Senate Democrats, joined by 16 Republicans, were able to overcome an attempted filibuster by GOP senators opposed to the current bill. Those senators could still slow-walk the debate, but the Senate will eventually begin votes on amendments -- one of which is considered crucial to winning support for a final vote.
The White House called Thursday's tally an "important" but "early milestone," as both sides of the issue prepare for a grueling debate -- one that is being waged in Washington and on the airwaves.
The amendment likely to be at the front of the line is one from Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Pat Toomey, R-Pa., which would scale back the call for universal background checks. The plan would expand checks to gun-show and Internet sales, but exempt certain personal transactions.

"An important, but early milestone"..... because the endgame is the total and complete confiscation of all privately owned firearms!
ReplyDeleteConstitution and Bill of Rights be DAMNED!!
According to the vepp, it's a "new americka"... the 2nd amendment was only about "hunting" anyway!
"A Republic if you can keep it"....

I PERSONALLY know Richard Burr and worked for him during his first campaign for US House of Representatives. I will say this, Richard Burr is ABSOLUTELY no conservative by our standards. He is and has ALWAYS been a RINO. I would have been surprised if he had voted differently. The reason I worked for him only during his first campaign is because I learned what he truly was after he was elected the first time. And yes, I can tell you some interesting personal stories about him and his family from that time period. I have NO use whatsoever for Richard Burr, no more so than I do Hagen or most any other Democrat/Marxist. The only thing I wished for the Burr family was that years ago, Aaron Burr had shot Alexander Hamilton before he had the chance to sway the votes for adopting the US Constitution or at least before swaying George Washington to allow the first Federal Reserve System of the US.

DeleteThanks and indeed.
Do understand this about my thoughts. I learned from Richard Burr that it matters NOT how much you or people contact your Federal Reps about issues, they are gonna vote and do as they please regardless to how strong your arguments and assertions are. I carried Burr to the ropes more than once to only be told it was his(my as in his) choice, and that he was gonna vote as he saw fit. (This is as frank straight forward as you will hear from anyone, and I was Personally told this by Richard himself on a couple of occasions.) I learned it mattered not how much you protested or how right you were, they were gonna do as they wanted. That is when I quit voting in the federal elections. But also know Richard Burr, as soon as he was elected, he fired ALL his conservative staffers and hired liberal staffers to replace them. I can give specific accounts if need be. The point being, from this I learned the Federal politicians were stacking the deck, so-to-speak, and that true conservatives were being shut out of politics in the 90s. (It was happening before this, but not at the same rate as happened in the 90s.) I saw no future in trying to address our political concerns through the Federal end. Therefore I simply quit voting in the Federal elections. Time has borne me out to be true.
ReplyDeleteFor any of you wanting to take this a step further I can say similar things about Jesse Helms, though most all conservatives thought Helms was a real conservative. In reality he was also a 5th column and I have several instances where I can show this to be true! Jesse Helms was not our friend either! (Study that if you want to really learn something!)

Thanks and this quote of his has been a favorite.

--NC Senator Jesse Helms 1959
Don't know if you remember the Senate debate on funding the UN in the early 90s or not, but Helms was known as being a BIG anti-UN person. Being Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee a vote is needed to clear the US for payment for UN payment dues which were already overdue. Helms hee-haws claiming he is not gonna allow the US to support the UN. Yet quietly and without fanfare he allows the vote to come to his table, not protesting its' possible passage. It does pass becoming law, paying the us dues to the UN. And not a peep from Senator NO.
DeleteOr, the time is 1988 and the Southern Baptist Convention which is being held in Charlotte, NC. A motion has been introduced to the floor of the SBC that denies any Masonic member from having voting rights at any SBC. A phone call is placed to Sen Helms office in DC. Next night Sen Helms shows up at the SBC and makes a speech. But this is no ordinary speech. Helms is quiet frank and to the point. If the SBC votes to ban Masonic from having voting rights, Helms claims he will give the Southern Baptists no more support and will see to it that others boycott the Southern Baptists. The end result is the motion is soundly defeated. (I have a tape of this somewhere if pushed to provide evidence.) I can also give other examples.

BTW-- I've been in Sen Helms Senate office more than a few times also!
