U.S. Army officer becomes first openly gay general

Via Carl

Tammy Smith has become the first openly gay officer to be promoted to the ranks of Brigadier General in the U.S. Army.

Smith's promotion took place on Friday in a private ceremony at the Women’s Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery. She received her stars from wife, Tracey Hepner, the first time her longtime partner was officially recognized as her significant other at a military gathering.

Smith is assigned as deputy chief in the Army Reserve Office of the Chief in Washington, D.C.

  1. Ah, but don't forget the married 43-yr-old Christian father Navy LTCMDR who cheated on his wife with a 23-yr-old woman, got her pregnant, and then wrote her a fake "he died" email...

He just got relieved of his command for "lack of confidence."

BG Smith, on the other hand, has been with the same partner for about 20 years, and judging from her awards (LM; MSM; BS; Airborne; Rigger; Combat), she's a damn good officer.

Me? I'd gladly serve under a lesbian with integrity than a straight married Christian without it...

  3. Idahobob: "disgusting"? To you, perhaps. I'm glad you aren't the person in charge of deciding who gets civil rights and who doesn't...

Otherwise, this highly-decorated, very competent officer might have left military service and we might have been stuck with an adulterous Christian.

Would that be more acceptable to you?

  4. Highly decorated? She has a combat action badge, that doesn't mean she actually participated in armed combat.

This politically correct, social engineering of our military has got to stop!

    It is indeed disgusting!

  5. My friend, who recently retired from the Pentagon as a Colonel, whose son attends VMI, whose father was a General in WWII, did so explicitly because of the PC in the Army which promoted incompetent minorities ahead of competent non-minorities. He is disgusted with today's armed services. I would not encourage someone to enlist today, in fact quite the opposite. We are but poor excuses for the Boys of 76' and 61' and they would be ashamed of us.

  6. Civil rights??

Since when is a choice of sexual preference a civil right?

You really need to polish up your glass navel so you can see reality, Mr. Stedham, or is that Ms?

  7. Bob nails it.

I've tried to see things from their point of view, but try as I might there's just no way I can get my head that far up my @$$!

  8. PS: There's no "civil rights" violation in marriage either.

They can marry someone of the opposite sex just like everyone else. No discrimination there whatsoever!
