  1. I drove a '63 Comet S-22 Convertible with a 260 through high school. That sure was a fun car.

    1. Nice motor. I had the 289 Hi-Po in '65. Too bad we both don't still have them. :)

    2. My Comet sure did go fast, plenty of get up and go at any speed... even though she only had two gears! 1st ranged from 0-55mph, 2nd ranged from 10-100mph

    3. Auto, I guess? Mine was a 4 speed and first was the best, shifting to 2nd at 60, then to third at 90 and away we go. :)

    4. Yup, 2-speed Ford-O-Matic Auto. She has a really nice 3-speed in her now though.

Pops still has her in the garage, and there's been talk of putting her up for sale.

  2. The neigborhood gear guys (including me) salivated at the one boy's brother who had a Cyclone. That's all we talked about... girls, eah- cars yeah baby. A guy who worked part time at my uncle's Gulf station and his brothers always had a H.P. Ford stuff. The one that was the burn-out king was the '70 Torino 428 Cobra Jet... lol. We grew up in a great time in the Muscle car era: 442's, 2+2's, Judges, Goats, Camaros, Stangs, Super Bees, Rolling Rock Ponies, Cruising, drag racing et al. Great memories... too bad for me I don't have the ones I had now. Thanks for jarring the memories, Brock. Makes me realize just how old a goat I am...

    1. We have only begun, my good man! :) I had a '69 Torino 390 with 428 heads and four speed. Black inside and out. This was around '79/'80? and I paid $1,200 for it in perfect condition. Pulled a 28 foot trailer across the states and coming down off the top of the Rocky Mountains, it started to smoke. By the time I got to Virginia it was going though a quart of oil in 3/4ths of a tank.:) The power was still the same though. Got a new motor a the Marshall Motor Company in Marshall where I grew up which started in 1915.

    2. Those were great big block engines... My cousin crammed modified 460 engines into stangs. holy moly top end... spark plugs were a bitch to change in those 67-68 Mustangs and Cougars with the big blocks in them. I think that is why my hands are shot today... lol

:) Didn't notice them at the PATCON.

  3. Growing up, we had a mean old lady across the street who chased a buddy with a running push lawn mower after he ran into her yard to retrieve a ball.

We told my dad about it when he got home from work, and he confronted her about chasing my friend with a lawn mower.

As Dad and the witch discussed matters, she waved a pair of hedge clippers in my dad's face.

To this day I don't know how he maintained his composure and didn't insert those clippers up her ass.

Anyhoo...the old whore had a pale yellow Comet similar to the above with a 289. She drove it maybe once a week, and it was in mint condition.

I thought a time or two that maybe I should make nice with her and then maybe she would will me her ride when she croaked...but...no.

I didn't want the car THAT fuckin' bad! I gots standards!

I hated that bitch with a white hot passion. She was the type of old bat who would never answer the door at Halloween or when we and the rest of the neighborhood kids went Christmas caroling...a real bitter and hateful old hag who hated kids....but I dug her ride.

    Fuck her anyways.

    3. :) It was common practice in our metropolis of 600, Marshall Virginia, but we only had one culprit who was deserving of such. You would think he would have learned after the first year. :)
