant Northern incitement of servile insurrection is a most important one. This passage is taken from DeBow’s Review, Volume XXIX, July 1860, pp. 70-77.

What Are We To Do?

“In view of the Harper’s Ferry affair, and the developments that have followed it, a question of grave import presents itself to the Southern people.  What steps are we to take to effectually resist the spirit and the attacks – the actual invasions, of Northern abolitionism?  It is our intention to discuss this question calmly and dispassionately, with all the reason, all the judgment, which nature has allowed us.

[To] those who are our determined and uncompromising enemies, who are ready to apply the torch of the incendiary to every house in the sunny South, who are all the time compassing heaven and earth to obtain the means necessary to kindle a servile war, and to raise the assassin’s knife against every Southern breast – to which we have no word of explanation, farther than to say, that in meting out justice even to you, we would let reason and not passion direct.

In order to protect ourselves and our families, we must first find out who are they that threaten us.  What we are called on to guard against now – this very day, this very hour – is the host of abolition emissaries who are scattered abroad throughout the length and breadth of our land, who permeate the whole of Southern society, who occupy our places of trust and emolument.

Let us examine for a moment, the plans of these people. [The] Yankees who come among us as teachers, preachers, merchants, drummers, peddlers, etc., are base, bitter, malignant abolitionists, bearing in their hearts a determined and implacable hatred toward us and our institutions; always seeking every opportunity to instill the poison of their opinions into the minds of our slaves; working silently, slowly, insidiously, but constantly, till, as they imagine, they shall be able to kindle a fire of servile insurrection, which shall wrap in flames and involve in ruin the whole broad expanse of our now happy and prosperous Southern country.

It is folly – it is willful blindness – any longer to shut our eyes to the fact.  The danger is in our midst, and we must meet it, now.

On the maps found in John Brown’s possession, were certain marks, designating certain localities all over the Southern country – in Georgia, as well as other States.  What mean these marks? They at least indicate that abolition emissaries have been on these spots, and have cast an evil eye – an eye of blighting – upon these portions of our beloved soil.  These our homesteads have been polluted by the tread of vile murderers, who have, doubtless, partaken of our hospitality, while they were taking counsel how they might assassinate us.  Which of them are wolves in sheep’s clothing, which of them are worthy of hanging as traitors, we cannot often determine.

We must patronize home industry. At the risk of doing injustice to a great many Northern men who come among us, merely with the view of improving their private fortunes, and who attend strictly to their own business, leaving us to manage ours, we must set our faces against immigration into our borders from the North.  Especially must we frown upon all itinerants and stragglers from beyond Mason and Dixon’s line.

Let us in no instance, trade with a fresh Yankee merchant, employ a raw Yankee teacher, or mechanic, or in any manner tolerate a Yankee peddler. Let them all be placed under a ban.  Let them all be watched, and let them know they are objects of suspicion.

Southerners should also content themselves within their own limits. Let those who have money to spend distribute it, in future, among their own friends and neighbors. For those who have the means and the leisure to make a tour every summer . . . there are numberless places of interest in our own borders.

On the other hand, it cannot be denied that many of our Southern teachers and mechanics are so idle and worthless that they allow these shrewd, hard-working Yankees to slip in before them and bear off the palm on all occasions.  It is the great fault of Southern people that they are too proud to work! The truth is, all of us – employers and employees, capitalists and laborers, rich and poor, producers and consumer -- all have acted wrong, and it remains for us to reform.”

George Will: If he thinks libertarianism a “dangerous thought,” people may think Christie himself is “dangerous”

There is a rising libertarian stream that Chris Christie has said is a very “dangerous thought,” so let’s be clear about what libertarianism is and what it isn’t. It is not anarchism, it has a role for government. What libertarianism says, it comes in many flavors and many degrees of severity.

It basically says, before the government bridges the freedom of an individual, or the freedom of several individuals contracting together, that government ought to have, A, a compelling reason, and B, a constitutional warrant for doing so. Now, if Mr. Christie thinks that’s a “dangerous thought,” a number of people are going to start saying Mr. Christie himself may be dangerous.

