Neo-Abolitionist Historiography: From our 2008 Summer School, Northern Anti-Slavery Rhetoric

In some respects, the title of this lecture, “Post 1960’s Neo-Abolitionist Historiography,” is a lie.  I’m actually going to start earlier than the 1960’s, but I promise you we’re not going to lengthen it out any more than that. A lot of this is going to be a cautionary tale for us because in many respects the subtext here is: “How do we treat our enemies in history?” And we all have enemies. We just do. Let me give you an example from my family. Both my father’s and my mother’s family have been in America for quite a long time, particularly my mother’s family, but Irish families. Nevertheless, even though they had missed such things as the famine and what have you, within those families’ cultural memories was suspicion – not hatred, but certainly suspicion and distaste for the English. It just was always there. And the key thing was: “How do you deal with that? When you meet someone of English ancestry or you meet an Englishman, how do you deal with that?” And my parents would say: “Well, with charity. Do not be rude. Above all things, do not be rude. Be hospitable. And try to listen when you meet these folks.” And it was difficult. In fact, it was very difficult when my mother’s half-sister began to go out with an Englishman during the hunger strikes of the 1980’s. That became very tense and very difficult, but it can be done.

For the Irish, this is very hard. The definition of Irish Alzheimer’s is that we forget everything except our grudges. And so, when this is the case, it can be difficult. But to give you a story of how well it was done, Cecil Woodham-Smith, the English historian, wrote a wonderful book on the Irish Potato Famine called The Great Hunger. And as she was going through the secondary work, she was surprised to find Irish historians were very restrained in their criticism of the English Tory government at the time and later the English Whig government. And she said it was remarkable that they were able to see beyond the inherited prejudices and the terrible injustices that were done, to see that here had occurred a problem that in many ways was unsolvable, that had to simply be a tragedy that we live through. And often-times we have to do this. The neo-abolitionist historians do not. And as part of this subtext, we’ll talk about why they do not and what their particular perspective is and how in many ways it actually undermines some historical works that could otherwise be great historical works, but are diminished in many respects because of those prejudices that are not dealt with with kindness, understanding and hospitality.

Hungary's Orban Wins 4th Successive Term... Declares Victory over 'International Left, Soros Empire, Mainstream Media'

Hungary’s national-conservative prime minister, Viktor Orbán, has won a fourth consecutive term of office, matching Germany’s Angela Merkel — despite the establishment left, far left, and even the far right teaming up to oust him at the ballot box.

In a victory speech to supporters of his Fidesz-KDNP party on Sunday, Prime Minister Orbán hailed their triumph over the “overwhelming force” of “the left at home, the international left all around, the Brussels bureaucrats, the [George] Soros empire with all its money, the international mainstream media, and in the end, even the Ukrainian president” as proof that “Christian democratic politics, conservative civic politics, and patriotic politics [are] not the past, [but] the future.”

IMENINGITIS & MENINGITIS B

Via mind jog from Reborn's comment on 'I Lived'Brock, do you have any suspicion of where you might have contractedthe meningitis? A woman who lived next door to my sister had not been seen in a few days so a welfare check was made and she was found dead from bacterial meningitis. My sister could not find out where she contracted the meningitis. The woman was twenty-seven.

************
Bacterial meningitis is serious and can be fatal within days without prompt antibiotic treatment. Delayed treatment increases the risk of permanent brain damage or death.
***************

Although it is uncommon, meningitis B (MenB) is a serious infection. It is caused by the bacterium Neisseria meningitidis group B, which can cause an infection of the membrane that surrounds the brain and spinal cord. It can also cause septicemia, a serious infection of the bloodstream.

Although most people recover, even with appropriate treatment, up to 1 in 10 patients will die, sometimes within 24 hours after the onset of symptoms.

BlackRock president warns 'entitled generation that has never had to sacrifice' that they will soon face shock due to major shortages: 'Put on your seatbelts'

 Via Cousin John

The president of the world's largest asset management company just issued a stark warning to members of America's "entitled generation."

BlackRock co-founder and president Robert Kapito said Tuesday that the global supply chain and soaring inflation crises will soon have dramatic effects on the U.S. economy that will result in a noticeable scarcity of goods not experienced before by many younger Americans.

That scarcity, he said, will likely be a shock to the system for many who are accustomed to an abundant and comfortable lifestyle.

Belated Birthday

Crash Positions

 Via TL Davis via WRSA

Well, folks, we’re here.

Over the past decade I’ve written a few essays on the coming economic collapse of the USA.  I noted in 2013 that the on-book national debt was an estimated $16 Trillion.  The actual debt using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), which includes all off-book obligations (promises of future payments such as Social Security, government retirement accounts, Medicare A & B, et.al.) was $238 Trillion.  Today the on-book debt is $30.3 Trillion, not quite double what it was when I last wrote about this.  We can reasonably assume the total debt according to GAAP is similarly doubled, all in at $450 Trillion.

HOW does one mentally conceive of such numbers?  I’ll put it in simple terms; if you printed 450 trillion $1 bills, they would create a layer of paper covering the entire planet that’s ½” thick.

The Nation in a Vice: Joe's Mad Entourage

This nation is in a vice. Some on the inside might not feel it like those on the outside, who’re subject to the iron jaws against flesh and bone, but we’re all there. Those turning the handle, cranking it down, feel nothing. The force from immigration is no different than the force of inflation. The force of corruption is no different than the force of perversion. They all work to tighten the screw.

The interesting thing about this point in American history is that you don’t have to agree with anything, you can stay at home and mind your own business and it won’t make a difference. The monsters have all escaped and the American people are simply points targets in a bigger game.

I Lived (UPDATE at top)

Reborn:

"Meningitis

is inflammation of the meninges, the tissue that covers and protects the brain and spinal cord. It is usually caused by an infection but may be caused by cancer, medication, or another inflammatory condition. When meningitis is caused by infection, it is usually bacterial or viral. The infectious causes of meningitis are contagious and spread by fluids that contain the infectious organisms. Sneezing, coughing, kissing, or even touching contaminated objects can spread the infection."

**************

For those with mental disorders in my family (Liberals) if my illness was caused by COVID the Navy Medical Center would have mentioned this in their report. Double pneumonia was obviously caused  by  being on  the floor 36/74 hours.

**************

Double pneumonia, *meningitis, stroke = legs with swelling/damage balance portion of brain:  On floor 36/74 hours, inhaling blood, vomit with OXY @ 40% . Doctors were concerned that it might be a new version of  COVID at first.*Very rare (Fewer than 20,000 cases per year in US)

*UPDATE: One day I awoke and thought I wasn't thinking properly and that I had a doctor appointment coming in three days. I realized I had to change but wasn't sure there was enough time.  Each day I felt better and on the way to the doctor Emily told me that I wouldn't have been able to attend the appointment three days ago. I had full confidence when I entered the doctor's office and he looked surprised and said I looked amazingly well. He asked Emily twice when I had changed and she said each time two to three days.

The Naval Center will use this case as a teaching aid for their students , probably titled "The Man Who Should Have Died."  :)

The Naval Center assumed I was being cared for and were surprised that I was not, I guess because of my facial distortions.

*After two weeks in the Naval Hospital, the doctors told my five daughters that there was nothing else they could do and it could be any minute, any day. Took 1 1/2 years to almost fully recover.

One of many.

I imagine he thought DOA.
