The 12 Republican senators who voted quite meaninglessly last week to prevent construction of the border wall accomplished nothing other than proving that they, like the Democrats, do not actually want to secure the southern border. The vote does nothing to end the national emergency declaration by President Trump, just as it does nothing to address the undeniable crisis on our southern border that made it necessary. The president simply vetoed the bill as everyone had expected he would.
The national emergency remains in effect, and the wall is still being built. So why would these 12 Republicans publicly break with the president and sign on to the resolution from Nancy Pelosi, despite professing to support border security? The senators responsible for this toothless political stunt have tried to frame their actions as an attempt to rein in executive power and respect the Constitution, but a closer look reveals that is nonsense.

IF they are opposing Trump's emergency declaration for Constitutional reasons, then as I wrote my Tennessee Senator, Lamar Alexander, I will expect him and the others to support and sponsor REPEAL of the 1976 National Emergencies Act. Trump is using it for a definite Constitutional reason and I would that he would cite Article IV, Section 4 repeatedly that it is to "protect each of them (the States) against Invasion." Otherwise, I think the 1976 law allows a President to declare draconian martial law which is NOT authorized! In the same Article IV, Section 4, only a Governor or State Legislature may declare martial law for certain purposes and ask for Federal assistance. So, REPEAL that law!! --Ron W

OOH, I can admire people who believe they are adhering to the Constitution (as if the Left cares). But... they're still laboring under the assumption we face an honorable foe. This is a bar brawl for all the marbles. If the Left gets another 10+ million illegals in, and grants amnesty to them plus the ones already here, there will never be another "R" President. EVER.
