Artist Simon Menner recently shared with Vice his Project Camouflage, part of which he spent time with the German Army and its snipers. In the photos, the highly trained marksman blend in damn-near perfectly with their surroundings.

“(The snipers) dig little holes — or “nests,” as they call them — and hang out there for a bit before popping up and putting a bullet through someone’s skull from more than a mile away,” Menner writes.

While the soldiers have a remarkable ability to blend into their environment, the trick, as Menner suggests, is to try to “spot the barrel of a gun” in the what would otherwise be simple landscape shots.

Good luck!
