Virginia Flagger Update 5/16/2012

May has been another busy month for the Va Flaggers. Thursday, May 3rd, we had 13 Flaggers on the Boulevard, Saturday, May 5th brought out 8 Flaggers, and Thursday, May 10th saw 15 Flaggers, who were treated to Confederate sunglasses and ink pens, courtesy of our friends at Ruffin Flag Co.! :) Saturday, May 12th was a bit slow as far as conversations go, with not much foot traffic on the sidewalk, but ended with a bang when a visit from the Richmond Police Dept. informed us of a "No Trespassing with Flags" order from the UDC.

Our flagging efforts continue at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. We are flagging every Saturday, and one weeknight each week. Please contact us if you are interested in joining in these efforts.

We will be flagging the VMFA Thursday this week, May 17th, 4:00 p.m. - Dusk and Saturday , May 19th, 9 a.m. -1 p.m.

After flagging Saturday, we will be heading over to Gaines Mill to attend the dedication of the Texas monument on the Gaines Mill Battlefield. More information here: http://www.saverichmondbattlefields.org/events.htm

On Memorial Day, we will head up to Fredericksburg in the morning to join the newly formed Fredericksburg Flaggers as they line the streets with Confederate flags on the route of the "Memorial Day Procession", which will NOT include remembering our Confederate dead...

That afternoon, the Va Flaggers will be presenting a wreath at the Annual Confederate Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m., Hugenot Springs Confederate Cemetery, Powhatan County, just off Route 60 on Hugenot Springs Road.

Saturday, June 2nd will be a big day for the Va Flaggers. We will kick it off at 9:00 a.m. by attending the Ceremony for President Jeff Davis' 204th birthday anniversary at 9:00 a.m., Hollywood Cemetery. The Va Flaggers will be presenting a wreath during the service. Immediately following the service, we are asking/inviting ALL Confederates to join us on the Boulevard for a Mass Flagging of the VMFA. We hope to be line the sidewalk with folks who are willing to forward the colors in honor of President Davis, and in protest of the VMFA and their refusal to return the Confederate Battle Flags to the Confederate Memorial Chapel.

We are excited to share that in addition to the new Fredericksburg division of the Va Flaggers, Flagging groups are being formed all across the South! Groups have formed in Texas, Florida and Tennessee over the past few weeks and we are working with them to get on the street and Flagging! If you are interested in joining them, or flagging in your neck of the woods, give us a shout and we will help get you on the sidewalk and forwarding the colors!

Our calendar is filling up fast and I'm sure yours is, too. Flagging is not ALWAYS about protesting. Flaggers also carry our flags for education, and to honor our ancestors and their memory. Is there a Confederate event planned in your area? Carry your flag! It will give you an opportunity to talk to people about your flag and what we are all about, hand out literature to those who may be interested in becoming a Flagger, and forward the colors in a friendly venue. Flaggers also carry flags at memorial services, honoring our gallant dead and adding to the Confederate presence, in reverent homage.
