US travellers set for EU biometric dragnet

Via Jonathan

US citizens and other non-EU nationals who enter Europe will be asked to have their faces image-captured and fingerprints scanned upon arrival at a half-dozen major airports.

The biometric dragnet is part of a pilot test of the EU’s so-called ‘smart borders’ package. Passengers can refuse to give the data for now but there are plans to eventually make it obligatory.

  1. I wasn't planning on flying their any time soon, but this seals the deal. Trouble is, I think we're all becoming 'photographed' via the police unit traffic cameras here in the U.S. Connecting a face with a vehicle license plate tells them the address. Connect the address with Fed Ex / UPS / USPS package receipts and you get a pretty good 'list to start from.

Already being asked to submit your children for photography and fingerprints (Just in case they are kidnapped!) for the permanent file. Some credit cards and computers use a 'facial recognition' as the password for use.

I tell you - pictures are becoming all the rage . . .

  2. So what is the point of having a "smart border", when here in the FUSA we still have a wide open border. With a FedGov that for decades refuses to take the "dumb" measures to close it (that be increased border patols with walls and fences). In addition the same PTB, continue to reward those who come here ILLEAGALLY with incentives they deny to their own citizens.
As I see it, the real reason for this is as a means to control the citizens, the PTB deem as political enemies. It is all about control of the public.
