On Friday, The Washington Post ran what could easily rank as the single looniest op-d they’ve ever run: a piece from Victoria Bissell Brown, retired history professor at Grinnell College, arguing that men are incapable of being good, even if they oppose sexism. Men are, by nature, vile and terrible, and can’t fix anything by listening to women – instead, they must change from within. Sadly, though, they’re not capable of such change, which begs the question: what the hell are men supposed to do, aside from die?
Brown begins by talking about screaming at her husband. Really.

My advice to her husband/slave: Get the important things that you own into a storage unit. Get your money assets out of joint accounts. Sell what you can. Take a few months to get your stuff together than leave. You will not regret it.

The sooner this poor, demented old bat is sectioned and securely locked away the better the better for everybody. As for the 'husband' I despair, and haven't got any idea how a sentient human being could fall so far into an abyss of abject humiliation. As for the Washington Post I suspect it is just sinking deeper into the moral and intellectual swamp of its own irrelevance…and not before time.
