President-elect Donald Trump has tapped Peter Navarro, an economic adviser to his campaign, to lead a newly formed White House National Trade Council.
Trump said in a transition release:
“I read one of Peter’s books on America’s trade problems years ago and was impressed by the clarity of his arguments and thoroughness of his research… He has presciently documented the harms inflicted by globalism on American workers and laid out a path forward to restore our middle class. He will fulfill an essential role in my administration as a trade adviser.”
One of Trump’s biggest campaigning points during the election was: We Are Losing To China. We’re Not Going To Lose Anymore.

  1. While I agree with China somewhat that Trump ought to be ready to negotiate with China, I'm very glad he's said to be considering trade tariffs now.

I kinda think we should encourage peace in the Pacific. I don't see that as appeasement. I think what stokes an angry China is Chinese fear that the US will meddle or even threaten China. So, if we just make it clear how we absolutely will not interfere with any Chinese domestic matters, then they'll mind their own affairs.

How to approach Taiwan, I dunno. I would like for there to be peace and trade is all I can say. S. Korea and Japan both have claims in the Pacific that conflict with China and Russia. I rather prefer Korea and Japan to have their claims met, because it allows them to achieve greater self-sufficiency. Deep sea mining might one day become significant, for example.

The US shouldn't have bases anywhere in Japan or Korea. We should ask that China help remove N Korea's leadership in exchange for our removal of our bases and troops.

That's just how I see things anyway. War in that region would be a nightmare. China especially has a very deep history that could be lost in war, as it's likely already being lost to rapid development.
