Instead of preventing crime and searching for criminals Kentucky is beginning an arbitrary program of looking out for people that may be eating while they drive. This clear violation of the 4th Amendment will also include checkpoints targeting “distracted drivers,” despite the fact that there is no ban on eating and driving in Kentucky.

A little FYI any police officer in the Commonwealth can pull over any person at any time for any reason or for no reason at all. They do it all the time now! They use DUI checkpoints at will, and that is what the "official" excuse will be for these. IMO; They are looking for a court challenge to the "distracted driving" sweep in order to overturn the 2005 KSC ruling that outlawed dragnet checkpoints that had become a fixture on Ky. roadways in the 90's.(they had gone so far as to set up booths on some roads) How much you wanna' bet that the TSA starts manning the "toll booths" the feds want on every interstate highway ,and that this is just a "training program" to make us willing cooperate. ---Ray

ReplyDeleteYup.
DeleteAlmost every road check you go through is really for some reason other than the one
ReplyDeleteofficially stated by the agency. It's usually an excuse to stop a particular person or group of people that they don't have probable cause to stop. Like the patrons of a local bar or a drug dealer they expect to be driving through the area.
May well be.