Egypt claims jihadists fired US Hellfire missile at government office

Via avordvet

Jihadists in Egypt's lawless Sinai Peninsula are using U.S. weapons to carry out attacks against the temporary government in the wake of the military's ouster of President Mohammed Morsi, according to the embattled nation's Interior Ministry.
The government office posted an official statement on its Facebook page along with images of an exploded missile that hit the third floor of a building in the city of el-Arish last week. The post said terrorist forces targeted the North Sinai Security Directorate office with a ballistic missile that struck the third floor facade of the building, leaving three soldiers injured. While attacks in the Sinai, which borders Gaza and is a haven for terrorist activity, have become commonplace, the prospect that militants have U.S. weapons typically fired from helicopters at their disposal is especially alarming.

Three photos of the missile posted by the government agency shows that it appears to be an AGM-114F with a label written in English and the letters “U.S.” stenciled on the side.

Wonder if he could have been set up?

Evidence suggests hackers employed by the FBI managed to track some Tor users

Scores of “darknet” websites and services remain inaccessible following the arrest of an Irish man believed to be the head of Freedom Hosting, the biggest service provider on the anonymous Tor network.

The FBI has accused Eric Eoin Marques of facilitating child pornography distribution. If he is extradited to the US, he could spend up to 30 years in prison.

Marques is expected to appear in Ireland’s High Court on Thursday, reports The Independent in Ireland. He was identified as a result of a cyber attack on Freedom Hosting, which had also configured the servers to spread the infection.

An Open Letter to The Hidden Benghazi Survivors

Via avordvet

This is an entirely open letter.  Why? Because you are entirely hidden.

My hope is somehow this letter finds you. Perhaps a stray tweet or a link will get to you.  Or a hard copy, printed out and handed to you.  Maybe you have a device that isn’t being monitored. Maybe it’s a long, dumb shot, but I have to try.  I might even have to go into “hiding” after this letter is published.  This is where we are, in our country today; citizens afraid to tell the truth or ask others to do the same.

I realize you’ve been coerced and threatened.  You possibly had your names changed whether you wanted to or not.  You are clearly deep in hiding though; probably more than afraid, most likely terrified. Possibly you’ve been well-compensated for “your troubles”.  In some ways, you are no different than many Americans that don’t have the luxury of hiding.  This is a country with a citizenry that is now coerced and threatened, afraid for our liberty and Constitutional freedoms.

Virginia gun crime drops, as state's firearms sales soar

Amid calls nationwide for stricter gun control laws, Virginia is experiencing a unique trend: the state's gun-related crime is declining but firearms sales are increasing.

Firearms sales rose 16 percent to a record 490,119 guns purchased from licensed gun dealers in 2012, according to sales estimates obtained by the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

During the same period, major crimes committed with firearms dropped 5 percent to 4,378.

"This appears to be additional evidence that more guns don't necessarily lead to more crime," said Thomas R. Baker, an assistant professor at Virginia Commonwealth University's L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs who specializes in research methods and criminology theory.

95-Year-Old Vet Dead After Resisting Medical Treatment, Tased and Shot With Bean Bags by Cops

Via avordvet

john wrana and wife helen

Family members are questioning the death of a 95-year-old WWII U.S. Air Corps sergeant who killed by cops at an assisted living center last month after resisting medical treatment.

John Wrana died from injuries sustained in an incident, which was later ruled as a homicide by the medical examiner, by Park Forest police on July 27. Police were called to Victory Centre, according to the Chicago Tribune, when it was reported by faculty that he was being “combative,” resisting medical treatment to which he was being “involuntarily” committed to.

A press release from the police department emailed to the Chicago Tribune stated that Wrana was threatening staff and paramedics with his metal cane and a 2-foot shoehorn. The report states he later picked up a 12-inch knife.

The Tribune reported that police ordered the man to surrender, but his failure to do so and continued threats resulted in them using a Taser on him and then shooting him with small bean bags. Wrana dropped the knife and was taken to the hospital at this point.

Wrana was conscious when he arrived at a local hospital but died in the early morning hours. The Southtown Star reported the Cook County medical examiner’s office conducting an autopsy that found Wrana died from being shot in the stomach with the 12-gauge shotgun with bean-bag ammo.
The family now has an attorney looking into the case.

“This was a literal war hero,” attorney Nicholas Grapsas told the Southtown Star, noting that the family has not yet decided if it will file a lawsuit. “It’s outright insulting when you have such lack of respect for someone who served our country to the extent he did.”
