I carry a setup I can't represent strongly enough: a Kel-tec Sub2k folding carbine in 40-cal and a matching pistol, along with a load of 30+-round mags that will fit either weapon.
The carbines come in 9mm or 40, and in models that will accept Glock, Sig and other pistols' magazines. You must order the model you wish - they're not interchangeable!
All this - including holster, belt, mag-pouches, sling, and so-on fits easily in a small tool-box in the trunk of any car. I use a cheap luggage-lock to lock the box so as to keep any nosy folk from opening it without a warrant!
With this little carbine I have no problem smacking my range's 200-yard gong with boring regularity, and the ballistics of a .40 out of a 16" Bbl are impressive, even at that range.
Folded, the carbine is only 16" long and (properly slung) can easily be concealed under most jackets yet be put into action in about one second. It really doesn't get any better!
