In 1970, when I was a soldier in the United States Army stationed in Saigon as a Specialist Four, E-4, Field Radio Relay and Carrier Equipment Repairman (MOS 31L20) at the Phu Lam Signal Battalion of the 1st Signal Brigade, I would go downtown each Sunday morning and each Wednesday night to attend services and activities of the Saigon Branch of The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints, where I used my Kodak Instamatic camera to photograph the President of the Relief Society, as she was busy translating the BOOK OF MORMON and the TESTIMONY OF JOSEPH SMITH from the English language into the Vietnamese language.
She is a descendant of the Royal Family of Viet Nam.
After the war, as a civilian, I joined with a group of other American Latter-day Saint veterans of the Viet Nam War to assist Vietnamese Latter-day Saints who had been unable to get out when Saigon fell to the Communists.
One of the Church members we were able to eventually rescue and bring to the United States of America, by way of Canada, was that President of the Relief Society in the Saigon Branch.
