The Appalachian way of life has been wiped out by outsiders and development. Use to be one could go into Appalachian mtns. in Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky and see a totally different culture. They lived by a separate set of rules. Now, all gone. You see ugly modern homes sitting on hilltops. Towns transformed. They are strangers in their own land. Appalachian is now a word for tourists. If the masses had not invaded, Popcorn would still be doing his thing.
I have a old friend from East Tn...His dad was a moonshiner ... they would catch him sentence him and lock him up...then let him out cause he had the best shine...his peach brandy was 5 star
