The House late Wednesday voted to give states the authority to conduct drug testing on people applying for food stamps under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
By voice vote, members approved the idea as an amendment to the farm bill. The amendment was proposed by Rep. Richard Hudson (R-N.C.). Hudson said the proposal would help ensure SNAP benefits go to needy families and children.
"If adopted, this amendment would join a list of good-government reforms contained in the farm bill to save taxpayer money and ensure integrity and accountability within our nutrition system," Hudson said.

yes it sounds snazzy to require those drug tests after all, you have to take them at work right?
ReplyDeleteJust remember those that approve of this are forcing those individuals to endure a violation on their 4th Amendment right based on nothing more than the fact that they accepted help. No probable cause or warrant signed by a judge. How Does accepting SNAP all of a sudden make someone come under suspicion of using illegal drug?
We complain about illegal searches happening to us on the side of the road, or confiscations of our weapons based on some illegal search, but we support such tactics on those using food stamps, based solely on that fact along?
I have to take random drug tests 2 or 3 times a year where I work. So, it won`t hurt those sponging off my tax dollars to take one once a year. If they don`t like it then don`t accept the freebies my money helps provide & get a job like the rest of us.
