61% Favor Immigration Checks On Traffic Stops

Most voters continue to support immigration status checks on routine traffic stops and favor strict sanctions on employers who give illegal immigrants jobs.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 61% of Likely Voters agree that if a police officer pulls someone over for a traffic violation, the officer should automatically check to see if that person is in the country legally. Thirty percent (30%) disagree. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

  1. I have run into a couple license check points at fairly busy interstate exit ramps on weekends here in Western NC. On each occasion I did notice that I like many others were waved through by simply holding up my valid license and insurance card for the officer to see and those pulled over were of Hispanic descent. Profiling? Maybe or perhaps just a coincidence as to the number of people without proper license or insurance information. Never thought to ask the officer at the time....
