Fiddlesticks,:) I bet there are 100 million more.

There are an estimated 265 million privately owned guns in America — and apparently, half of those guns are owned by just 3 percent of America's adult citizens.

The Guardian and The Trace obtained the unpublished results of a survey on gun ownership from Harvard and Northeastern universities.

The Census Bureau estimates there are about 247 million adults in the U.S -- which means according to the survey's results, 7.7 million Americans own an average of about 17 guns each.

  1. I am going to wager anything done by Harvard, Northeastern or AOL is not right at all.

I bet 3/5 of all American's or MORE own several pieces each.

  3. For the record, The 300 Million number, is the number of firearms of all kinds sold and checked through the NICS system since 1995. The government makes no attempt to count the numbers sold before 1995 or weapons built from "kits". The SMALLEST conservative number of working firearms in America is 500 million to 900 million sold since 1900. NO ONE has the slightest idea how many working firearms are in America or who has them. NO ONE has the slightest idea how many "black market" home built semi and FULL auto firearms are in America. This is panic by the anti's. They are trying to play this as "bloodless confiscation". Its the only way left (pardon the pun)---Ray

  6. To say that 3% own 50% is a meaningless number. It is intended to imply that gun ownership is rare, when in fact it is common and growing. That other 50% can cover a LOT of the population.
