Best States for Gun Owners (2018)

Guns & Ammo editors have been evaluating the gun laws of each state for the past six years and, in each of those articles, most states moved steadily in a pro-gun direction. This year, thanks in large part due to the media swirling around the mass shootings in Las Vegas and Parkland, we saw things begin to shift in the opposite direction. Many elected officials who ran on a “pro-gun” platform grew weak-kneed when it came to going on the record in support of those very same rights. Traditionally firearm-friendly states such as Vermont and Florida saw the passage of significant anti-gun legislation, almost overnight. How much have things really changed in the wake of this newest wave of anti-gun sentiment? We will do our best to quantify that.

  1. Brock, I can't read the article at Guns & Ammo. I keep getting a "Forbidden 403" message at a redirect. I don't know if it is a google message or a local internet or ISP provider. I plan on finding out, that is censorship at it's worse and it pisses me off!

It's the first weekend in October and there isn't a schedule as of now but should be similar to ones before which you can see at the top of the blog.

  3. I don't know where G&A gets its information, but PA does have a preemption law on the books. It's in our state's constitution. Someone at the magazine needs to be a bit more diligent in their research.......

    1. Though they came close to passing a preemption bill to solve those issues late in 2017, the bill never made it over the finish line.

      This is all I see.

    2. Nope, we already have preemption. Those bills were for other issues.........

    3. PREEMPTION STATUTE
      Pennsylvania law provides that:

“[n]o county, municipality or township may in any manner regulate the lawful ownership, possession, transfer or transportation of firearms, ammunition or ammunition components when carried or transported for purposes not prohibited by the laws of this Commonwealth.”

  4. GA slipped to #10. The zero tolerance for no guns, knives, or weapons on school properties by staff needs to be addressed as yard tools in the back of a truck gets people fired every year.

      That is really idiotic.

  5. It's frustrating here in Tennessee with our Republican super majority Legislature and Governor. IF they obeyed the wording in plain English of our State Constitution Declaration of Rights, you know, in which the citizens of our State DECLARE OUR RIGHTS, then Tennessee, instead of being #11, would be the number one State for the basic right of armed self defense! --Ron W

    2. All I ask is for my elected officials working UNDER my delegated powers is to obey their oath of office and the plain wording of their Constitutional job description as I had to do and did for 45 years as an employee. My failure to do so would result maybe with a reprimand and then prompt dismissal if I didn't obey! Same needs to be applied! --Ron W
