I grew up on a farm starting in 1951 and am very familiar with the threshing machines and finally the New Holland 68 baler. You definitely earned your keep in those years.
Yes,the day hands on my father's farms got either 5 or 6 dollars a day. The tenants got a house, garden area, some pork and beef each year along with $4 a day. I got $6 and was teased about that as I was only worth $5 but got $6 because I was the owner's son. :)
