  1. Interesting article. Also interesting that the rifles appear to be M16A1s, with the exception of the short barreled version there in the front. A1 upper with a short barrel? Weird. And old. :)

    1. Guess basic gets the leftovers. I know when I went through Basic at Fort Bragg in 1966 all we had were M-14s, but got to shoot one mag out of a M-16 on full auto with zero instruction. Just step up and pull the trigger.

  2. Yep. Them's some old rifles. A1s and A2s it looks like to me, with the old style sights on them that you had to adjust with round or a punch. Rust on the front sight assembly and dust covers too. Unsat! Note how the finish is worn off the high parts of the aluminum.

    Also, those are just baby-faced kids.

      I imagine they will fight to the death if invaded, but they didn't seem very impressive for having completed basic. Plus the commands, responses to commands and uniform appearance were strange to me.
