*I'm A Good Old Rebel

Here is a picture of my Great Grandfather, William Fredrick Pippin. (Pippen/Pippin)

William Fredrick was born in Pitt County, N.C., where he resided as a farmer, prior to enlisting in Pitt County at age 22 on August 7, 1861 for the Civil war, with 'Company G, 8th Regiment of the North Carolina State Troops'. He served over three years and 3 months, while being captured at least twice and receiving three wounds. He was first captured at Roanoke Island on February 8, 1862 and paroled at Elizabeth City on February 21, 1862. He was exchanged during a prisoner exchange in August, 1862. He was present or accounted for until captured at Fort Harrison, Virginia, September 30, 1864. He was confined at **Point Lookout, Maryland, until paroled and transferred to Venus Point, Savannah River, Georgia, where he was received November 15, 1864, for exchange. He served the North Carolina Confederacy with Distinguished Service. He returned back home to his father's home in Pitt county sometime after the 15 Nov 1864.

The following is recorded in his personal Family Bible: "W.F. Pippin enlisted Aug 7, 1861 in Pitt County, N.C. Surrendered in May 1864. Member Slingman Brigade & North Carolina State Troops

He applied for a military pension due to his injuries received during the war and was approved on the 2nd try.
