This is just a VERY basic phone - not even an LCD screen. Still, seems a good idea for situations like main phone gets broken...
BUT...
$50?
NUTS!
I bought a "go phone" for $10 on clearance. Add to this a radio-shack battery-extender for ~$20, plus the "tip" for the extender (<$10) and we're at the $50 mark, but I have a limited but decent pocket-sized flip-phone that will give me much more than 10 hours from *TWO* double-A's....
I dunno... If the price-point was ~$20 I'd be all over it - but $50 is NUTS!
Or just use the 15-year Lithiums if you're seriously trying to make it last 15 years...
In reality, the little 2-AA unit is extremely useful - I keep one in my "bag" all the time with a USB tip on it - thus I can use it to extend/charge everything from my BT headset, phone, iPod, even my tablet though it really doesn't give much life there...
Here's the unit I'm talking about: http://www.igo.com/powerxtender-charger/invt/ps002640004/ -- actually it comes with "one free device tip" -- just get the usb "female" so you can use the cable that came with your phone (or other device)!
Now you've got the $10 "go phone" and the battery-backup for $25.99 and $24.01 to spend on Lithium batteries!
OR - again, better yet - just do as I did and buy the rechargable NiMH AAs! They don't give as much power as the disposable lithiums, but... I can charge them from my car, house or a little solar unit I bought, or off USB from my PC/LT...
Meh...
ReplyDeleteThe REAL deal is 10 hours talk-time from one AA!

True, as you can always rotate your batteries.
