Written and performed by David Norris - a true story of a Confederate soldier who walked home at the war's end from Georgia to South Hampton County, VA. in 1865.
After the Battle of Bentonville, and the surrender of General Joseph Eggleston Johnston to General William Tecumseh Sherman, my biological great great great grandfather, Corporal Jonathan Trueblood, North Carolina Seventh Regiment, Confederate Senior Reserves, walked from North Carolina to Randolph County, Indiana to be reunited with his son, my biological great great grandfather, William W. Trueblood, who had served with the Union Army in Company F, Seventeenth Indiana Mounted Infantry.
This is a beautiful song, a great story and one I am sure was more common than not. And John Sir, I applaud you for sharing the story of your ancestor as well..
