Blast at Fort Bragg Injures Ten

"I am not among those who fear the people. They, and not the rich, are our dependence for continued freedom. And to preserve their independence, we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty, or profusion and servitude."
--Thomas Jefferson

Eight Marines from Camp Lejeune and two Sailors were injured in an explosion during a live fire training exercise at Fort Bragg Monday night.

Staff Sgt. Jayson Price, spokesman for the II Marine Expeditionary Force at Lejeune, said the explosion happened about 8 p.m. when members of the 10th Marine Regiment were firing a 155mm howitzer. The regiment is at Fort Bragg for annual spring artillery training called Rolling Thunder, which typically involves loud explosions.

The military has not released the names of the injured nor said how badly they were hurt.
