Following the acquittal Thursday of Arizona police officer Philip Brailsford in the shooting death of 26-year-old Daniel Shaver, who died during an altercation at a hotel with the cops last year, some claimed that the justice system had failed to deliver justice.
Their underlying argument was that there had been no legitimate reason for Brailsford to open fire on Shaver, who reportedly died instantly. But others disagree.
Writing for the Washington Examiner, commentator Tom Rogan first brought attention to the context of the shooting, i.e., why the cops had even been on Shaver’s case to begin with.

Well, that settles it.
ReplyDeleteJustifiable. Poor tacticool puss was protecting himself and team!
Not!
I say BS.
From comment at Conservative Trib link:
"Also, a language anylizer would have an interestring take on this. Cop says if the guy makes a mistake he'll probably not survive, while screaming enough complications as to ensure the mistake. He was planning on killing the guy early on in the video".
I agree with the comment.
Cop says if the guy makes a mistake he'll probably not survive, while screaming enough complications as to ensure the mistake.
DeleteWell said.
When the suspect reached behind his back, that's all it took.
ReplyDeleteWe are living in an uncivilized society where the predictable
has becoming unpredictable.
The guy should have said something, he knew the risks. The
cop wasn't fooling around. Most unfortunate.
The suspect was under the influence of alcohol at the time, also.
DeleteI was on my way to work one nite and was pulled over for
ReplyDeletespeeding. This is in Asheville before it had been totally
invaded. I was in a hurry to be on time for work so I get
out of my car to ask the cop to write me a ticket hurriedly.
He was sitting in his car; he opened the car door and hid
behind it with his gun drawn. If I had walked a couple steps
toward him, he would have shot me. This is how bad things
have become. This was the early 2000's - 2002. They
obviously know something I don't know. And I was wearing a
nursing uniform.
Sad, but move to the country! :)
DeleteI do live way out in the country and had to drive
Deleteforty miles one way to get to work. No place to
work deep in the country.
I see.
DeleteBottom line, cops these days are a bunch of trigger happy pussies.
ReplyDeleteRemember this - this was national news for several days.
ReplyDeleteThe perpetrators are sadistic savages and only get probation.

DeleteDoes citizenship and the rights bestowed by God and codified the Constitution evaporate because some lunatic with a badge decides a lone barefoot guy in a T-shirt with shorts is an imediate threat to the survival of 3 heavily armed officers wearing body armor? Is failure to following the confusing instructions of heavily armed government agents, who are aiming their assault weapons at you, threating to kill you, while screaming at you now mean they can self anointed themselves judge jury and executioner?
ReplyDeleteI can find no words to describe the gross abuses of government power and the wanton denial of basic human rights and dignity. May justice be done upon the thug in blue who elected to murder this poor man and then declared he would do it all again.
Whatever happens to the jurors in this case is deserved as well.
Y'all have a nice day....if you can live long enough to enjoy it.
May justice be done upon the thug in blue who elected to murder this poor man and then declared he would do it all again.
DeleteSomeone commented that he went to the PI afterwards, but I didn't find anything.
Basic rules for life:
ReplyDelete1. Don't drink to excess. Nothing good happens when you do, and plenty bad can happen and often does.
2. Don't point guns, pellet or otherwise out hotel room windows or anywhere anyone can see you.
3. When the cops come talk to you, obey and don't reach for your waistband. Of course if you disobeyed rule #1 that basically makes you incapable of following orders.
It's a terribly sad event, but the suspect messed up. Officer didn't murder him. How many videos have we seen on this site where the readers defended the office because the suspect put his hands where the officer couldn't see them? This guy had a wife and kids, and he died. That's really sad. It doesn't make his case any different.
if you disobeyed rule #1 that basically makes you incapable of following orders.
DeleteGood point.
My two cents is that the deputy gave a bunch of contradictory and/or easily misinterpreted instructions. Did anyone else cath the line about putting his left foot over his right when he was laying down? That wording is much harder to process under stress than "cross your legs". I lean towards agreeing with those who say the commands were overly complicated. And that could be construed as being intentional on the officer's part. And I'd imagine having multiple rifles pointed at you could stress anyone to the point of making a misintended movement or freeze to the point of "non-compliance".
ReplyDeleteThanks and going to the PI is not a smart thing to do if you are worried about payback, in fact it might be the worst. $1K
