In 1976 I flew into Key West on a DC-3. Took military air down to Miami, then the commercial flight to Key West, carrying KW-7 Orestes crypto cards to the Naval Communications Station there. Never got to actually pilot a C-47 but sure enjoyed the ride.

I have a vague recollection that the first time they appeared they were known as 'Puff the Magic Dragon' and term Spooky came along later.
ReplyDeleteI could be wrong, of course, age does weary and the years condemn.
Couldn't ask for much more than a Spooky and a Skyraider above your location.
DeleteStateside I flew on a DC-3 operated by Piedmont airlines in the late 60's. They were about the last airline to fly them in scheduled service.
